Partners in Code Vein 2 are recruitable allies that grant passive effects and combat utilities through Link Traits, whether they’re summoned or assimilated.
Quick answer: You can have one Partner active at a time, and you can either summon them to fight or assimilate them for stat boosts while keeping traits active.
Partner system mechanics (Summoning, Assimilation, and Link Traits)
Summoning brings your Partner into the field as an independent ally. They can pressure enemies, draw attention, flank, and contribute with their own attacks and support actions.
Assimilation merges your Partner’s essence with you, granting increased stats and keeping their traits active while removing them from direct combat.
Link Traits are the core passive effects a Partner grants. These effects are tied to your bond (LP). If the bond breaks after taking enough damage, you lose those effects until the bond is restored.
Restorative Offering is the Partner “second chance” mechanic. When your HP drops to zero, the Partner can restore you, then becomes incapacitated for a short time before the effect can be used again.

How to verify your Partner bonuses are active
Link Trait effects: you should see the relevant in-combat benefit occur (for example, stamina costs dropping, Ichor recovery triggering, or casting speed increases) while your bond (LP) remains intact.
Restorative Offering: the clearest confirmation is a revival when your HP reaches zero, followed by a period where the Partner cannot repeat the revive immediately.
Summoned vs. assimilated: if the Partner is physically present and acting, you’re summoned; if they’re not present but you still retain passive benefits and stat increases, you’re assimilated.

What blocks Link Traits from working
- Bond (LP) broken: if you take enough damage to break the bond, Link Traits stop applying until the bond is restored.
- Partner not active: only the currently selected Partner can provide their Link Trait and other Partner effects.
Because only one Partner can be active at a time, Link Trait selection is effectively part of your moment-to-moment loadout: pick the passive you want, then decide whether you want a body on the field (Summoning) or a tighter solo stat package (Assimilation).
