Borderlands 4 Moxxi’s Tip Jar — Location, tipping rules, and drops
Borderlands 4How to unlock the jar, what each tip option means, and the two legendaries tied to it.

Moxxi’s tip jar shows up as part of the main story. Progress the mission “Wrath of the Ripper Queen” until you’re sent to “Go to the Bar.” Head to Moxxi’s Bottoms Up! in the western side of Carcadia Burns; the jar sits on the main counter. You won’t be able to interact with it until you reach this point in the campaign.

How tipping works (and what actually triggers a reward)
The jar accepts two donation amounts each time you interact with it: $100 or $1,000. Each individual tip counts toward a hidden threshold, and a legendary reward triggers after a random number of tips. The amount you choose does not determine the outcome — the system is a roll of the dice, not a fixed sum.
When you hit the threshold, a short animation plays on the jar — floating hearts — signaling that a reward is ready. That’s your cue to stop donating and collect the weapon.
Tip option | Cost per tip | Practical use | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
$100 | $100 | Budget-friendly tapping | Same odds per tip; more button presses. |
$1,000 | $1,000 | Faster to reach a roll | Same odds per tip; fewer interactions. |
Expect variance. You might see hearts after relatively little cash, or need to feed the jar several thousand dollars before it pays out.

The two legendary drops from Moxxi
Moxxi’s jar pulls from a small, fixed pool of legendaries. You can earn multiple copies over time.
Weapon | Type and manufacturer | Element | Signature behavior | Handling notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cold Shoulder | Torgue assault rifle | Cryo only | Built-in Hyperion-style shield; shots tend to home toward nearby targets | Strong crowd control via freezing; consistent Cryo output |
Sweet Embrace | Maliwan shotgun | Any element | Fires four projectiles in a square pattern | Wide spread; less reliable on small or distant enemies |

What to do when the jar “pops”
- Watch for floating hearts around the jar; this signals a reward is available.
- Stop tipping. Further donations won’t accelerate anything once the animation appears.
- Claim the legendary from Moxxi at the bar.

Trophy unlocked by tipping
Any tip amount — even a single $100 — unlocks the Glucose Guardian trophy (Bronze, 5 Gamerscore). This pops separately from the legendary reward and does not affect your odds.
Quick answers
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Do I have to tip all at once? | No. The jar counts individual tips; the reward comes after a random number of donations. |
Does $1,000 give better loot than $100? | No. It just gets you to the next roll in fewer interactions. |
Can I farm duplicates? | Yes. You can trigger the hearts again later and receive another copy. |
Why won’t the jar take more cash? | You’ve hit the reward state. Look for the hearts and grab the weapon from Moxxi. |
Practical farming approach
- Advance the story until Bottoms Up! opens during “Wrath of the Ripper Queen.”
- Decide on a tip size based on your cash: $1,000 to move quickly, $100 to conserve funds.
- Watch the jar after each tip; once hearts appear, stop and collect your legendary.
- Repeat as needed if you want different rolls or the other weapon from the pool.

The system is built to be unpredictable. Don’t chase patterns; set a budget, tip to the animation, and walk away with your guaranteed legendary when it triggers.
