Dying Light: The Beast outfits, gear slots, and how to unlock the best looks
Dying Light: The BeastWhat’s confirmed at launch, how gear works, and where to claim Crane’s Legacy Outfit and other rewards.

Dying Light: The Beast brings Kyle Crane back with a loot-driven gear system and a handful of headline outfits tied to bundles and launch promos. This guide breaks down what counts as an “outfit” versus stat-bearing gear, the notable looks you can actually unlock on day one, and the fastest way to claim everything from your in-game stash.
Gear vs. outfits: what you’re actually equipping
The Beast uses piece-by-piece apparel rather than one-piece suits. Early game drops and shop inventories point to multiple gear slots (for items like shades, gloves, bracers, a vest, and trousers), each with their own bonuses. You’ll find:
- Low-tier set pieces that boost progression (for example, Explorer items that add a small EXP bonus per piece).
- Early armor picks such as a heavy vest and trousers that contribute “Gear Armor” ratings.

That gear layer is separate from full “outfits,” which are complete looks delivered via bundles or deluxe content. Think of outfits as set visuals you equip from the stash, while individual gear pieces provide your stats.
Tip: You can craft and upgrade early, too. The Hunting Bow unlocks quickly with a basic blueprint, and Manual Pages let you improve essentials like Bandages and throwables as you collect them.
Confirmed outfits at launch (and how to get them)
- Legacy Outfit (free thank-you gift) — Techland is giving everyone who’s already with the community or joins before launch a Legacy Outfit inspired by Crane’s original look. Claim it via Dying Light Outpost notifications starting September 20 after you’ve played once online, then pull it from your in-game stash. The giveaway is detailed in the studio’s announcement.
- Ultimate Survivor Outfit — Part of the Hero of Harran Bundle (a pre-order bonus for the Standard Edition). The bundle also includes the Harran Combat Knife (with an upgradable blueprint), The Follower Crossbow (with an upgradable blueprint), In Jade’s Memory Pistol (with an upgradable blueprint), and the Castor Woods Patrol vehicle skin.

- Castor Woods Prepper outfit — Included with the Deluxe Edition, alongside a Roadhog vehicle skin, the Survivalist SMG (with an upgradable blueprint), and digital goodies. Deluxe contents and platforms are outlined on the game’s product page.
How to claim freebies (and make them actually show up)
For gifts tied to Dying Light Outpost (including the free Legacy Outfit and the APEX Car Skin), the process is the same:
- Create or sign in to your Dying Light Outpost account, connect your platform, and play The Beast at least once while online.
- From September 20, claim rewards from your Outpost notifications; they’ll be delivered to your in-game stash.
The steps, eligibility windows, and timing are summarized on Techland’s website.

Note: The APEX Car Skin is a separate free thank-you gift that follows the same claim flow. A launch-week “Burning Wolf Axe” is also available if you rack up four hours of gameplay before 6PM CEST on September 22 (Outpost account linked, online play required).
Where to find your items in-game
Everything you claim drops into your item stash, which becomes available during the second quest, “Safe Haven.” The stash timing and other launch FAQs are covered on the game’s official page. If a pre-order bundle isn’t appearing, double-check that the DLC is enabled in your platform’s game properties and that the game shows as connected to Techland services at the bottom of the main menu.
Starter picks that make sense
- Stack passive XP early: Pick up Explorer pieces (shades, gloves, bracers) when you reach the Town Hall trader to add small EXP gains per slot while you level.
- Grab baseline armor: The heavy vest and trousers are strong early defensive pickups and are easy to reach once you’re set loose in Old Town.
- Build a ranged option: Craft the Hunting Bow at your first workbench; ammo materials are easy to source or buy in small batches, making it a dependable early ranged tool.
Common questions
- Can I mix-and-match gear like in DL2? Yes. The Beast uses individual gear pieces with their own stats, and you’ll loot and upgrade them over time. Full “outfits” arrive as complete looks via bundles and deluxe content.
- When can I start changing looks? As soon as the stash unlocks in “Safe Haven.” That’s where bundle outfits and Outpost rewards appear.
- Do last-gen players get the same rewards? Techland is prioritizing current platforms at launch and plans to release PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions by the end of 2025. Outpost-based gifts depend on playing while connected and claiming through notifications; timing on last-gen will align with those versions going live.
If you’re just jumping in, start by claiming the Legacy Outfit, check your stash after “Safe Haven,” and then layer in Explorer set pieces while you hunt down early armor. From there, the deluxe and pre-order outfits are straightforward—once claimed, they’re just a stash visit away.
