Rofleemo are small, companion creatures that live on your train and boost the stations you assign them to. They’re rescued from amber at depots, need their own beds, and thrive when fed and surrounded by a bit of decor. Managed well, they can cut crafting times, lower fuel use, and sometimes produce bonus items.
Unlock and adopt Rofleemo (amber, unpacker, first bed)
- At depots, look for a heavy amber “lump” on a pedestal. Carry it to the nearby green extraction (unpacker) machine and activate it to free a Rofleemo.
- Story progression awards the first Rofleemo and the materials to build its bed via a quest. After that, you’ll find more Rofleemo in amber at future depots.
- Bring a freed Rofleemo aboard by picking it up and placing it at an empty Rofleemo’s Bed on your train.
Rofleemo can be picked up and inspected at any time. From the creature menu you can feed them, see their happiness and perks, assign them to stations, or dismiss them.
Build and place Rofleemo beds (recipe and placement limits)
Each Rofleemo needs its own bed. The basic recipe is simple:
| Rofleemo’s Bed | Materials |
|---|---|
| Bed (1) | 2 Wood, 1 Bolts, 1 Leather |
- Beds can be built anywhere on the train except the locomotive (the first wagon with the engine).
- You can place only one bed per wagon platform/section. If a platform is fully occupied by a large module, you won’t be able to add a bed there.
- Base bed capacity depends on your engine; Sleeping Bag technologies add further capacity, with a maximum of 12 beds when running a Diesel engine with all Sleeping Bag techs installed.
| Engine | Base bed limit |
|---|---|
| Trolley | 2 |
| Steam Engine | 4 |
| Diesel Engine | 8 |
Tip: If you can’t place a bed even with space available, check whether you’re trying to add a second bed to the same platform, or building in the locomotive wagon.
Assign jobs and station bonuses
Rofleemo only provide their bonuses when assigned to an appropriate workstation. Interact with a station (smelter, workbench, lab, kitchen, engine, etc.) to open the worker assignment screen, then select the Rofleemo to staff it.
- Bonuses are tied to the station type. For example, lab perks affect lab crafting, kitchen perks affect cooking, and engine perks affect fuel usage.
- Some stations display happiness thresholds that unlock additional production or resource effects. Keep the assigned Rofleemo happy to benefit.
Tip: The “Job Change” debuff applies if you reassign a Rofleemo while away from a depot; it temporarily blocks one happiness point for five minutes.
Happiness points, mushrooms, and decor
Happiness points (shown as mushroom icons) gate which perks can be active for a Rofleemo and the station it works at.
- Empty icons are available points. Feed Mushrooms to fill them.
- Locked icons are blocked by debuffs (see below). Clear the debuff to unlock the point.
- Mushroom Salad grants an additional happiness point (shown separately) that works like a normal point.
Where to get Mushrooms: Chests from “witch island” puzzle altars commonly contain Mushrooms alongside other loot. Feed them directly to a Rofleemo to boost happiness; you can also unlock extra happiness capacity via Mushroom Salad.
Tip: A floating flowerpot icon above a Rofleemo indicates the “No decor (Ugly)” debuff. Place lights and floor decor near its bed to clear it.
Debuffs that block happiness (and how to clear them)
| Debuff | Effect | How to remove |
|---|---|---|
| Hunger | Blocks 2 happiness points | Feed the Rofleemo, or build Rofleemo’s Diner on your train |
| No decor (Ugly) | Blocks 2 points | Place decor objects near the bed; use both lights and floor items if it doesn’t register |
| Job Change | Blocks 1 point | Wait 5 minutes (applies when reassigning outside a depot) |
| No bed | Blocks 2 points | Build a Rofleemo’s Bed |
| Dirty | Blocks 1 point | Clean the train floor or let the Cleaner’s Station handle it |
| Soiled | Blocks 1 point | Build a Toilet |

Feeding and upkeep (leaving depots, cooked vs. raw)
- Each time you leave a depot, every Rofleemo consumes one unit of food automatically. Keeping cooked organics in storage covers this.
- If there’s no cooked food available, they’ll draw from raw organics instead, and consume twice as much to compensate.
- Consistent feeding removes the Hunger debuff and restores two happiness points.
Tip: Scaling up to the bed limit means a large food draw when departing depots. A staffed kitchen plus Nutritionist/Chef perks can keep provisions under control.
Small quality-of-life details
- Rofleemo bonuses apply only when they’re assigned to the matching station type. Reassign through the station’s worker menu.
- Decor matters. Wall lights and floor rugs near a bed are a reliable way to clear “No decor (Ugly).”
- Some large modules occupy an entire platform and can block bed placement on that section. Plan your layout so each platform you want to staff has room for a bed.
Once beds are placed and happiness is managed, Rofleemo become quiet force multipliers across your train: faster smelts and crafts, lighter fuel bills, and occasional bonus outputs that add up over a long run.
