The Drifter’s Cloak unlocks controlled gliding and the ability to ride wind updrafts, opening new paths throughout Far Fields and beyond. You’ll earn it by completing the Flexile Spines wish for the Seamstress in Far Fields. Below is a concise route to start the wish, gather the required Spine Cores quickly, and use the cloak effectively once you have it.

Start the Flexile Spines wish in Far Fields

The Seamstress hosts this wish in a prominent, balloon-like studio roughly in the middle of the Far Fields region. You’ll recognize the area by visible air gusts venting from the ground—clear indicators that a wind-riding ability is nearby.

Step 1: Reach Far Fields and navigate toward the large room near the region’s center. Look for the tall chamber with a suspended, balloon-shaped hut.

Step 2: Platform upward to enter the Seamstress’s studio. Speak with her to begin the Flexile Spines wish.

Step 3: Accept her request to collect 25 Spine Cores. These are gathered from Hoker enemies found locally.

Collect 25 Spine Cores from Hokers (fast local farm)

Hokers are floating, bulbous foes that fire sharp spines. During the wish, their spines can be harvested as Spine Cores in nearby rooms, so you don’t need to travel far.

Step 1: From the Seamstress’s studio, head to the rooms just east. These chambers contain several Hokers and are ideal for quick repeats.

Step 2: Learn Hoker behavior. They damage you by firing spines at range. After they are defeated, they release a final spread of four spines in either the cardinal or intercardinal directions—create space to avoid this last volley.

Step 3: Harvest spines as they embed. When a Hoker’s spines stick into the floor or walls, collect the glowing spines to gain Spine Cores. In some cases, striking embedded spines with your needle also registers the core quickly.

Step 4: Pick up defeat drops. When a Hoker dies in this wish, a spine will remain on the ground. Walk to it and collect the glowing stick to add another Spine Core.

Step 5: Reset the room for speed. If you’re short of 25, leave and re-enter the same chambers to respawn Hokers and continue gathering until your wish tracker shows 25/25.

Turn in the wish and receive the Drifter’s Cloak

Once your counter reaches 25 Spine Cores, return immediately to the Seamstress.

Step 1: Go back to the studio and talk to the Seamstress to complete Flexile Spines.

Step 2: Receive the Drifter’s Cloak. It is automatically equipped and replaces the Hunter’s Cloak, so you don’t need to manage equipment slots.

How gliding works with the Drifter’s Cloak

The cloak changes mid-air movement in two important ways: slower descent for long horizontal traversals and vertical lift when inside wind columns.

  • Start a glide by holding the jump button in mid-air. Press and hold Jump (for example, B on Switch or X on Xbox) to flare the cloak and slow your fall.
  • Ride updrafts to gain height. When you see wind gusts rising from vents or floor cracks, hold your glide inside them to ascend. This is required to progress through sections of Far Fields.
  • Cross larger gaps. Begin from a higher ledge, jump, then hold your glide to extend horizontal distance. Use the stick or directional keys to bias your drift.
  • Combine combat movement with glide. For safer repositioning, pogo off enemies or hazards, then hold glide to create spacing and avoid ground-based attacks while you reset.

Tips

These small adjustments shorten the time to the cloak and reduce avoidable damage while you farm Spine Cores.

  • Set a nearby bench as your respawn before farming, so a death doesn’t cost your progress route.
  • Track the wish counter in your tasks menu to avoid over-farming past 25 cores.
  • When a Hoker is about to pop, back off diagonally—the last four spines spread is the most common source of chip damage.
  • In the spine rooms east of the studio, work one side at a time. Clearing in a small loop makes it easier to collect embedded spines before they despawn.
  • Wind vents are visual cues for progression. If you see strong updrafts you cannot ride yet, you’re close to where the cloak will be used soon.

With the Flexile Spines wish complete and the Drifter’s Cloak equipped, you can ride updrafts and glide across wide gaps, streamlining traversal through Far Fields and newly opened routes later in Pharloom.
