Wuthering Waves 3.1 Preload: Storage Requirements and Download Sizes

Wuthering Waves 3.1 launches February 5, 2026, and the preload is already available. Before downloading, you need to know how much storage space the update actually requires—because the preload size and the total space you need are not the same thing.

Quick answer: PC requires 40 GB free space for the 35 GB preload; mobile (Android/iOS) requires 61 GB free space for the 16 GB preload; Mac and fresh installs need 150 GB.

PC preload and storage

The 3.1 update file itself is 35 GB on PC. However, you need at least 40 GB of free space on your drive before starting the preload. This extra buffer accounts for temporary files created during decompression and installation after maintenance ends.

Installing on an SSD is strongly recommended. If your drive is nearly full, clear space first—the preload will fail if you don't have the full 40 GB available when the update launches and begins decompressing.

Mobile preload and storage

Android and iOS users need to clear 61 GB of free space to safely preload the 16 GB update. The gap between the download size and required space exists because the game needs room to decompress and reorganize files during installation.

After maintenance completes and the update finalizes, the game will automatically free up this temporary space, and your total game size will stabilize. If you have less than 61 GB available, wait until after the update launches and the decompression finishes—then the space requirement will drop back to the final installed size.

Fresh install requirements

If you're downloading the game for the first time after 3.1 releases, you'll need significantly more space. A fresh install requires 70 GB on mobile devices and 150 GB on both PC and Mac. These figures include all assets and no temporary decompression overhead, so the space is permanent once installation completes.

PS5 storage

PlayStation 5 players should ensure sufficient available storage before attempting the update. Sony's system requires free space equal to the update size plus a buffer for the installation process, though the exact requirement depends on your current game version and console storage configuration.

How to check your available space

On PC: Right-click your game drive in File Explorer, select Properties, and check the free space listed at the bottom. If you're using an external drive, verify it has the required space before launching the preload.

On mobile: Go to Settings > Storage (or Storage and Cache on some devices) to see how much free space remains. If you're below 61 GB, delete unused apps or media to make room.

On PS5: Navigate to Settings > Storage, then check the available space under your internal SSD or external drive.

Preload timing and what happens next

Preload began February 3, 2026, and runs until maintenance ends on February 5 at 11:00 AM (UTC+8). Once maintenance completes, the game will automatically decompress the preloaded files—this process happens in the background and does not require manual action.

During this decompression window, you may see temporary storage spikes as the game rewrites and reorganizes files. Do not interrupt the process or close the game launcher. If decompression fails due to insufficient space, you'll need to free additional storage and restart the launcher.
