Crimson Desert Satintail Root — Finding the Cure in Sunset Village

Crimson Desert Satintail Root — Finding the Cure in Sunset Village

Tucked away at the southern tip of Hernand lies a small, isolated settlement where villagers are suffering from a mysterious disease. The quest "Village of the Sick" sends you to gather a Satintail Root for a healer named Freidis, but the plant itself is a single, easy-to-overlook specimen hidden among the fields northwest of the village. Completing the quest rewards you with three additional inventory slots — a meaningful upgrade given Crimson Desert's single shared inventory for weapons, relics, and collectibles.

Quick answer: Head northwest of the Sunset Village, past the fields on the west side, and look for a large tree next to a big rock. The Satintail Root grows at the base of that tree.

Starting the Village of the Sick quest

Travel to Sunset Valley in the far south of the Hernand region. The settlement sits at the very bottom of the map, well off the beaten path of most main-story objectives. Once you arrive, speak with the healer Freidis to learn about the affliction plaguing the residents. He will ask you to retrieve a Satintail Root — a medicinal herb that grows in the surrounding area — so he can prepare a cure.

The quest can appear as early as Chapter 3 of the main story, though the exact trigger conditions are inconsistent. Some players report the quest appearing immediately upon visiting the village, while others have reached Chapter 5 or later without seeing Freidis or any quest marker. No confirmed prerequisite quest has been identified — completing "Eric's Request" (a Greymane errand that also sends you to Sunset Valley) does not reliably unlock it, and players who skipped that quest have still received Village of the Sick normally.

⚠️
A number of players have reported that the quest simply does not trigger at all. If Freidis and the quest marker are absent after multiple visits and game reloads, the issue is likely a known bug. Reporting it through Pearl Abyss's official support channels may help push a fix in a future patch.

Exact Satintail Root location

Step 1: From the village center, head northwest. You will cross a series of cultivated fields on the western side of the settlement. An on-screen prompt reading "Investigate the surrounding area" will appear once you enter the search zone.

Step 2: Look for a large, distinctive tree standing next to a big rock. The tree is roughly north of the tip of the third field on the village's west side. The Satintail Root grows right at the base of this tree, near its roots.

Step 3: Interact with the plant to pick it. The root is a single, small object and blends into the ground, so take your time scanning the area. If you are having trouble getting the interaction prompt to appear, try pulling out your lantern — some players have found that equipping the lantern causes the pickup option to register.

Completing the quest and claiming your reward

With the Satintail Root in hand, return to Freidis in the village and hand it over. He will begin preparing medicine for the sick villagers, and the quest completes immediately.

RewardDetails
Inventory expansionThree additional inventory slots (medium bag / Standard Inventory Expansion Tool)
Rattan ShieldDefensive equipment reward

Because Crimson Desert uses a single unified inventory for all item types, those three extra slots are genuinely useful — especially early in the game when storage space is tight. Completing Village of the Sick sooner rather than later gives you more room for weapons, relics, and crafting materials throughout the rest of the campaign.

Troubleshooting a missing quest

The most common complaint surrounding this quest is that it never appears. Players on different platforms — including PS5 — have experienced the issue, and it does not seem tied to any specific chapter or prior quest completion. Here is what is known so far about the problem and potential workarounds.

Attempted fixResult
Reloading the game and revisiting the villageDoes not resolve the issue for most affected players
Checking notice boardsThe quest does not appear on notice boards
Completing Eric's Request firstNo confirmed effect — some players got the quest without it, others did not get it even after completing it
Progressing further in the main storyPlayers as late as Chapter 6 still report the quest missing
Reporting to Pearl Abyss supportMultiple players have submitted bug reports; no official patch has been confirmed yet

If the quest is not appearing for you, the most productive step right now is to file a bug report directly with Pearl Abyss through their support website. The more reports the development team receives, the more likely the issue is to be prioritized in an upcoming patch.

Village of the Sick is a brief, somewhat hidden side quest in an out-of-the-way corner of the map, but the inventory expansion reward makes it one of the more practical optional missions in Crimson Desert. If the quest triggers for you, grab that Satintail Root early and enjoy the extra storage space for the rest of your journey across Pywel.
