The DAWG (Deployable Armored Weaponized Groundcraft) is a new scorestreak in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. It’s a robotic canine that patrols on its own and engages enemies. Yes, you can pet it — but only under specific conditions and with a short on-screen prompt. Here’s exactly how it works.

What the DAWG scorestreak does

  • Autonomous robot dog that roams the map and shoots enemies it detects.
  • Costs 1,000 score to earn when equipped as one of your scorestreaks.
  • Deploys via airdrop and begins patrolling shortly after touchdown.

Because it airdrops like a Care Package, place the marker in a clear, open area so the crate can land and the DAWG can route out of the drop zone cleanly.

Who can pet the DAWG

  • You can only pet a DAWG that you personally called in.
  • You can’t pet a teammate’s or an enemy’s DAWG while it’s on patrol.

Earn and call in the DAWG (1,000 score)

  1. Equip DAWG as a scorestreak in your multiplayer loadout.
  2. In a match, earn 1,000 score to make it available.
  3. Open the scorestreak menu and place the DAWG marker in an open space.
  4. Wait for the airdrop; once it lands, the DAWG will activate and start patrolling.

Note: In some early builds, the petting interaction only appeared when the DAWG was configured with a Sentry Mode overlock. If the prompt never shows up, try applying that configuration and attempt again in a safe moment.

How to trigger the “pet the DAWG” prompt

  1. Locate your DAWG and move to its front, facing the direction it’s looking.
  2. Step close enough to prompt the on-screen interaction:
  • Xbox controller: Hold X to pet the DAWG.
  • PlayStation controller: Hold Square to pet the DAWG.

Hold the indicated button to play the short animation (about one to two seconds). Afterward, the DAWG immediately resumes its patrol.

Stay safe while you pet

  • Petting momentarily locks you into an animation and pulls the DAWG’s focus, so you’re both vulnerable.
  • Do it between engagements, after a clear, or while holding cover with teammates.
  • If you’re in the open or in an active lane, skip the interaction and keep moving.

That’s all there is to it: earn 1,000 score, call in your own DAWG, approach from the front, and hold the prompt to pet. If you don’t see the interaction, double-check that you deployed the DAWG yourself and consider using a Sentry Mode overlock configuration. Enjoy the quick animation — and keep your head on a swivel while you do.
