Crimson Desert Ivar Bounty — Location, Capture, and Full Reward

Crimson Desert Ivar Bounty — Location, Capture, and Full Reward

Ivar is a former slave who killed his master and fled into the wilds of Pywel. His bounty notice appears on the boards in Pailune City after you liberate the region during the main storyline of Crimson Desert. The catch — literally — is that you need to bring him back alive for the full payout. Kill him, even by accident, and the guards only hand over half.

Quick answer: Complete Chapter 7 (defeat Ludvig), pick up Ivar's poster from a billboard in Pailune City, travel north to Halbert Harpoonery by the river, tackle and tie him up without killing him, then carry him back to the jail cells in northeastern Pailune City for 25 silver.

Unlock requirement — Finish Chapter 7

The Ivar Bounty is story-gated behind the liberation of Pailune City. During the final subquest of Chapter 7, you temporarily play as Oongka because Kliff is injured. You must defeat Ludvig in this segment. Once the victory cutscene plays and Chapter 8 begins, Pailune is free, and the local bounty system activates. Several wanted posters start appearing around the city, including notices for Ivar, Sienne, and Throk.

If you're still in Hernand or earlier chapters, Ivar's poster simply won't exist anywhere in the world. Progress through the main story first.

Pick up the bounty poster manually

Bounties in Crimson Desert don't add themselves to your quest log automatically. You need to physically walk up to a billboard, lamppost, or pole inside Pailune City and interact with the wanted poster. Look for a sketch of a man with a white beard. Reading the notice activates the quest and causes Ivar to spawn at his hideout. Without this step, he won't be there even if you ride straight to the location.

⚠️
Bounty posters require manual interaction. If you skip the poster, Ivar will not appear at Halbert Harpoonery.

Where to find Ivar — Halbert Harpoonery

Ivar's last known location is Halbert Harpoonery, a riverside area directly north of Pailune City. Open your map and follow the river northward — the spot is close, roughly 800 meters from the city gates. There's also an Abyss Nexus nearby, so if you've already unlocked it you can fast-travel to cut the trip short.

When you arrive, scan the camp for a man wearing a navy blue outfit, a long white beard, and a white round cap. He'll be standing among a small group of runaways. He's easy to spot once you know what to look for.

Chase, tackle, and tie up Ivar

Step 1: Approach Ivar. The moment he notices you, he bolts. Do not draw your weapon — killing him reduces the reward from 25 silver to roughly 12.

Step 2: Sprint after him and close the gap. Once you're directly behind him, hold R on PC or LB (Xbox) / L1 (PlayStation) to tackle him to the ground.

Step 3: Hit him a few times with unarmed strikes until the "Tie Up" prompt appears on screen. Once bound, he can no longer escape.

Step 4: Pick him up, whistle for your horse, and ride south back into Pailune City. Head to the northeastern part of the city where the jail cells are located. Walk up to the guards with Ivar on your shoulder and hand him over.

Dealing with enemies at the camp

Hostile NPCs patrol the Harpoonery area and will attack you on sight. The danger isn't the enemies themselves — it's that Ivar can die in the crossfire. A stray sword swing or area-of-effect ability that clips him while he's tied up (or fleeing) will count as a kill, cutting your bounty in half.

The safest approach is to lead enemies away from Ivar before fighting. Clear them out at a distance, then return to chase and subdue him. If you have a pet with a snare or distraction ability, deploying it the moment Ivar starts running can prevent a long pursuit through the area.

💡
Save manually before entering Halbert Harpoonery. If Ivar dies accidentally, you can reload and attempt the capture again for the full 25 silver.

What to do if Ivar doesn't spawn

Occasionally, the game's world simulation delays Ivar's appearance at the camp. If you arrive at Halbert Harpoonery and the area is empty, leave and travel to any location where you can rest — a campfire or a bed in Pailune City works. Sleep for 6 or 12 in-game hours, then return. This time, the reset forces the NPC scripts to load properly, and Ivar should be standing in the camp when you get back.

Reward and completion

ConditionReward
Ivar delivered alive25 silver
Ivar delivered dead~12 silver

Handing Ivar over to the guards at the jail cells in northeastern Pailune City completes the bounty. You'll see a quest completion notification and the silver added to your inventory. The quest is then marked as finished in your journal.

The Ivar Bounty is one of the shorter capture missions in Crimson Desert, thanks to the proximity of Halbert Harpoonery to the turn-in point. It's a solid introduction to the non-lethal apprehension mechanics that later bounties like Sienne and Throk build on — and a reliable way to pocket some early silver after liberating Pailune.
