Find meteor craters during the Meteor Shower

Meteor craters do not appear on the map. You’ll need to visually track the shower and move toward impact zones. Each crater contains mineable meteors and may be guarded by hostile creatures.

Step 1: Wait until Day 5 or later, then watch for the Meteor Shower alert The sky is on fire. This confirms meteors will impact the forest.

Step 2: Face the direction of visible impacts and note nearby landmarks. This shortens the search when you leave your base.

Step 3: Travel toward the impact area and scan ground level for fresh craters. Expect the terrain to be scorched or disturbed.

Step 4: If you missed the exact fall location, keep moving through adjacent forest tiles. Craters spawn in the world but are not marked on your map, so rely on recent terrain changes.

Required tools and storage for meteor mining

You can mine meteors with axes and carry the pieces in sacks. Meteor nodes take more hits than trees, so bring your best available gear.

Mine meteors safely and efficiently

Meteors appear in two visual types—Black Ore and Red Crystals—but they function the same. Clear threats first, then mine.

Step 1: Equip any qualifying axe from your inventory. Better axes reduce the time to break meteor nodes.

Step 2: Approach the crater edge and survey for Meteor Crabs and wolves. Hostiles can interrupt mining and waste time.

Step 3: Eliminate nearby enemies before you swing at the meteor. Creating a safe perimeter prevents damage while you focus on mining.

Step 4: Position yourself beside the meteor and begin striking with your axe. Expect more hits than chopping wood.

Step 5: After the node breaks, collect all dropped pieces promptly. Items can scatter slightly around the crater floor.

Step 6: Store the haul in your equipped sack to keep your inventory clear for additional nodes in the same crater.

Meteor drops and what they’re used for

Meteor nodes can yield the following items, used in late‑game crafting paths:

  • Meteor Shard.
  • Raw Obsidiron Ore.
  • Gold Shard.

These materials feed into the Meteor Anvil (Anvil Building) tool workshop for new blueprints and gear. Gold Shards are less common than Meteor Shards, so expect to mine multiple nodes to meet recipe requirements.

Refine Obsidiron and craft the Obsidiron Chest

Turning meteor loot into an Obsidiron Chest involves assembling the Meteor Anvil, refining Obsidiron, and meeting a strict material list.

Step 1: After a Meteor Shower, locate the Anvil Building marked by a red anvil icon. This is where you’ll assemble the Meteor Anvil.

Step 2: Enter the building and defeat Meteor Crabs inside. Clearing the room lets you interact with parts without interruptions.

Step 3: Assemble the Meteor Anvil from parts found in the building. Once complete, the crafting menu becomes available.

Step 4: Mine Raw Obsidiron Ore from meteor nodes. Keep it separate from your other drops so you can process it efficiently.

Step 5: Break Raw Obsidiron Ore by dropping it from a height. This fractures the ore into pieces suitable for smelting.

Step 6: Throw the broken pieces into lava within the Meteor Crater to create a Scalding Obsidiron Ingot. Handle this immediately to avoid losing track of where it lands.

Step 7: Cool the hot ingot in water to convert it into a usable Obsidiron Ingot. Only cooled ingots count for crafting.

Step 8: At the Meteor Anvil, craft the Obsidiron Chest blueprint using 10 Meteor Shards, 5 Gold Shards, and 3 Obsidiron Ingots. Place the blueprint to summon the chest and claim the associated reward and achievement.

Troubleshooting common sticking points

Most setbacks come from missed impact tracking, unprepared gear, or incomplete material processing. Address these first for faster results.

Can’t find craters? Wait for the next shower, then move immediately toward visible impacts after the The sky is on fire alert. Searching promptly reduces wander time.

Mining feels slow? Switch to a stronger axe if available. Higher‑tier tools cut down swings per node.

Obsidiron not counting? Verify you broke the ore, heated it in lava to a Scalding state, and then cooled it in water. Skipping any stage prevents crafting.
