The Crimson Kimono is a mythic tale in Teshio Ridge that sends you chasing red yuki mushi (fireflies), piecing together a family story carved in snow. It’s light on combat, heavy on navigation, and ends with a powerful stealth armor set tailored to assassins.

Walkthrough

Use the path order below; each stop ends with a snow sculpture or note that triggers the next swarm of red yuki mushi.

  • Start in Sakuru Woods (Mother Daughter Tree): Speak to Ugetsu by the lone orange/yellow tree, then examine the nearby snow sculpture. Follow the red yuki mushi to a small abandoned campsite and read the scroll on the ground.
  • Head to the eastern Hakodake Mountains: Travel north to the area’s only orange Mother Daughter Tree. Inspect the snow sculpture beneath it. You’ll be ambushed by shinobi here—clear them out.
  • Climb to the shack: After the fight, follow the yuki mushi uphill to an abandoned shack. Inside, read the scroll pointing you to a mountain north of the Teshio River.
  • Cross to the mountain north of Teshio River: From your current position, go southwest to reach it. Find the lone orange Mother Daughter Tree among the white trees and inspect the snow sculpture.
  • Crawl into the mountain: Follow the yuki mushi to a low, partially hidden opening and crawl inside. Squeeze through a narrow gap; when you reach a frozen pool, turn right, jump to the far wall, and climb. Continue forward, swing across the gap outside, move through another cave, and you’ll arrive at the Old Home.
  • Explore the Old Home: Enter the house and climb the ladder to the attic. Read the note.
  • Fix the final sculpture, then go to the grave: Step back outside to the frozen stream directly in front of the house and examine the final snow sculpture.
  • Follow the yuki mushi one last time to the mother’s grave behind the home. Check the pile of rocks to the right of the grave to claim the Crimson Kimono.

What the Crimson Kimono does

Perk Effect
Kunai chain assassinations Allows chained takedowns by throwing kunai during assassinations.
Reduced detection Significantly lowers how quickly enemies spot you.
Kusarigama reach Enables kusarigama assassinations from a longer distance.
Cosmetics Compatible masks include Crimson Kimono Mask and Yuki Mushi Mask (helmet use may be restricted with certain masks).

In short: this set is built for pure stealth—closing distance unseen, opening with a silent kill, and fanning out a kunai chain to collapse a group before anyone reacts.

Landmarks and navigation notes

  • Mother Daughter Trees: Each objective area has a single orange tree that stands out against the snow. Through the spyglass, these may appear as Sun‑Painted Trees.
  • Ambush timing: Expect the shinobi attack immediately after inspecting the sculpture at the eastern Hakodake Mountains tree. Clear them before the yuki mushi progress.
  • Cave pathing: In the mountain section, the right turn at the frozen pool is easy to miss. Look for a jumpable ledge across the ice, then climb up to rejoin the yuki mushi route.
  • Final pickup: At the Old Home’s graveyard, the interact prompt is on the rock pile to the right of the grave, not on the headstone itself.

Why you should do this tale early

The Crimson Kimono lands early in Teshio Ridge and immediately upgrades stealth play—especially if you favor kunai to thin groups. It pairs well with kusarigama routes through camps and lets you approach close without drawing eyes. If you’re working toward collecting every armor set, this also counts toward the game’s “For All Occasions” trophy.

Note: Nothing in this quest is missable. If you advance the story, you can always return and complete it later in free roam.

Once you’ve secured the armor at the Old Home, try revisiting earlier outposts. The reduced detection and kunai chaining can flip stealth‑unfriendly routes into quick, surgical clears.
