Requirements to use Mystery Gift in Pokémon Legends Z-A
You must unlock the Mystery Gift feature before you can redeem any of these distributions.
Step 1: Play the main story until Main Mission 3, titled “A New Life in Lumiose City”. Reaching this point usually takes around an hour if you focus on the main objectives.
Step 2: During this mission, go to the Pokémon Research Lab and speak to Mable in her office. Once this conversation is complete, Mable’s Research unlocks and a new “Link Play” option is added to the X-button main menu.
How to redeem Mystery Gifts via internet (no code)
Gifts such as Project M, Diancite, and Ralts with Gardevoirite are claimed directly over the internet without entering a code. An active internet connection is required, but a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is not.
Step 1: Press X to open the main menu, then select Link Play.
Step 2: Choose Mystery Gift and wait for the game to connect online.
Step 3: Select Get via Internet. A list of all currently available internet distributions will appear, including item sets, Pokémon, and side missions tied to Mega Stones.
Step 4: Highlight one distribution at a time and confirm to download it. Items are delivered to your bag, Pokémon go to your party or Boxes, and some distributions also add a side mission to your mission list.
Step 5: After each download, use the Check Mystery Gifts option in the same menu to confirm that the distribution has been received on that save file.
Each internet distribution can only be claimed once per save file. If a particular gift does not appear in the list, it has either expired or has already been claimed on that save.
How to redeem Mystery Gift codes and serial codes
The shared code PREPAR1NG and any unique serial codes from purchases are entered through the same menu. As with online gifts, you need an internet connection but not a paid online subscription.
Step 1: Press X to open the main menu and select Link Play.
Step 2: Choose Mystery Gift and allow the game to connect to the internet.
Step 3: Select Get with Code/Password. This is used for global shared codes such as PREPAR1NG and for unique serial codes sent by email for the digital version and Mega Dimension DLC.
Step 4: Carefully enter the code exactly as printed, matching all letters and numbers, then confirm. The game validates the code and, if it is valid, unexpired, and unused on that save file, the associated items will be delivered immediately.
Step 5: Open Check Mystery Gifts in the same menu to verify the reward, then confirm the new items or Pokémon in your bag or Boxes.
If you see an error, the usual reasons are a typo, an already-used code on that save, or an expired promotion. Shared codes such as PREPAR1NG can be used exactly once per save, while purchase serial codes are unique to each account and also one-time use.
How to confirm a Pokémon Legends Z-A Mystery Gift worked
After redeeming any distribution, you can confirm that it worked in three ways:
- Use Link Play → Mystery Gift → Check Mystery Gifts to see a list of all claimed distributions on the current save file.
- Open your bag and check the relevant pockets for increased counts of items such as Max Revives, Full Restore, Ultra Balls, or Poké Balls.
- Open your Boxes and party to locate gifted Pokémon such as Ralts, and check your mission list for new side missions like Project M or Shine Bright like a Gemstone tied to Mewtwo and Diancie.
As long as the distribution appears under Check Mystery Gifts and the associated items or Pokémon are present in your save, the Mystery Gift redemption is complete.
