Where Winds Meet: Social Butterfly quiz answer, Daily Topic timing, and the “Unlock Kaifeng” glitch

The “Social Butterfly” flow in Where Winds Meet can feel like three separate systems colliding: a short prize quiz with a lore-heavy prompt, a rotating “Daily Topic” objective tied to the in-game paper, and an event task that may appear even if Kaifeng is already open.

Social Butterfly prize quiz: Imperial Medical Academy answer

The quiz prompt that asks, “Who charges an apricot flower for medical treatment at the Imperial Medical Academy?” expects a character name.

The correct answer is Shang Lu.

Daily Topic quest: why it sometimes won’t progress

The Daily Topic objective appears to rotate with the prize quiz rather than running alongside it. When the paper is showing a prize quiz, the Daily Topic may not be available to complete on that same day.

If you’re attempting actions that seem related (for example, trying a draw outcome or doing a Sword Trial) and nothing updates, the issue may simply be that the paper is on its quiz rotation and the Daily Topic won’t accept progress until the next reset.

“Unlock Kaifeng” event task: common behavior and a simple workaround

Some players see an event quest labeled “Unlock Kaifeng” even after Kaifeng has been unlocked for a while. A common symptom is clicking the task, receiving a brief completion message, and then seeing the task remain unchecked.

A restart has been reported to resolve the stuck state.

Step 1: Click the “Unlock Kaifeng” task once to trigger its completion message, if it appears.

Step 2: Fully restart the game and re-enter your character to see if the task updates and checks off.

Butterflies: how the game expects you to interact with them

Butterflies act as a guiding mechanic that leads you to a point of interest, often ending in a small reward like experience and currency, sometimes paired with a short lore moment. The core interaction is simple: follow them as they move and pause, then interact with what they lead you to. Some routes may ask for an extra action at the destination, such as lighting incense or completing a small task.

Different colors can behave differently in the world. One example is a shrine interaction where you collect a specific number of red butterflies; once all required butterflies are gathered, the shrine opens and a chest can appear inside. Blue butterflies may point you toward a nearby secret area rather than marching you straight to a single interactable endpoint, and golden butterflies can lead you to a vantage point and trigger a cutscene before rewarding you.

Oddities and purple butterflies

Oddities are collectibles used to increase your Melodies of Peace level, which is a skill tree that grants stat increases such as physical attack. Oddities are color-coded, emit a glow, and show an icon on the mini-map when you’re close.

One Oddity type, Enchanting Lotus, is tied to butterfly combat: you defeat the purple butterflies nearby before you can collect it.
