Press the in‑game menu button and RB to hide the Roblox chat box on Xbox. If you prefer to stop text chat altogether, you can also disable Experience chat in your account settings.

Hide the chat box quickly on Xbox (in‑experience toggle)

This method removes the on‑screen chat panel so it no longer blocks UI elements (inventory, settings, respawn, etc.). You can turn it back on the same way.

Step 1: While you are inside an experience (not on the Roblox home screen), press Start (the three‑lines “menu” button) to open Roblox’s in‑game overlay.

Step 2: Press RB to toggle Hide Chat. Look for the on‑screen prompt in the lower‑right corner that confirms the action.

Step 3: Return to play. The chat panel should disappear, freeing the top‑left area and any buttons it previously covered.

Step 4: To show chat again later, repeat Step 1 and press RB again.

Notes:

  • On PlayStation, the equivalent toggle uses R1 while the in‑game menu is open.
  • If you are using a keyboard and mouse on console, you still need a controller to send the chat toggle.
  • In some experiences, moving focus to the Chat tile in the overlay before pressing the toggle helps the button appear.

Disable Experience chat via account settings (stops text chat)

This option stops people from messaging you in experiences and removes your ability to send messages. It’s account‑level and applies across platforms.

Step 1: Sign in to your Roblox account on the web or app, then open Settings.

Step 2: Go to Privacy & content maturity and open the Communication section.

Step 3: Under Experience chat, set who can chat with you to No one.

Step 4: Restart the experience on your Xbox to apply the change. You should no longer receive or send text messages in experiences.

Troubleshooting the RB toggle

If the chat box won’t hide or the prompt isn’t visible, use these checks.

Step 1: Confirm you’re inside a running experience. The toggle appears only in‑experience; it won’t show on the Roblox home or discovery screens.

Step 2: Open the in‑game overlay with Start, then scan the lower‑right corner. If the hint for Hide Chat isn’t there, nudge focus to the Chat tile and check again.

Step 3: Make sure you’re pressing the controller’s Start (three lines) and RB, not the Xbox Guide button or LT/RT.

Step 4: Close and relaunch Roblox, then rejoin the same experience. This refresh often restores the toggle if the UI failed to load.

Step 5: Try a different experience. Chat features and their UI cues can vary by experience and rollout stage; some servers may not expose the toggle consistently.

Step 6: If you’re on keyboard/mouse without a controller nearby, connect through Remote Play or plug in a controller just long enough to send the toggle.

Use the RB toggle when you just need the chat panel out of the way; use account settings when you want to stop text chat entirely. You can switch approaches anytime based on how you play.
