Becoming Athena’s Chosen in Arcane Odyssey

Athena’s Chosen is one of the most involved titles in Arcane Odyssey. It is tied to the Book of Athena, a lore collection that lives inside your logbook as three question marks until you start filling it out.

Unlocking the title is less about a traditional quest and more about a long expedition into the Dark Sea. You hunt down scattered pages on Siren Islands, complete the Book of Athena, then locate a hidden statue island where Athena grants her blessing.

What Athena’s Chosen gives you

Reaching Athena’s statue does three things at once:

  • Athena’s Chosen title – Changes the color of your name in the player list, visually similar to the Epicenter Explorer title.
  • Athena’s blessing – Extends the duration of sensing on damaged targets by 50%, letting you track enemies for longer.
  • Athena’s Power imbuement – Grants a new spirit imbuement for Oracles that applies a light pink aura to spirit weapons and interacts with specific relics.

Athena’s Power currently has notable interactions with two relics:

Relic Imbue type Effect
Tide Stone Band Unstable +20% size, +2 drawback
Eagle Patrimony Synergy +15% power

No unstable or synergy effects are attached to other spirit weapons at the moment, although they still display the visual aura.

How the Book of Athena works

The Book of Athena is a lore artifact tied directly to the title. Its fragments are physical notes scattered across the Dark Sea.

  • There are 27 fragments in total.
  • Every fragment is found on a Siren Island in the Dark Sea.
  • Fragments do not appear on every Siren Island; they spawn randomly.

Once all 27 fragments are collected, the Book of Athena is considered complete and a special island with Athena’s statue becomes eligible to spawn somewhere in the Dark Sea. Interacting with that statue is what turns you into Athena’s Chosen.

Where to find Book of Athena pages

Pages only spawn on Siren Islands in the Dark Sea, so the entire process revolves around moving between those islands as quickly and safely as possible.

Each page appears as a bright, glowing note with a pulsing white aura on the island surface. In the low visibility of the Dark Sea, that glow makes them easy to spot if you sweep the island properly.

There are no additional prerequisites to start collecting; you can begin picking up fragments as soon as you are able to sail the Dark Sea and reach Siren Islands.

The grind is mostly about endurance. The faster and safer you move between Siren Islands, the sooner you finish.

  • Fast ship – Ship speed directly controls how many islands you can hit per hour. A build around 120 speed is already effective.
  • Warding gear – Aim for 2 Ward so you can suppress Insanity I effects. This makes navigation and combat interruptions far less disruptive.
  • High defense armor – Stack defense so you can ignore most siren harassment while you search each island.
Tip: Make sure your deckhands are assigned, and your ship is fully repaired before you leave normal seas. Every ship reset back to the Dark Sea edge costs time.

Efficient route: farming Siren Islands for pages

The goal is to touch as many Siren Islands as possible in the shortest time, without being forced back out of the Dark Sea or bogged down in fights.

Step 1: Sail into the Dark Sea until you reach Insanity I. This is the first insanity tier where Siren Islands start spawning consistently.

Step 2: Once you hit Insanity I, stop treating the trip like a full expedition. Ignore other structures, Dark Sealed Chests, and distractions. Plot straight lines from one Siren Island to the next.

Step 3: When you arrive at a Siren Island, disembark and quickly sweep the terrain for a glowing Athena note. Do not spend time chasing or fighting sirens; treat them as background damage.

Step 4: If you spot a note, collect it and immediately return to your ship. If you do not see one after a quick circuit, leave and head for the next Siren Island.

Step 5: If you become water poisoned while on the island, move into the inner “dry” section of the island to clear the debuff before you resume sailing.

This loop is intentionally narrow: sail, check, leave. Siren Islands do not guarantee a page spawn, so you will almost always visit more than 27 islands to finish the set. A long run can easily stretch across dozens of islands and several hours of play.

Dealing with sirens and Atlantean ships

Siren Islands are not the main threat; Atlantean ships are. The sirens themselves can be treated as environmental noise if you build for defense.

  • Ignore sirens whenever possible. Their magic can blind you or toss the ship around, but fighting them wastes time and does not help with page spawns.
  • Sink Atlantean ships on sight. If you sail past a catch or brig and leave it alive, it can follow and ambush your ship the next time you dismount on a Siren Island, potentially destroying your vessel while you are on land.

Step 1: When an Atlantean ship appears, break off from your route long enough to destroy it fully. Treat every encounter as mandatory.

Step 2: After the ship is sunk and the area is clear, repair if needed and resume your Siren Island chain.

The main reason to be strict about this is recovery time. Every time your ship is sunk, and you are pushed back out of the Dark Sea, you lose minutes sailing back to Insanity I instead of visiting more islands.

How long the page grind can take

There is no fixed number of Siren Islands required because page spawns are random. A typical long run can involve dozens of islands; one documented example took 70 Siren Islands and roughly eight hours to collect all 27 pages, averaging a bit under one page every three islands.

The only way to influence this is efficiency. The more time you spend in transit between Siren Islands instead of fighting, looting, or resetting, the faster the Book of Athena fills out.

Spawning and finding Athena’s statue island

Once all 27 Book of Athena fragments are collected, a new small island with Athena’s statue becomes eligible to appear in the Dark Sea.

  • The statue island can spawn anywhere in the Dark Sea.
  • There is no separate quest you need to start; completing the book is the trigger.

Step 1: After the final page is picked up, sail back toward the Insanity 0 region of the Dark Sea. Visibility and navigation are slightly less punishing there, which makes free roaming more practical.

Step 2: Begin sweeping the Dark Sea looking for a small island dominated by a large Athena statue. Keep to broad arcs and avoid diving too deep into higher insanity tiers unless you are comfortable surviving there for extended periods.

Step 3: Once the statue island appears in your path, land and approach the statue’s front. Interaction will trigger a cutscene similar in style to the Poseidon statue sequence at Mount Orthus.

At the end of the cutscene, you receive the Athena’s Chosen title, Athena’s blessing (the sensing buff), and the Athena’s Power imbuement. From that moment on, your character is permanently flagged as Athena’s Chosen on that file.

Using Athena’s blessing and Athena’s Power in combat

The reward package is subtle but useful, especially for players who lean into sensing and spirit builds.

  • Extended sensing – With Athena’s blessing active, marked targets you have damaged remain visible through sensing for 50% longer. This helps in chaotic fights, prolonged boss battles, and Dark Sea engagements where line-of-sight breaks often.
  • Spirit weapon synergy – Athena’s Power is most impactful on Tide Stone Band and Eagle Patrimony because of their unstable and synergy modifiers. Tide Stone Band gains significantly larger hitboxes at the cost of more drawback, while Eagle Patrimony gains a straightforward power increase.

Outside those two relics, Athena’s Power is currently more cosmetic than mechanical, but the combined package of sensing utility and title exclusivity still makes the grind appealing for completionists and Oracle mains.

Reaching Athena’s statue is a marathon rather than a puzzle: gear for sanity and defense, commit to a fast Siren Island loop, refuse to leave Atlantean ships alive, and keep sailing until all 27 pages are in your logbook. From there, it is only a matter of roaming the Dark Sea until Athena’s island decides to surface in front of you.
