Apple Music listeners on Windows PCs can now experience Dolby Atmos spatial audio and lossless quality tracks, as the official app has been updated with these long-awaited features. The update brings the Windows version closer to parity with its macOS counterpart, finally adding premium audio options that were previously missing.

Dolby Atmos provides an immersive, multi-dimensional sound experience, making it feel like music is coming from all around you. Lossless audio, on the other hand, preserves every detail of the original audio file, offering higher fidelity sound than standard compressed formats. To take advantage of Dolby Atmos, you'll need compatible headphones or speakers connected to your Windows PC. Similarly, while lossless audio works with standard equipment, higher bitrates like Hi-Res Lossless might require an external digital-to-analog converter (DAC).

These features are available in the latest version of the Apple Music app for Windows, downloadable from the Microsoft Store. The app requires a PC running a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or Windows 11. You can enable Dolby Atmos and select lossless quality tiers within the app's playback settings.

The arrival of these features marks the official release of the standalone Apple Music app on Windows, moving it out of its previous preview phase. This is part of Apple's broader strategy to replace the aging iTunes application on Windows with separate, dedicated apps for Music, TV, and Apple Devices, mirroring the approach taken on macOS years ago.

For Windows users subscribed to Apple Music, this update significantly enhances the listening experience, bringing features that were previously exclusive to Apple's own hardware or the macOS platform.
