Arc Raiders: A New Type of Plant quest guide

A New Type Of Plant is one of Lance’s early quests in Arc Raiders, and it is built around a single task: grab a strange orange plant from the Dam Battlegrounds map and bring it back to Speranza in one piece. The objectives must be done in a single raid, and there are a few easy ways to mess that up if you are not paying attention to extraction or to how quest items work.

Quest overview and requirements

Element Details
Quest name A New Type Of Plant
Quest giver Lance (in Speranza)
Location Dam Battlegrounds > Old Battleground
Key landmark Baron Husk (giant fallen ARC)
Main item Possibly Toxic Plant
Objective condition Complete “In One Round”
Rewards 1× Vita Shot, 5× Antiseptic
Quest chain Follows Building A Library, precedes Armored Transports

The quest has two explicit objectives that must both be fulfilled within a single raid:

  • Search for the new plant near the Baron Husk in the Old Battleground.
  • Deliver the Possibly Toxic Plant to Lance.

“Deliver” in this context means extracting from Dam Battlegrounds while the item is in your inventory and then handing the quest in back in Speranza.

Preparing your loadout for Dam Battlegrounds

The mission itself is short, but failing it wastes a raid. A basic prep checklist helps:

Category Recommendation
Loadout type Either a free loadout or your regular kit; free is fine if you plan to extract as soon as the item is secured.
Weapons Reliable primary focused on fighting other raiders; ARC density near the plant is lower than around extraction lifts.
Healing Carry enough healing items to survive a couple of engagements on the way to and from the Baron Husk.
Safe pocket Bring an augment or gear setup that gives you a safe pocket to protect the quest item from being lost on death.
Tip: Since the objective only asks for a single plant, it makes sense to keep your raid focused. Grab the item, move to the closest extraction, and avoid unnecessary fights around high-traffic points if you are only there to finish the quest.

How to reach the Baron Husk in Old Battleground

Once the quest is active, queue into Dam Battlegrounds. The plant is always tied to one small region:

  • Open the tactical map and locate Old Battleground on the far western side.
  • Set a path straight toward the icon for the Baron Husk, a huge scrapped ARC lying in the area.

The Baron Husk is hard to miss: it is a massive metallic wreck dominating the Old Battleground skyline. Foot traffic here is usually lighter than around central lifts, but it is still smart to approach cautiously in case other squads had the same idea.

The Baron Husk itself can be breached and looted, but triggering the breach throws fire and signals your position to nearby ARC units and raiders. If your only goal is the plant and a quick extract, it is safer to leave the husk alone unless you are confident in your ability to clear any response.

Identifying and harvesting the Possibly Toxic Plant

The quest item is tied to a set of new plants growing around the Baron Husk.

Detail Description
Spawn area Directly around the Baron Husk in Old Battleground; multiple plants can appear in this small zone.
Visual look Plant with bright orange blooms; shape is similar to the Great Mullein used in Lance’s Doctor’s Orders quest, but the color stands out.
Interaction Walk up to a plant and hold the interact button to “gather” it.
Dropped item Gathering spawns the Possibly Toxic Plant item on the ground.
Amount needed Only one plant is required to complete the quest.

There are two easy mistakes here:

  • Interacting with the plant, but not picking up the item that drops.
  • Expecting to gather several quest items yourself. You only get one interaction, and that is enough.

After interacting, look down and confirm the Possibly Toxic Plant is on the ground, then manually loot it into your inventory. Only once it is in your bag (and ideally in your safe pocket) should you leave the area.

Keeping the plant safe and choosing an extraction route

With the plant secured, the second half of the “In One Round” condition is simply to survive extraction.

Step What to do
Secure the item Move the Possibly Toxic Plant into your safe pocket so it cannot be lost if you are killed before extracting.
Pick an exit From Old Battleground, head toward nearby extraction options such as the Central Swamp lift to the east.
Consider alternatives If you have a Raider Hatch Key, a Raider Hatch north of the area can offer a different extraction option.
Movement style Advance slowly and use cover near lifts; these are common ambush points for other raiders and patrolling ARC.

Areas around major lifts are usually much busier than the Old Battleground itself. Treat the final approach like a high-risk zone: watch angles, listen for other players calling extraction, and do not be afraid to back off and reposition if another team gets there first.

Turning the quest in to Lance

Once you have extracted from Dam Battlegrounds with the Possibly Toxic Plant in your possession, the rest is straightforward:

  • Return to Speranza after the raid ends.
  • Talk to Lance and complete A New Type Of Plant.
  • Receive your rewards: 1× Vita Shot and 5× Antiseptic.

Antiseptic is especially useful because it is required to upgrade the Medical Lab to Level 3, so this quest does more than simply tick a box in Lance’s chain. It sets up a key progression step for your base facilities.

Known issues and what to do if the quest breaks

A small number of players run into problems when something interrupts the “In One Round” flow. Typical patterns look like this:

  • You gather the plant, start moving to extraction, and the game or your system disconnects or powers off.
  • When you return, the objective that involves searching near the Baron Husk is marked complete.
  • The plants around the Baron Husk are visible again, but cannot be interacted with, and you do not have a plant item to extract with.

In these cases, normal replays of Dam Battlegrounds will not fix the problem because the quest logic thinks you have already done the first half, but does not give you a way to redo the pickup inside a single round.

The only reliable remedy in this situation is to contact Embark Studios’ support through the account you use for Arc Raiders. Support staff have already been resolving these cases by manually advancing or completing A New Type Of Plant on affected accounts. If the quest appears completed but rewards cannot be claimed, you may need to reply to the same ticket so they can clear the state a second time.

Note: If you are not bugged, you can still fail the quest by dying with the plant outside your safe pocket or by extracting without ever picking up the dropped item. In those normal failures, simply load back into Dam Battlegrounds and repeat the steps: go to Old Battleground, interact with an orange plant, pick up the item, stash it safely, and extract.

The mission is intentionally simple: reach a single landmark, identify a visually distinct plant, and leave with it. Treat Old Battleground as the quiet part of the raid and your chosen extraction lift as the real challenge, and A New Type Of Plant becomes an easy way to earn consumables and keep Lance’s questline moving.
