Frank the Furnace is one of the Foundry Freaks—an arena trio that also includes Hank the Welder and Sal the Engineer. They spawn together inside The Pitted Stain, a Ripper Drill Site in Idolator’s Noose, Fadefields. The encounter is built for repeat runs: clear waves, fight the bosses, and use the nearby respawn machine to farm dedicated legendaries.

Reaching the fight is straightforward and works whether you’re following a mission route or free-roaming:

  • Travel to Idolator’s Noose in the Fadefields and head to the large drill-site door for The Pitted Stain.
  • Enter and clear multiple waves of Rippers. The Foundry Freaks won’t spawn until these mobs are down.
  • After the add phases, Frank, Hank, and Sal drop into the arena together and the boss fight begins.

After your first clear, you can immediately pay cash at Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine near the entrance to respawn the encounter. The fee scales with your level and is designed for loopable farming.

How the Foundry Freaks fight plays out

This is a close-quarters arena centered on fire and pressure. All three bosses prefer short-range flame bursts and melee strings, and they’ll try to run you down. Expect a mix of lunges, cone flames, and constant mob distraction if any Rippers remain alive when the trio spawns.

  • Keep distance: circle the outer lanes, use cover edges, and kite when they group up.
  • Control the chaos: prioritize one target to thin the trio; the fight stabilizes after the first goes down.
  • Use the arena’s vertical or long sightlines when possible to stagger their approach.
  • Second Wind safety: leave one weakened Ripper alive during the boss phase so you have a fast revive option if you’re downed.

Spawn behavior gives you a small tactical window: the trio arrives together, but Frank tends to hang back slightly on initial aggro. Use that moment to isolate and delete one of the others, then pivot to Frank.

Stage What to equip Why it works
Pre-boss add waves Incendiary AoE or rapid-fire weapons Rippers melt to fire and die quickly to sustained splash or crowd-clear
Boss armor bars (yellow) Corrosive weapons Corrosive strips armor efficiently, speeding the first half of each health bar
Boss flesh bars (red) Incendiary weapons Incendiary finishes flesh bars fast once armor is gone
General control Mid-to-long-range primaries, reliable splash Lets you kite flame and melee pressure while chipping multiple targets

Builds with strong area damage shorten the add phases and make the trio safer to manage. Shields with solid uptime or emergency sustain help during the inevitable burn stacks and chip damage when the bosses sync their dives.

Dedicated drops and best farming loop

Each boss in the trio carries a specific legendary. If you’re targeting one item, you’re farming the entire encounter—plan for multiple loops via the respawn machine.

Boss Dedicated legendary Type Notes
Frank the Furnace Chaumurky Grenade Homing behavior; strong single-target pressure from range
Hank the Welder Chuck Rifle High fire rate rifle for sustained DPS
Sal the Engineer Bloody Lumberjack Assault rifle Hard-hitting AR with strong reliability

Loop the arena like this for efficient runs: clear Ripper waves with Incendiary and splash, switch to Corrosive to strip armor, then swap to fire to finish flesh. Pay at Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine and repeat. At endgame levels, the respawn fee caps at a manageable sum, making The Pitted Stain one of the most consistent early boss farms in the Fadefields.

Quick checklist (one-cycle plan)

  • Travel to Idolator’s Noose → enter The Pitted Stain door.
  • Incendiary AoE for Ripper waves; keep ammo topped from pickups between waves.
  • When the trio drops: focus one target, kite flames, and use cover edges.
  • Corrosive to snap armor, then Incendiary to finish each boss.
  • Leave a weak Ripper for Second Wind insurance.
  • Use Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine at the entrance to respawn and rerun.

If you need a dependable early farm for grenades and rifles, this arena delivers. The route is simple, the fight is learnable, and the respawn loop keeps attempts tight and repeatable.
