Dr Yuan Where Winds Meet: How to Join the Silver Needle Sect and Unlock Fan Healing Arts

Silver Needle is the dedicated healer sect in Where Winds Meet, and Dr Yuan is the key NPC who gets you in. Joining this sect unlocks powerful fan-based healing martial arts, but it also locks you into a very specific playstyle and set of weekly expectations.

Dr Yuan location in Where Winds Meet

To start the path into Silver Needle, you need to find Dr Yuan in Qinghe:

  • Region: Qinghe
  • Area: Moonveil Mountain
  • Landmark: Near Sage’s Refuge / Sage’s Knoll

Dr Yuan is a physician NPC based around Sage’s Refuge on Moonveil Mountain. Speaking with him begins the admission process into the Silver Needle sect. On some in-game materials he is also referred to as Sun Yuan, but it’s the same sect leader and the same entry point.

What Silver Needle offers

Silver Needle is built around medicine, support, and field healing for other players. Joining it gives you access to:

Benefit What it does
Panacea Fan Ultimate-style fan martial art focused on strong healing and support skills.
Inkwell Fan Additional fan style with more utility and supplementary support options.
Sect shop Access to healer-focused items, medicines, and cosmetics tied to Silver Needle rank.
Healer gameplay Ability to treat other players’ diseases and injuries they’d otherwise cure via NPCs.
Potion crafting Crafting routes into some of the strongest healing potions in the game.

For most players, the main draw is the pair of fan ultimates, especially Panacea Fan, which gives you reliable, scalable healing that fits naturally into many builds as a secondary weapon set.

How to join Dr Yuan’s Silver Needle sect

Joining Silver Needle is straightforward once you reach Qinghe:

Step Action
1 Travel to Qinghe and climb toward Moonveil Mountain.
2 Head for the Sage’s Refuge / Sage’s Knoll area.
3 Speak with Dr Yuan, the physician NPC, to express interest in Silver Needle.
4 Complete the admission test he offers to prove your suitability as a healer.
5 Formally accept sect membership to unlock Panacea Fan, Inkwell Fan, and the sect system.

Only one sect can be active at a time. Joining Silver Needle will replace any current sect affiliation and start you at the lowest Silver Needle rank.

Silver Needle rules and weekly expectations

Silver Needle’s identity is “tough love healer”: you save lives, but you are expected to act like a professional who charges for their work. Progress in the sect depends on obeying two core rules that are tracked week by week.

Rule Requirement Effect on sect value
Shared Healing Successfully heal other players in multiplayer activities. Increases rule value when you help others (+10 in some breakdowns).
Healing Bodies and Minds / One Life, One Price Earn at least 15 “Likes” per week from players you heal. If you fall short, your rule value drops (–10 in some descriptions).

Two things matter here:

  • You must actually use fan healing skills in multiplayer; idle play or solo content does not satisfy the sect.
  • Your patients need to reward you with Likes, reflecting the sect’s tenet of charging for life-saving work.

If your weekly performance falls below expectations, Silver Needle reduces your rule value and can slow or reverse rank gains. High rule values support promotions, give access to better sect shop items, and unlock more cosmetics.

How ranking up in Silver Needle works

Within Silver Needle, you climb an internal ladder of ranks that reflect your reputation as a healer. While exact rank names can vary in game text, the structure is consistent:

Progress factor How it contributes
Multiplayer healing sessions Each successful encounter where you meaningfully heal others improves sect standing.
Weekly Likes total Passing the 15 Likes threshold stabilizes or boosts your rule values.
Rule compliance Following sect rules prevents disciplinary point losses or value penalties.

As you move up, you unlock new sect privileges, including more elaborate healer outfits, deeper shop inventories, and a stronger identity as a physician in the broader Jianghu community.

How Silver Needle compares to other sects

Choosing Silver Needle means committing to a healer-centric role. Other sects favor very different weapons and codes of conduct:

Sect Signature weapon Core focus
Well of Heaven Thundercry Blade Righteous justice, low weekly income, protecting the weak.
Midnight Blades Infernal Twinblades Assassin-style PvP, karma gain by killing wanderers.
Nine Mortal Ways Mortal Rope Dart Disguises, tricks, pranks, and risky “fun points”.
Hollow Vale Soulshade Umbrella Life–death balance; for every healed life, one poisoning.
Silver Needle Panacea Fan, Inkwell Fan Healing, medicine, and player-to-player care in multiplayer.

If you prefer direct DPS or mischief, Well of Heaven, Midnight Blades, or Nine Mortal Ways will feel more natural. Silver Needle is best for players who enjoy support roles, like seeing other players recover from injuries, and are comfortable depending on others’ Likes each week.

Leaving Silver Needle if it doesn’t fit

Sects are not permanent, and Silver Needle is no exception. If you decide healing is not for you, you can leave:

  • Open the Sect menu from your character interface.
  • Hold the leave button at the bottom to start the departure request.
  • Complete the compensation task your sect master assigns (for some sects, this involves paying Zhou Coins).
  • Wait through the 24-hour cooldown before joining a new sect.

Rejoining Silver Needle later is possible, but you should expect to lose progress from your previous tenure. Sect hopping repeatedly is technically allowed but inefficient because each exit costs time and resources.

For anyone who likes playing the dedicated healer, Dr Yuan’s Silver Needle sect is one of the most impactful choices in Where Winds Meet. It turns your character into a traveling doctor, lets you cure other players’ ailments on the spot, and grants access to some of the strongest fan-based healing arts in the game—so long as you are ready to live by the “one life, one price” rule every week.
