Little Nightmares 3 adds online co-op to the series, but it doesn’t open the door to full cross-platform play. Here’s how matchmaking, saves, and co-op logistics actually work so you can plan where to play with a friend.

Crossplay and platform compatibility

There’s no crossplay between different ecosystems (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, PC). Limited crossplay is available within the same console family, with an exception on Nintendo at launch.

Your platform Can play online with Notes
PlayStation 4 PlayStation 5 Cross-generation within PlayStation is supported.
PlayStation 5 PlayStation 4 Cross-generation within PlayStation is supported.
Xbox One Xbox Series X|S Cross-generation within Xbox is supported.
Xbox Series X|S Xbox One Cross-generation within Xbox is supported.
Nintendo Switch Nintendo Switch 2 Not supported at launch; cross-gen support is being worked on.
PC PC PC players can only match with other PC players.
PlayStation (any) Xbox, Switch, PC No cross-platform play across different ecosystems.
Xbox (any) PlayStation, Switch, PC No cross-platform play across different ecosystems.
Nintendo (any) PlayStation, Xbox, PC No cross-platform play across different ecosystems.

Tip: If you’re planning a co-op run, pick the same platform family as your partner. PlayStation with PlayStation, Xbox with Xbox, PC with PC.

Co-op format and local play

Co-op is online-only. There’s no local or couch co-op, and there’s no split-screen mode. If you want to play together in the same room, you’ll still need two devices and two platform accounts within the same console family or both on PC.

Friend’s Pass (one copy for two players)

Little Nightmares 3 supports a Friend’s Pass so only one player needs to own the game to play online co-op with a friend. A few constraints come with it:

  • Only the owner starts the co-op session.
  • The session is tied to a specific save file and duo; to play solo or with another friend, start a new save.
  • Only the owner earns achievements/trophies and retains saved progress.
  • Up to eight save slots are available, so you can dedicate different files for solo and co-op.

Cross-progression and saves

Cross-progression between competing platforms isn’t supported. If you start on PlayStation, you won’t be able to move that save to Xbox, Switch, or PC.

Within a single platform family, you can continue on another console in that family using its standard cloud save system (for example, PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Series X|S). That’s platform-level cloud syncing, not true cross-progression.

Voice chat and in-game communication

There’s no built-in voice chat. Communication is intentionally minimal to preserve the atmosphere. You can use the in-game “call” action to ping your partner, or rely on external party chat apps if you want voice.

Release date and supported platforms

Little Nightmares 3 launches October 10, 2025 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Plan your co-op around the same platform family, expect no cross-progression, and use the Friend’s Pass if only one of you wants to buy the game. If you’re on Nintendo hardware, don’t count on Switch-to–Switch 2 co-op at launch.
