Abyss Fish Pond unlock and roe rules explained

The Fish Pond in Abyss is a personal pond space where stored fish generate Roe over time. The feature is locked behind a level check and a short NPC interaction, and it only works once Teleporter access is already available.

Quick answer: Reach Level 15, talk to The Guy in Forgotten Deep, complete his prompt, then use the Teleporter’s fish icon to enter your Fish Pond.

Fish Pond unlock trigger

The unlock condition is simple. Your character must be Level 15, and you must speak to The Guy in Forgotten Deep. After accepting and completing his basic quest prompt, the Fish Pond becomes available through the Teleporter.

The Guy is placed near the Tube shop area in Forgotten Deep. Once the unlock works, the locked fish icon tied to the pond no longer stays locked on the map, and the Teleporter gains a fish destination you can select.

The Teleporter is a hard requirement. If you are already Level 15 but still cannot enter the Fish Pond, the usual reason is that Teleporter access is not unlocked yet.

How to know the Fish Pond unlocked

You can verify the unlock in two ways. First, the fish icon in Forgotten Deep stops showing as locked. Second, the Teleporter menu shows a fish destination, and traveling there does not cost money.

If both of those things happen, the unlock is complete. You do not need a separate paid transport step for the Fish Pond.

How the Fish Pond works

Once you arrive, you get a personal pond that can hold fish and produce Roe passively. At the start, the pond accepts up to six fish. You open the pond interface, place eligible fish into its slots, and then wait for Roe production timers to finish.

Production is not the same for every fish. Heavier, rarer, and later-game fish produce better Roe, but they also take longer. Lower-value fish can produce very small amounts more quickly, while stronger fish can generate much heavier Roe on longer timers.

Roe production continues over time and also progresses while offline. That makes the Fish Pond a passive income system rather than an active fishing loop.

Fish that can and cannot be placed in the Fish Pond

Fish type Fish Pond status
Common to Legendary fish Can be placed
Fish that drop head and meat Cannot be placed
Whale Cannot be placed
Mythical fish Cannot be placed

Roe production rules

Roe normally appears on timers that sit in the rough 5 to 10 minute range, though individual fish can vary. The pond interface shows the next Roe timing per fish, and the result changes with weight, species, and rarity.

That means two fish in the same pond can behave very differently. One basic fish may produce a small amount quickly, while a stronger fish may take longer and return much more Roe by weight.

When Roe is ready, you collect it from the pond and sell it. The value scales upward with better fish, especially when the fish is heavier, rarer, or mutated.

Sea Feed effects in the Fish Pond

Sea Feed speeds up Roe production. Jonathan sells feed at the Fish Pond, and the shop uses a stock system rather than permanent unlimited selection.

Two baseline feed effects are confirmed in the pond system. One feed gives a 5 percent speed increase for 15 minutes. Another gives a stronger speed increase for a longer duration. There is also a lower-tier and higher-tier feed split in the pond shop, with stronger feed intended to cut production time more aggressively or last longer.

Feed Effect
Algae Feed 5% faster Roe production
Fish Feed 10% faster Roe production
Higher-tier feed example Up to 30% faster for 1 hour

The active feed button in the pond interface shows when a feed bonus is running. If you want tighter collection cycles, that is the setting to watch.

Where to sell Roe

Roe is sold back to The Guy at the Fish Pond. Once harvested, bring it to his sell point in the central area and cash it out there.

The more valuable the fish in your pond, the more valuable the Roe tends to be. Fish from later areas also push Roe value higher, which is why the system rewards storing better catches rather than filling the pond with only low-end fish.

Fish Pond upgrades

Bobert handles upgrades at the Fish Pond. The upgrade set focuses on capacity, storage, and output speed.

Upgrade Effect
Fish Capacity Raises the number of fish your pond can hold
Roe Storage Raises how much Roe the pond can store before filling up
Decoration Increases Roe production speed

One early Fish Capacity upgrade raises capacity from 6 to 8 and costs $25,000. If your goal is to make the pond more useful while offline, Roe Storage matters because production can keep going when you are away. If your goal is faster cycles, Decoration is the speed upgrade to watch.

Why the Fish Pond sometimes seems not to work

The most common failure points are straightforward. If the pond does not unlock, you are usually missing Level 15, the interaction with The Guy, or Teleporter access. If the pond unlocks but produces nothing, the usual issue is that no eligible fish have been placed into the slots yet.

There is also a hard eligibility limit on fish types. Whale, Mythical fish, and fish that drop head and meat do not belong in the pond, so they will not function as pond stock.

If you can enter the Fish Pond, see your named pond, place eligible fish, and watch the Roe timer appear in the interface, the system is working as intended.

The Fish Pond is best understood as a background money system. Unlock it at Level 15, route through the Teleporter, stock it with eligible fish, use feed when you want shorter timers, and sell Roe to The Guy before storage fills up.
