How to unlock Mystery Gift in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Step 1: Play the main story until Main Mission 3: A New Life in Lumiose City. This is roughly one hour of play if you stay on the main path.
Step 2: During that mission, go to the Pokémon Research Lab and speak to Mable in her office on the upper floor. After this conversation, Mable's Research unlocks and the Link Play option is added to your X-button menu.
How to redeem Mystery Gift codes
All Mystery Gifts require an active internet connection, but they do not require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Each gift can only be claimed once per save file.
Redeeming gifts via internet (no code)
Step 1: Press X to open the main menu, then select Link Play.
Step 2: Choose Mystery Gift and wait for the game to connect online.
Step 3: Select Get via Internet. The game will display all currently available internet gifts such as Project M, Diancite, and the early-purchase Ralts with Gardevoirite.
Step 4: Highlight a gift and confirm to download it. Some gifts also add a side mission to your log; others deliver items or Pokémon directly to your bag, Box, or party.
Successful redemption is confirmed by a gift box animation and a message stating that the gift has been received. The entry will then appear under Check Mystery Gifts in the same menu.
Redeeming Mystery Gift codes and serial codes
Step 1: Press X to open the main menu and select Link Play.
Step 2: Choose Mystery Gift and allow the game to connect to the internet.
Step 3: Select Get with Code/Password. This option is used for the shared code PREPAR1NG and for unique serial codes sent by email for digital purchases and DLC.
Step 4: Enter the code exactly as shown, matching all letters and numbers, then confirm. The game will validate the code and, if it is valid and unused on this save file, deliver the associated items.
Once redeemed, the reward is logged under Check Mystery Gifts. If the code is invalid, expired, already used on that save, or entered with a typo, you will receive an error message and no gift.
How to confirm a Mystery Gift worked
After claiming a gift, use one of the following checks:
- Open the Link Play → Mystery Gift → Check Mystery Gifts menu to see a list of all claimed distributions.
- For item packs such as PREPAR1NG, open your bag and check the relevant item sections for the new counts.
- For Pokémon gifts like Ralts or Mewtwo, inspect your Boxes and party, and check for any new side missions added to your mission list.
