Scrappy, the mechanical rooster in Arc Raiders, quietly solves one of the game’s biggest problems: running out of basic crafting parts. While you raid, he hoards Metal Parts, Fabric, Plastic Parts, Chemicals, Rubber Parts, and Seeds in the background. The higher his level, the faster that passive income piles up.
Maxing Scrappy to level 5 is a straight resource puzzle. You’re not guessing what to do; you’re fighting other raiders and ARC patrols for a handful of fruits and household junk. The key is knowing exactly what you need, which maps to hit, and when to use global events like Lush Blooms and Night Mode to compress hours of farming into a few efficient runs.
Scrappy upgrade requirements (levels 1–5)
Scrappy is upgraded from the Workshop in your room: interact with his icon, then choose Train when you have the required items. Each level only needs to be paid for once.
| Level | Items required | Total running count |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | None | – |
| 2 | Dog Collar ×1 | Dog Collar ×1 |
| 3 | Lemons ×3, Apricots ×3 | Dog Collar ×1, Lemons ×3, Apricots ×3 |
| 4 | Prickly Pears ×6, Olives ×6, Cat Bed ×1 | Dog Collar ×1, Lemons ×3, Apricots ×3, Prickly Pears ×6, Olives ×6, Cat Bed ×1 |
| 5 (max) | Mushrooms ×12, Apricots ×12, Very Comfortable Pillows ×3 |
Dog Collar ×1, Lemons ×3, Apricots ×15 total, Prickly Pears ×6, Olives ×6, Cat Bed ×1, Mushrooms ×12, Very Comfortable Pillows ×3 |
That shopping list is why players talk about “fruit runs” and “pillow hell.” The way to stay sane is to group objectives by map and lean hard on Lush Blooms and Night Mode events.
Use global events to cut the grind
| Event | Effect | Why it matters for Scrappy |
|---|---|---|
| Lush Blooms | Massively boosts Nature-category loot and spawns fruit baskets around the map. | Fastest way to bulk-farm Lemons, Apricots, Prickly Pears, Olives, and Mushrooms. |
| Night Mode | Increases overall loot density in containers. | Great window for Dog Collars, Cat Beds, and Very Comfortable Pillows. |
On the map-select screen, each region can show an active modifier icon. When the icon is Lush Blooms, that map is temporarily flooded with Nature loot and, crucially, fruit baskets. These small wicker containers can drop multiple units of a single fruit and often mix several types at once. Two or three good baskets can deliver most of a level’s requirement in one raid.
Night Mode doesn’t help with trees or cacti, but it does noticeably improve the yield from drawers, lockers, and cabinets in Residential and Commercial buildings. That’s the perfect time to chase the Dog Collar, Cat Bed, and Very Comfortable Pillows without needing dozens of empty apartment sweeps.
Dog Collar locations (Scrappy level 2)
The first wall most players hit is the Dog Collar. It’s a Residential trinket that hides in normal containers, and it’s rarer than the simple description suggests.
| Region | Best areas to search | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dam Battlegrounds | Pale Apartments, Ruby Residence (north-west) | Good early-game choice; low traffic on map edge. |
| Buried City | Santa Maria Houses, Plaza Rosa, Grandioso Apartments | Dense Residential blocks; strong odds during Night Mode. |
| The Blue Gate | Village, Raider's Refuge, Ruined Homestead, Abandoned Housing Project | Also Residential/Commercial, but higher overall danger. |
| Spaceport | – | Dog Collars are very unlikely here. |
Open every locker, drawer, and cabinet you see in these zones. The Collar can also appear in breachable containers inside powered shacks, especially around swampy areas. Because you only ever need one, put it in your safe pocket the moment you see it and leave the raid the first safe chance you get.
Lemons and Apricots (Scrappy level 3 and part of level 5)
Lemons and Apricots come from small fruit trees you interact with: approach them until you see the prompt, then “shake” or “kick” the tree to knock fruit onto the ground. Some fruit also spawns at the base of the trunk.
| Fruit | Needed | Best maps | Key zones |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lemons | 3 (level 3) | The Blue Gate, Buried City, Spaceport |
Olive Grove, Village, Ruined Homestead (Blue Gate); Marano Park (Buried City); Staff Parking, East Plains (Spaceport) |
| Apricots | 3 (level 3) + 12 (level 5) = 15 | Dam Battlegrounds, The Blue Gate, Buried City, Spaceport |
Red Lakes (Dam Battlegrounds); Olive Grove, Village (Blue Gate); Marano Park (Buried City); East Plains (Spaceport) |
There’s one hard rule: Dam Battlegrounds doesn’t naturally spawn Lemons. The only exception is when the Dam is under a Lush Blooms modifier, which can add fruit baskets to the Hydroponics Dome Complex and some camps. For a reliable early Lemon run, go straight to one of these instead:
- Olive Grove (The Blue Gate) – Dense with both Lemon and Apricot trees, plus Olive trees. Also, one of the hottest PvE/PvP zones in the game.
- Marano Park (Buried City) – A city-park square with both fruit types, but surrounded by popular buildings and often watched.
- Staff Parking (Spaceport) – Fewer players, lower ARC pressure, good starter Lemon spot once the map is unlocked.
For Apricots specifically, Dam’s Red Lakes on the east side are the calmest farm: small islands covered in Apricot trees, away from the main fight, but still in sight of Research & Admin and Testing Annex snipers. The same Red Lakes run also sets you up for Prickly Pears later.
Prickly Pears, Olives, and Cat Bed (Scrappy level 4)
Level 4 is where the materials start to overlap, and smart routing saves a lot of time.
| Item | Amount | Best maps | Where to look |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prickly Pears | 6 | Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport |
Around cacti in Red Lakes and Victory Ridge (Dam); extreme south, below Plaza Rosa (Buried City); east of Container Storage (Spaceport) |
| Olives | 6 | The Blue Gate only | Olive Grove, Checkpoint (south-west), Village fields |
| Cat Bed | 1 | Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, The Blue Gate |
Residential/Commercial containers in Ruby Residence, Pale Apartments (Dam); Santa Maria Houses, Plaza Rosa, Grandioso Apartments (Buried City); Village, Raider's Refuge, Ruined Homestead, Abandoned Housing Project (Blue Gate) |
Prickly Pears don’t come from tree interactions. They’re loose on the sand around cacti. You simply walk up and pick them up if they’ve spawned. No cactus shaking, and no guarantee that any given cactus has fruit.
- Dam Battlegrounds – Red Lakes and the area north of the Hydroponic Dome Complex (Victory Ridge) have the highest concentration; it’s common to pull one or two Pears per full loop.
- Buried City – The very bottom edge of the map, south of Plaza Rosa, is quieter and packed with cacti.
- Spaceport – Scattered spawns east of Container Storage, but not as efficient as the Dam.
Olives are largely monopolized by The Blue Gate. The same Olive Grove that powers your Lemon and Apricot runs also has bigger Olive trees: pale foliage, one Olive often on the ground, another that drops when you kick the tree. Additional Olive trees sit in the fields of the Village and in the Checkpoint’s southwest corner, but everything in this region is exposed, with long sightlines and plenty of ARC patrols.
For Olives, the “naked run” strategy is usually worth it: go in with no gear except Adrenaline Shots and a safe pocket, sprint to Olive Grove, kick every big tree you can reach, and dump the haul straight into the safe pocket before attempting to extract. Dying mid-route is expected; the point is that the safe pocket keeps your fruit.
The Cat Bed is less painful. It’s flagged as both Residential and Commercial, so it shares spawn logic with other homeware trinkets and can appear in:
- Ruby Residence and Pale Apartments on Dam (safe early-game farm).
- Santa Maria Houses, Plaza Rosa, and Grandioso Apartments in Buried City’s Old Town.
- Village and nearby homesteads on The Blue Gate.
A particularly efficient route sits in Buried City’s hospital: on the northeast side of the building, the second-floor corridor ends in a room with about five lockers clustered together. Those lockers can roll Cat Beds and the pillows needed later. Run in with a free loadout or Adrenaline Shots, loot the room, then drop straight into the metro below for a fast extract. Repeating this loop during Night Mode is one of the most consistent ways to secure both one Cat Bed and three Very Comfortable Pillows.
Mushrooms, extra Apricots, and Very Comfortable Pillows (Scrappy level 5)
The last upgrade asks for more food and more comfort:
- Mushrooms ×12
- Apricots ×12 (on top of the 3 already used for level 3)
- Very Comfortable Pillows ×3
| Item | Best maps | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Mushrooms | Dam Battlegrounds |
Formicai Hills forest near Scrap Yard and Wreckage; western Swamp around fallen trunks and damp tunnels; southern Hydroponic Dome Complex dome (occasional) |
| Extra Apricots | Dam Battlegrounds, The Blue Gate, Buried City, Spaceport | Same spots as before, especially Red Lakes and Olive Grove. |
| Very Comfortable Pillows | Buried City, Dam Battlegrounds, The Blue Gate |
Santa Maria Houses, Plaza Rosa, Grandioso Apartments (Buried City); Ruby Residence, Pale Apartments (Dam); Village, Raider's Refuge, Ruined Homestead, Abandoned Housing Project (Blue Gate) |
Mushrooms are the real endgame slog. They’re large and easy to see, but they’re also contested and scattered. They spawn in damp, organic pockets rather than on visible “mushroom trees.” Typical patterns on Dam Battlegrounds:
- Formicai Hills – The southern forest near Scrap Yard and Wreckage has logs and dense undergrowth where Mushrooms often appear in clusters.
- Swamp – The huge wetland to the west hides Mushrooms around big fallen trunks and inside moist tunnel-like hollows. High density, but time-consuming to search and frequently patrolled.
- Hydroponic Dome Complex – The southernmost dome can occasionally grow Mushrooms along interior structures.
During Lush Blooms, Dam can also roll fruit baskets that include Mushrooms, dramatically cutting the number of open-field logs you need to check. When you’re hunting Mushrooms late-game, it’s worth burning normal gear and utility:
- Adrenaline Shots to chain sprint from spot to spot before others clear them.
- One strong primary, like Pharaoh or Anvil, to drop ARC mobs that block key logs or domes.
- Smoke grenades to break sightlines when extracting from swamp elevators or domes with other players nearby.
- Hatch keys, if you have them, to turn a two- or three-Mushroom run into a near-guaranteed extract.
For the extra 12 Apricots, you should rarely run a raid just for them if you followed earlier advice. Any time you pass Red Lakes, Marano Park, or Olive Grove, keep grabbing Apricots until your stash has at least 15. They’re light, they sell well, and you will eventually spend all of them on Scrappy.
Very Comfortable Pillows spawn anywhere Cat Beds do, but you need three instead of one. That changes the optimal route: instead of Dam, the best bet is Buried City’s Old Town, again focusing on Santa Maria Houses and Plaza Rosa. The hospital locker farm mentioned earlier is especially valuable because those lockers frequently roll both Cat Beds and Pillows in the same small footprint.

Efficient path to max-level Scrappy
When you put the individual farms together, a practical route to level 5 looks like this:
| Stage | Goal | Primary map | What to farm |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Unlock level 2 | Dam Battlegrounds / Buried City | Dog Collar ×1 from Pale Apartments, Ruby Residence or Old Town apartments. |
| 2 | Unlock level 3 | The Blue Gate + Dam Battlegrounds | In Olive Grove, grab Lemons ×3, Apricots ×3 (ideally Apricots ×15, Olives ×6 at the same time). |
| 3 | Set up level 4 | Dam Battlegrounds / Buried City / Blue Gate | Prickly Pears ×6 around Red Lakes and Victory Ridge; confirm you have Olives ×6; secure Cat Bed ×1 via hospital or apartment runs. |
| 4 | Start level 5 stockpile | Buried City Old Town | Very Comfortable Pillows ×3 and, if needed, additional Cat Beds from Santa Maria Houses, Plaza Rosa, Grandioso Apartments or hospital lockers. |
| 5 | Finish level 5 | Dam Battlegrounds | Mushrooms ×12 from Formicai Hills, Swamp, and domes; top up any missing Apricots from Red Lakes or Lush Blooms fruit baskets. |
Throughout the whole process, two habits pay off more than anything else:
- Always equip a safe pocket when entering high-conflict zones like Olive Grove, Marano Park, and the Swamp elevator area.
- Never leave Nature-rich areas (Red Lakes, Olive Grove, Marano Park) with free weight capacity; grab every fruit and Mushroom you see, even if you think you’re “done.” Extras convert into credits or future upgrade buffers.
Once Scrappy hits level 5, his collection box becomes a quiet backbone for the rest of your time in Arc Raiders: stacks of basic parts, a bit less pressure to strip every field depot, and more freedom to experiment with guns and builds instead of counting Rubber Parts. Just remember his one limit: when his internal storage fills, he stops gathering. Make a habit of emptying his box every time you return to base, and the little rooster will keep paying you back all season.
