The Outer Worlds 2 is a solo RPG. There’s no online multiplayer, no co-op, and no PvP. Like the first game, it’s built around your choices, your character, and AI companions — not a shared session with friends.

Why there’s no co-op or PvP

The Outer Worlds 2 is designed as a narrative, choice-driven action RPG. That structure — branching dialogue, reputation systems, and story consequences that pivot on your decisions — is fundamentally tuned for a single perspective. Adding co-op or competitive modes would change pacing and quest flow in ways that undercut those solo-focused systems.

Instead of human teammates, you recruit AI companions who fight alongside you, banter during exploration, and react to your decisions. They’re part of the story and can strengthen or strain your build and playstyle, but they don’t turn the game into a co-op experience.

What you can (and can’t) do with friends

  • You can’t join another player’s session or invite them into yours.
  • There’s no drop-in/drop-out co-op, no shared progression, and no party-based online play.
  • There are no competitive arenas, invasions, or PvP rulesets.
  • If you want a “party” feel, your only option is assembling a squad of AI companions.

Tip: If you and a friend still want to compare outcomes, you can each run solo playthroughs with different character builds and dialogue choices. The series’ branching quests tend to produce noticeably different paths and endings.

What about mods or future updates?

There’s no official roadmap for multiplayer and no indication that co-op or PvP will be added later. On PC, it’s always possible that community modders attempt an experimental co-op mod, but that’s never guaranteed and won’t be officially supported. Expect the shipped game — and its post-launch support — to remain focused on single-player systems.

Release timing and basics

The Outer Worlds 2 is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2025. The developer is Obsidian Entertainment, and the publisher is Xbox Game Studios. Expect the same first-person, story-led structure as the original, with new worlds to explore and fresh companions to recruit — all designed for solo play.

If your priority is cooperative or competitive multiplayer, this isn’t that kind of game. If you want a focused, single-player RPG with room for role-playing and divergent outcomes, The Outer Worlds 2 is built exactly for that.
