How co-op works in Little Nightmares 3

Co-op is built for two players online. You’ll need an internet connection, and you can invite a friend to join your session. To make it easier to play together, a Friend’s Pass will be offered at launch on platforms where it’s supported, letting a second player join without owning their own copy.

Save behavior has a few important constraints. If you start a playthrough in co-op, you finish it in co-op with the same two players tied to that save. You can’t flip a save from solo to co-op (or the reverse) midway. If you want to switch modes or partners, start a new run — there are up to eight save slots available.

Solo play and the AI partner

You can play alone. In solo mode, the second protagonist is present and handled by AI so puzzles and traversal designed for two still function. If you’re playing co-op and want to go solo, create a new save; you can’t convert an existing co-op file to solo.

Cross-play and cross-gen limitations

Online play does not extend across different console families — cross-platform multiplayer between manufacturers isn’t supported. Cross-generation matchmaking won’t be available at launch either, though it’s under consideration for the future. The team is also working to enable cross-generation play between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with details to follow.

Release date and platforms

Little Nightmares 3 is slated for October 10, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Little Nightmares 3 adds two-player online co-op to the series and lets you bring a friend with a Friend’s Pass, but there’s no couch co-op and no cross-platform play. Plan your saves with the mode restriction in mind, and pick your partner before you start.
