Ghost of Yotei fast travel — unlock requirements and how it works
Ghost of YoteiLearn when fast travel becomes available, how to use it, and the rules that can block it.

Ghost of Yotei lets you skip long rides across Ezo once you’ve cleared the opening. Fast travel unlocks right after the prologue and works from almost anywhere on the map, as long as you target a place you’ve already discovered.
When fast travel becomes available
Fast travel is enabled early. Finish the prologue and you’ll gain access to the open world map with the ability to warp between discovered locations.
How to fast travel i
- Press the touchpad to open the map.
- Move the cursor over a discovered destination.
- Press Triangle to initiate fast travel.
- If prompted at larger hubs, choose the exact arrival point (for example, a main gate or a specific stall).
There’s no cost to use fast travel.

What counts as a fast travel destination
You can only warp to places you’ve already visited that appear as named markers on the map. Typical examples include:
- Settlements and inns (major hubs may offer multiple arrival points).
- Camps you’ve discovered — enemy-held camps must be liberated first.
- Key story and utility spots such as Yotei’s Shadow Inn and Atsu’s Home.
Tip: As you reveal the map, more markers become valid fast travel points, making later missions quicker to reach.
Rules, limits, and what can block fast travel
Behavior | Detail |
---|---|
Eligibility | Only previously visited, named locations are eligible targets. |
Enemy sites | You must liberate hostile locations before you can warp to them. |
Initiation | You can start fast travel from virtually anywhere on the map screen. |
Blocked states | Unavailable during combat and certain scripted story sections. |
Cost | Free — no resources are consumed. |
Large hubs | Some destinations let you pick a precise arrival point. |
Map cues | Red text on the map can flag available upgrades, new merchant stock, or mission objectives at a location. |
Why you can’t fast travel right now
- You’re in combat or a scripted sequence — finish the fight or objective, then try again.
- The marker is undiscovered — ride close enough to reveal it on your map first.
- The location is enemy-controlled — clear it to unlock fast travel there.
Camping reduces backtracking, fast travel still exists
Beyond teleporting between markers, you can set up camp across Ezo. Camps bring parts of the world to you — merchants and quest-givers can visit while you’re at the fire — which cuts down on back-and-forth trips just to shop or pick up tasks. Fast travel remains available for longer jumps.
The quickest path to a smooth loop is simple: reveal markers as you explore, liberate hostile camps when you reach them, and use the map’s Triangle prompt whenever you need to cross long distances fast.
