Imagine yourself in a situation where you are typing something on a Word document and an automatic page break happened while you are still in that paragraph. This page break may disturb your workflow and sometimes confuse you.

Microsoft Word document lets you remove page breaks and continue working without any disturbances. There are a couple of ways to remove page breaks in word. Let’s see what they are and how we can remove page breaks.

Remove Single Page Break

To get started, open a word document and click on the ‘Paragraph’ symbol in the Paragraph section of the Home tab.

You can now see all the page breaks in the document. Select the ‘Page Break’ text with ‘Paragraph’ symbol and hit delete on your keyboard to delete the page break.

Remove All Page Breaks at Once

You can also remove all page breaks at once which are disturbing the flow of your writing by breaking the paragraphs. Click on the ‘Replace’ button in the Home tab.

The ‘Find and Replace’ dialog box will appear. Enter ^b in the ‘Find what’ text box. You don’t need to enter anything in the ‘Replace with’ box.

Now, click on ‘Replace All’ button at the bottom of ‘Find and Replace’ box.

All the page breaks that disturb the flow of a paragraph will now be removed.

Customize Page Break Settings

One can also modify a few settings to manage page breaks from disturbing/confusing you. Click on the ‘Layout’ tab in the ribbon.

Next click on the small arrow at the bottom-right corner of the paragraph section to open ‘Paragraph settings’.

A ‘Paragraph’ dialog box will open. Click on ‘Line and Page Breaks’ tab on the window.

In the ‘Lines and Page Breaks’ tab, you will find ‘Pagination’ options.

  • ‘Widow/Orphan control’ is the default option that makes page breaks even while you are in the middle of a paragraph.
  • ‘Keep with next’ makes two paragraphs in the document stay together without any page break between them.
  • ‘Keep lines together’ keeps the complete paragraph together without any break between lines of the paragraph.
  • ‘Page break’ before breaks the page before a paragraph and lets you keep the paragraph intact.

Select any of them according to your need by checking the box beside them and click ‘OK’ to save the settings.

You can use any of the above methods to remove page breaks in your document. The page breaks will no more be a disturbance to your flow.
