Pokémon GO Kyurem Fusion Raid Day (Jan 10, 2026): Raids, fusion, and rewards explained

Kyurem Fusion Raid Day is a three-hour raid event in Pokémon GO that turns the Unova Tao trio into one of the most efficient ways to stockpile powerful Legendaries and unlock Kyurem’s fused forms.

It runs on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.

Event schedule and raid rotation

The entire event is built around alternating raid bosses. During the three-hour window, Tier 5 raids feature four Legendaries from Unova:

  • Reshiram
  • Zekrom
  • Black Kyurem*
  • White Kyurem*

Raids switch every half hour:

  • From :00 to :29 each hour, gyms host Reshiram and Black Kyurem.
  • From :30 to :59 each hour, gyms host Zekrom and White Kyurem.

*Black Kyurem and White Kyurem are the only bosses that grant Fusion Energy and the only ones that lead to Kyurem encounters after a win.

All event bonuses and limits

Several global bonuses are active to make the short window more productive.

  • Extra free in-person raid passes – Spin Gym Photo Discs during the event to receive up to five additional free Raid Passes, for a total of six standard passes that day (one daily + five bonus).
  • Raised Remote Raid Pass cap – The daily Remote Raid Pass limit increases to 20 from Friday, January 9 at 5:00 p.m. to Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. PST.
  • Boosted shiny odds – Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem (encountered after fusion-form raids) all have increased shiny rates during the event.

These bonuses apply to all trainers without needing a paid ticket.

Every Legendary featured during the event can come with a high-value move.

  • Reshiram encountered in raids knows the Charged Attack Fusion Flare.
  • Zekrom encountered in raids knows the Charged Attack Fusion Bolt.
  • Kyurem encountered after Black or White Kyurem raids may know the Charged Attack Glaciate.

Fusion Flare and Fusion Bolt are guaranteed on their respective bosses; Glaciate on Kyurem is not guaranteed.

How raid encounters work during Kyurem Fusion Raid Day

The event uses fusion bosses as a gateway to base-form Kyurem:

  • Defeating Black Kyurem or White Kyurem always leads to an encounter with standard Kyurem, not the fused form.
  • That Kyurem rolls its own IVs, shiny chance, and may have Glaciate.
  • Defeating Reshiram or Zekrom works like standard Tier 5 raids: you encounter the boss you beat, each with its featured move.

The shiny boost applies to all Kyurem encounters that come from fusion raids, as well as Reshiram and Zekrom themselves.

Fusion Energy, candy costs, and what carries over

Kyurem fusion hinges on two special resources: Volt Fusion Energy and Blaze Fusion Energy. Both function like a one-time evolution cost, not a permanent stat upgrade.

Fusion Components Energy cost Candy cost
Black Kyurem Kyurem + Zekrom 1,000 Volt Fusion Energy 30 Kyurem Candy + 30 Zekrom Candy
White Kyurem Kyurem + Reshiram 1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy 30 Kyurem Candy + 30 Reshiram Candy

Volt Fusion Energy and Blaze Fusion Energy are earned only by defeating Black Kyurem and White Kyurem in raids. Reshiram and Zekrom raids do not award Fusion Energy.

When a fusion is created:

  • The resulting Pokémon fully inherits Kyurem’s stats, including IVs and level.
  • Reshiram’s or Zekrom’s IVs and level do not affect the fused form.
  • The shiny status also comes from Kyurem, not from Reshiram or Zekrom.

Separating a fused Kyurem back into Kyurem + Reshiram/Zekrom does not cost Fusion Energy or any candy. However, fusing again later still requires another 1,000 Energy and the candy costs.

Both Black Kyurem and White Kyurem are account-locked in several ways:

  • They cannot be traded.
  • They cannot be transferred to the professor.
  • They cannot be transferred to Pokémon HOME.

Freeze Shock and Ice Burn Adventure Effects

Kyurem fusion unlocks two new Charged Attacks with Adventure Effects that extend beyond battles.

Freeze Shock (Black Kyurem route)

Freeze Shock becomes available by fusing Zekrom with a Kyurem that already knows Glaciate. When fused, Glaciate is replaced by Freeze Shock; when Kyurem and Zekrom are separated, the move on Kyurem reverts to Glaciate.

Freeze Shock also doubles as an Adventure Effect:

  • Activation cost is 5,000 Stardust and 5 Kyurem Candy.
  • Each activation runs for 10 minutes.
  • During that time, wild encounter Pokémon on the map do not move, which makes throws and catches easier, including with connected devices like GO Plus-style accessories.
  • You can extend the timer in 10-minute increments up to 2 hours per tap, and stack uses up to 24 hours total.

Only Kyurem fused with Zekrom and carrying Freeze Shock can trigger this effect. Black Kyurem itself cannot be taught Freeze Shock via Charged TM or Elite Charged TM.

Ice Burn (White Kyurem route)

Ice Burn follows the same pattern on the Reshiram side. Fusing Reshiram with a Kyurem that knows Glaciate converts Glaciate into Ice Burn. Separating them returns Glaciate to Kyurem.

Ice Burn’s Adventure Effect is tuned around ring speed and catch difficulty:

  • Activation cost is 5,000 Stardust and 5 Kyurem Candy.
  • Each use lasts 10 minutes.
  • The colored target ring during encounters moves more slowly, making Excellent Throws significantly easier and raising catch consistency, including for accessory devices.
  • The timer can be extended in 10-minute chunks up to 2 hours per tap, and chained up to 24 hours of total duration.

As with Freeze Shock, White Kyurem cannot learn Ice Burn with Charged TM or Elite Charged TM; the move change only happens through fusion with a Glaciate Kyurem.

Only one Adventure Effect can be active at a time. If Freeze Shock is running, Ice Burn (or any other Adventure Effect) cannot be started until it ends or is deactivated, and vice versa.

Alongside the free bonuses, a one-time paid ticket is available for extra raid-focused perks.

The ticket costs US$4.99 or local equivalent and applies from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time on January 10, 2026. It adds:

  • Eight extra in-person Raid Passes from Gym spins, raising the potential daily total to 14 (1 standard + 5 free event passes + 8 ticket passes).
  • Increased chance at Rare Candy XL rewards from completed raids.
  • 50% additional XP from each Raid Battle.
  • 2× Stardust from each Raid Battle.

Tickets can be gifted to friends who are at least Great Friends. Purchases are not refundable except where local law or the Pokémon GO Terms of Service require it, and tickets cannot be bought with PokéCoins.

The ticket is on sale in the in-game shop until January 10, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. local time.

A separate Kyurem Fusion Raid Day Ultra Ticket Box is available through the Pokémon GO Web Store for US$4.99 or local equivalent. It bundles the event ticket with one additional Premium Battle Pass.

Raiding tips from the official counter recommendations

All four bosses share Dragon typing but have different secondary types, so the best counters vary slightly.

Reshiram counters (Dragon/Fire)

Reshiram is weak to Ground, Rock, and Dragon attacks. High-end options include:

  • Eternatus with powerful Dragon-type moves.
  • Mega Rayquaza as a Dragon-boosting attacker.
  • Mega Garchomp and Garchomp/Shadow Garchomp with Ground/Dragon coverage.
  • Primal Groudon with Ground-type damage.
  • Origin Forme Dialga for strong Dragon damage and neutral bulk.

Zekrom counters (Dragon/Electric)

Zekrom takes increased damage from Ice, Ground, Dragon, and Fairy moves. Strong picks include:

  • Eternatus again as a top Dragon attacker.
  • Mega Rayquaza and Mega Garchomp for Dragon DPS and team buffs.
  • Primal Groudon for Ground-type damage.
  • Garchomp or Shadow Garchomp with Ground focus.
  • Mega Salamence as another strong Dragon option.

Black Kyurem and White Kyurem counters (Dragon/Ice)

Both fusions share Dragon/Ice typing and are weak to Fighting, Rock, Dragon, Steel, and Fairy. Recommended counters include:

  • Crowned Sword Zacian as a Fairy/Steel attacker.
  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta with Fighting/Steel coverage.
  • Rayquaza or Mega Rayquaza for raw Dragon damage.
  • Dusk Mane Necrozma with Steel-type moves.
  • Mega Lucario as a flexible Fighting/Steel mega.
  • Gardevoir, Shadow Gardevoir, or Mega Gardevoir with Fairy-type attacks.

With strong lineups, Black Kyurem and White Kyurem can be cleared by small groups and, in optimal conditions, potentially duoed by high-level players.

How to prepare if you want at least one fusion

The Fusion Energy requirements are the main constraint, especially in a three-hour window. A practical approach is to target one form first and treat the other as a bonus.

Step 1: Decide whether you care more about Black Kyurem (Freeze Shock route, generally better overall dragon/ice hybrid) or White Kyurem (Ice Burn route, extremely strong pure ice role). This choice shapes which half-hour rotations you prioritize.

Step 2: Before the event, make sure you have at least one usable Reshiram and Zekrom with enough candy (30 of each type) so you do not have to burn raid time on them unless you also want better IVs or shinies.

Step 3: During the event, focus your in-person passes on Black Kyurem in the first 30 minutes of each hour if you want Volt Fusion Energy, and on White Kyurem in the second 30 minutes of each hour if you want Blaze Fusion Energy.

Step 4: If you are using Remote Raid Passes, consider chaining time zones: raid locally during your own three-hour window, then remote into later regions still within their 2:00–5:00 p.m. window to top up Energy, keeping the 20-remote limit in mind.

Step 5: When you finally have a Kyurem with Glaciate and 1,000 Energy of the type you need, fuse carefully. Because the fused form is fully determined by Kyurem’s stats and shiny status, it is worth waiting for a high-IV or shiny Kyurem before spending your Energy.

Kyurem Fusion Raid Day compresses a lot of power progression into three hours: shiny hunts for the entire Tao trio, multiple signature moves, and the only way to earn Volt and Blaze Fusion Energy. With a plan that targets Black or White Kyurem first, a stocked raid pass inventory, and a few strong Dragon and Steel attackers, it becomes a straightforward path to two of the strongest ice-leaning Legendaries in the game.
