Crimson Desert Has 76 Boss Fights — Here's Every One Revealed So Far

Crimson Desert is shaping up to be one of the most boss-dense action RPGs in recent memory. Pearl Abyss has confirmed the game contains 76 boss fights logged in the in-game boss knowledge menu, and that number may actually climb higher when factoring in story-driven character encounters that fall outside the formal boss tracker. Roughly two dozen of those fights have been revealed through trailers, gameplay previews, and early playtests, giving a solid picture of the variety players can expect.

Quick answer: Crimson Desert features 76 tracked boss fights. At least 22 distinct bosses have been shown so far, including human duelists, massive creatures, mechanical war machines, and dark sorcerers. Some human bosses like Matthias are categorized separately as "character" encounters and don't count toward the 76.

How the Boss Tracking System Works

Crimson Desert uses a boss knowledge menu that tracks your progress across the game's 76 formal boss fights. Not every enemy you fight in a boss-like encounter counts toward this number. Matthias, for instance, functions as a duel with a named character but is categorized under the "character" category rather than the boss roster. When human bosses classified as characters are included alongside the 76 tracked bosses, the total number of significant combat encounters likely exceeds one hundred.

⚠️
Some bosses like Matthias won't appear in the boss knowledge menu even after you defeat them. If you're tracking completion, pay attention to which category each fight falls under.

Boss Rewards — Artifacts, Skills, and Equipment

Defeating bosses in Crimson Desert yields more than just the satisfaction of a hard-won fight. The reward system ties directly into character progression through two main channels.

Artifacts and skills. Certain bosses drop artifacts that boost core stats like Health and Stamina. Some artifacts also unlock entirely new skills or upgrade existing ones, making boss fights essential for expanding your combat toolkit rather than just optional challenges.

Unique equipment and signature abilities. Specific bosses drop crafting materials that let you build equipment with unique effects. Equipping boss-derived gear grants access to that boss's signature abilities or provides unique combat bonuses. If you want Walter Lanford's shotgun moveset or the Staglord's blade techniques, you'll need to defeat them and craft their gear.

Death and Retry Mechanics During Boss Fights

When you die during a boss encounter, the game presents two options. You can reload from your last save or checkpoint, or you can use a consumable revival item — a small seed-like pill that brings you back with 30 percent of your health. This gives you a second chance without losing progress, though the limited health pool means you'll need to play carefully after reviving. The exact inventory cap for these revival items hasn't been confirmed yet.

With only about 22 of 76 tracked bosses revealed so far, Crimson Desert is keeping the vast majority of its encounters under wraps. The bosses shown already span an impressive range — from intimate one-on-one duels with rival swordsmen to massive battles against mechanical dragons and mountain spirits. The full roster will become clear once the game launches, but the foundation Pearl Abyss has shown suggests boss variety will be one of Crimson Desert's strongest selling points.
