Scrappy is more than a mascot in ARC Raiders. Train him and he’ll quietly bring back crafting materials after each raid you run, even if you fail to extract. Upgrading him early reduces time spent hunting basics so you can focus on higher-value loot.

Train Scrappy at the Workshop

You upgrade Scrappy from the Workshop: select Scrappy, then choose Train to see the next tier’s requirements. Upgrades are sequential; you must complete Tier 2 before Tier 3 becomes available, and so on. The training screen also shows exactly what you still need and will track those items in your inventory UI.

Tip: once you pick up a required item (like the Dog Collar), move it to your safe pocket before extracting so you don’t lose it on death.

Important: Scrappy only scavenges when you actually play a raid. He rolls for loot whether you survive or not, but idling in the hub won’t produce anything.

Scrappy upgrade tiers and materials

Tier (Level) Items required Where to look
Forager Scrappy (Lv. 2) Dog Collar ×1 (Rare) Residential areas; best from containers in apartments/houses
Scavenger Scrappy (Lv. 3) Lemons ×3, Apricots ×3 Nature areas; small fruit trees
Treasure Hunter Scrappy (Lv. 4) Prickly Pears ×6, Olives ×6, Cat Bed ×1 Nature areas for fruit; Cat Bed in residential/commercial containers
Master Hoarder Scrappy (Lv. 5) Apricots ×12, Mushrooms ×12, Very Comfortable Pillows ×3 Nature areas for apricots/mushrooms; Pillows in residential/commercial containers
Note: you’ll need 15 Apricots total across the full path (3 for Tier 3 and 12 for Tier 5), so grab extras when you see them.

Where to find each material (fast)

  • Dog Collar (Rare) — Loot containers in residential zones. You’ll have the best odds in apartments and houses. On maps with marked residential districts like Buried City or Spaceport, comb bins, cabinets, and desks. On the Dam map, spots such as Ruby Residence, Pale Apartments, and Pattern House are common targets.
  • Lemons and Apricots — Nature resources found on small fruit trees. The Hydroponic Dome Complex is a reliable cluster; any vegetation‑rich area with the leaf icon can spawn them.
  • Prickly Pears — Look near cacti in nature zones.
  • Olives — Spawns in the same nature‑heavy locations as other fruit nodes.
  • Mushrooms — Often growing on tree trunks in nature areas.
  • Cat Bed — Residential/commercial trinket from containers. Easy to accidentally sell; hold one for Tier 4.
  • Very Comfortable Pillows — Residential/commercial trinket from containers. High sell value, but you need three for Tier 5.

Event timing can help. Lush Bloom events boost fruit spawns, making it easier to stock up on Apricots, Lemons, Olives, and Prickly Pears. Outside those windows, expect to make a few extra raid loops to finish your lists.

What you gain from each upgrade

Each tier raises Scrappy’s contribution after raids, increasing the volume and quality of the basic materials he brings back. Because he delivers whether you extract or die, his haul cushions bad runs and smooths out early crafting bottlenecks.

If you’re just starting out, prioritize the Dog Collar to unlock Tier 2, then clear the nature tiers while you’re already farming fruit. Finish with residential/commercial trinkets for Tier 4 and Tier 5 when you have a stable route through apartments, shops, and admin buildings.
