The Settings app icon on your iPhone showing a notification badge for no reason? This is a common problem on iPhone and iPad devices. Restarting the phone or opening the Settings app doesn’t fix the issue.

The notification badge that is not going away is most likely coming from the iCloud Backup option, either it’s not able to take a backup because of low storage in iCloud Drive or for some other reason. To fix the problem we’ll first try to turn off iCloud Backup on your device, if that doesn’t work then you may have to sign out your Apple ID from the device.

Turn off iCloud Backup

  1. Go to Settings and tap on your Name (Apple ID account).
  2. Select iCloud from the Apple ID screen.
  3. Scroll down a bit and select iCloud Backup.
  4. Turn off the toggle for iCloud Backup. When asked for confirmation, tap OK.

Once you’ve turned off iCloud Backup, go back to device’ home screen, the notification badge from the Settings icon should disappear. If not, try a restarting the phone.

Sign out of your iPhone

If turning off iCloud Backup doesn’t help, you got to sign out your Apple ID from your iOS device.

  1. Go to Settings and tap on your Name (Apple ID account).
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Sign Out.
  3. You’ll be asked for your Apple ID Password to turn off the Find My iPhone service. Enter the password and tap Turn Off.
  4. Follow the rest of the sign-out process as shown on your device’ screen.
  5. After signing out, restart your iPhone. You might still see a notification badge on Settings icon after the restart. That’s okay.
  6. Open Settings and Sign in back with your Apple ID.
  7. Once you’ve signed in, go to the main screen of Settings. You’ll see an iPhone Not Backed Up notification. Do what you have to do to get rid of it.

Once you’ve cleared the iPhone Not Backed Up notification in Settings, the notification badge from the app icon should go away.

Cheers!
