Battlefield 6 and its free-to-play Redsec battle royale ship with full crossplay enabled across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Matchmaking prioritizes console-versus-console when possible, then expands to include PC if needed. You can turn crossplay off from the in-game settings on console to keep lobbies to your own platform, but doing so slows queues and blocks cross-platform parties. On PC, there’s no off switch at launch.

How Battlefield Redsec crossplay works

With crossplay on, matchmaking can pull players from PS5, Xbox, and PC. The system favors “console preferred” pools when you’re on PS5 or Xbox, then falls back to mixed-platform lobbies if it can’t form a match quickly. If you routinely squad up with friends on other platforms, keep crossplay on—turning it off will prevent you from joining them.

Turn crossplay off (console)

Use the in-game toggle to restrict matchmaking to your current platform:

  • Open Settings (gear icon) from the main menu.
  • Go to System.
  • Scroll to Setup.
  • Toggle Crossplay off.

What changes when it’s off:

  • You’ll only match with the same platform (PS5 with PS5, Xbox with Xbox).
  • Queue times are typically longer, and matches may not fill during low-population hours.
  • Cross-platform parties won’t work; your squad must all be on the same platform.

Note: Some players have reported inconsistent behavior on day one when disabling crossplay on Xbox. If you see mixed lobbies after turning it off, back out, confirm the setting, and retry matchmaking. Expect this to improve as updates roll out and populations stabilize.

Crossplay availability by platform

Platform Default Can disable? Setting location Effect when off
PS5 On Yes Settings → System → Setup → Crossplay PS5-only matchmaking; longer queues; no cross-platform parties
Xbox Series X/S On Yes Settings → System → Setup → Crossplay Xbox-only matchmaking; longer queues; no cross-platform parties
PC On No Always mixed-platform; cannot restrict to PC-only at launch

Add cross-platform friends

You can squad up across platforms using EA IDs:

  • From the main menu, open Social.
  • Select Search EA ID, enter your friend’s EA ID, and send an invite.
  • Once accepted, invite them to your party from the same Social menu.

Reminder: If anyone in the party is on a different platform, crossplay must be on for the party leader.

Cross-progression and shared progression with Battlefield 6

Progression is shared between Battlefield 6 multiplayer and Redsec. Unlocks and XP earned in one carry into the other. Progress also moves with you between platforms as long as your console or PC accounts are linked to the same EA account. Some purchased items don’t transfer between platforms (for example, Phantom Edition bonuses), and game licenses remain platform-specific.

Queue impact and practical trade-offs

  • Fastest queues: leave crossplay on. You’ll generally match into console-first lobbies on PS5/Xbox, with PC added only if needed.
  • Stricter lobbies: turn crossplay off on console if you want platform-only matches, knowing that queues may stall during off-peak times.
  • PC reality: there’s no PC toggle at launch. Expect mixed-platform lobbies.

If your primary concern is time to match, keep crossplay on. If your priority is limiting input pools on console, use the toggle and plan for longer waits. Redsec is free to play, but Battlefield 6 is not; shared progression keeps your grind consistent either way.
