Crimson Desert's Drakesfall Gorge Ruins Puzzle Is Red Light, Green Light With Stone Statues

Drakesfall Gorge sits at the northeastern edge of Hernand, just past the Hills of No Return and near the border with Demeniss. Tucked onto a plateau close to a camp of Hernandian soldiers, you'll find two rows of soldier statues flanking a stone pathway — and a much larger statue waiting at the far end. This is one of Crimson Desert's 37 Ancient Ruins puzzles, and completing it activates an Abyss Cresset fast travel point while also rewarding you with an Abyss Artifact.

Quick answer: Step on the stone pressure plate to start the puzzle, then walk toward the large statue at the end of the pathway. Stop moving every time its glowing blue eyes face you. Reach the statue without being caught to complete the puzzle.

Drakesfall Gorge Ruins location

The puzzle is a few thousand meters from the main city of Hernand, situated between the Hills of No Return and the Ancient Rift. On the world map, look for Drakesfall Gorge in northern Hernand — the ruins are on a plateau near a Hernandian soldier encampment, right at the Demeniss border. The area appears as a Mysterious Energy zone (fog of war with a question mark) until you get close enough to reveal it.

How the Red Light, Green Light mechanic works

The Drakesfall Gorge puzzle borrows directly from the classic children's game. Two rows of Hernandian soldier statues line a pathway, and a large elder or "king" statue stands at the far end. When you step on the stone pressure plate at the start of the path, the soldier statues raise their swords, and the elder statue activates, periodically turning to face you.

Whenever the elder statue rotates toward you, its eyes glow blue. You must stop all movement immediately. If the statue detects you moving while it watches, its eyes turn red and the puzzle resets — you'll need to walk back to the pressure plate and begin again from scratch.

When the statue turns away, you're free to advance down the pathway toward it. Repeat this cycle of moving and freezing until you reach the base of the elder statue and the nearby Abyss Cresset pillar.

Solving the puzzle without failing

Step 1: Walk onto the stone pressure plate at the entrance to the row of statues. This triggers the puzzle and activates the elder statue's rotation cycle.

Step 2: Watch the elder statue carefully. When it turns away from you, move forward along the pathway between the soldier statues. Walk rather than sprint — Kliff takes a noticeable amount of time to come to a full stop after running, and any residual movement while the statue is watching counts as a failure.

Step 3: The moment the statue begins rotating back toward you, release the movement stick entirely. Stay completely still while its blue eyes are visible. Do not touch any directional input.

Step 4: Continue alternating between moving forward and freezing in place. Each safe window gives you a few seconds to close the distance.

Step 5: Once you reach the far end and move close to the Abyss Cresset pillar, the puzzle completes. The Abyss Cresset activates as a fast travel point, and you receive an Abyss Artifact, which can be used to unlock abilities and improve Kliff's attributes.

⚠️
Walking is strongly recommended over sprinting. Kliff's sprint animation has significant momentum, and even a slight slide after you release the stick can trigger detection. If you insist on sprinting, pull out your lantern to force an immediate stop before the statue turns.

What happens if you fail

Getting caught is not punishing beyond lost time. The elder statue's eyes flash red, and you're sent back to the starting pressure plate. There's no health penalty or combat encounter — you simply restart the sequence. The timing windows remain the same on each attempt, so patience is the only real requirement.

Rewards and what Abyss Cressets do

Every Ancient Ruins puzzle in Crimson Desert yields the same two rewards when completed. The Abyss Cresset becomes a permanent fast travel point you can teleport to from anywhere on the map. The Abyss Artifact feeds into Kliff's progression system, letting you unlock new abilities or boost core attributes. With 37 Ancient Ruins scattered across Pywel, each one contributes meaningfully to your overall power growth and map coverage.

You can track which Ancient Ruins you've discovered and completed through the Journal's Challenges tab, making it straightforward to identify which puzzles you still need to finish across Hernand, Pailune, Demeniss, Delesyia, and the Crimson Desert region.

The Drakesfall Gorge puzzle is one of the simpler Ancient Ruins encounters in Crimson Desert — no special abilities, no block-pushing, no mural deciphering. Just steady nerves and a willingness to walk instead of run. If you've already tackled the Mount Benus Ruins in southern Delesyia, you'll recognize the same Red Light, Green Light format, though that version adds muddy terrain and hostile creatures to complicate things further.
