A Drink With a Stranger (Ghost of Yotei) — Detailed quest guide
Ghost of YoteiFollow a quick cliff climb to retrieve the Repunkur Canteen, then grab the Unyielding Tempest sword kit on your way back.

A Drink With a Stranger is a short Tale in the Yotei Grasslands that takes you to the Southern Coast for a simple climb-and-return. The job: recover an Ainu merchant’s lost drink canteen — the Repunkur Canteen — from a ledge below, then bring it back to finish the quest. There’s also an easy detour on the return path to pick up the Unyielding Tempest sword kit from a nearby Pillar of the Fallen.

How to start the Tale
Ride to the Southern Coast of the Yotei Grasslands, below Lake Kuttara and Tranquil Falls. Look for a small camp on the cliffs with an elderly Ainu merchant. After a short conversation, you’ll learn Saito’s men tossed his sake over the edge. The quest begins once you agree to climb down and retrieve it.

Climb route to the Repunkur Canteen (step-by-step)
- At the cliff edge near the campsite, press
R2
to drop over the ledge, then descend to the fallen torch below.

- Jump across to the exposed tree branch jutting from the cliffside.

- Hop onward to the grassy ledge opposite the branch.

- Walk the narrow wooden beam ahead to line up your next jump.

- Continue to the two branches in sequence — jump to the first, then the second.

- From the second branch, leap forward and press
R2
to grapple onto the tree stump above.

- Pull up to the small platform and collect the Repunkur Canteen.

Return via the upper shortcut and grab the sword kit
With the canteen in hand, turn right and climb higher. This upper path loops back to safe ground so you don’t have to reverse the entire route. Along this shortcut you’ll reach a Pillar of the Fallen that overlooks the ocean — interact with it to claim the Unyielding Tempest sword kit before you top out on the cliffs.

Turn-in and what you keep
Head back to the Ainu merchant at the campsite and hand over the keepsake to complete the Tale. The Repunkur Canteen counts as an Ainu Item, one of the game’s rare collectible sets found across Ezo. The sword kit from the Pillar of the Fallen is purely cosmetic and remains unlocked after you leave the area.

Why this Tale is worth a detour
- It’s quick: a short, straightforward climb with clear traversal anchors.
- It advances collectibles: the Repunkur Canteen adds to your Ainu Items.
- It bundles a style reward: Unyielding Tempest is on the return path, costing virtually no extra time.
That’s the full route. If you’re sweeping the Yotei Grasslands early, this Tale is an easy pickup that feeds two collections and gets you back to the main hunt in minutes.
