The Haunted Hill Ruins in Crimson Desert contain one of the game's few water-based puzzles. It sits inside a stone basin flooded with water, and your job is to drain every last drop. The reward is an Abyss Artifact and a new fast-travel teleport point — both well worth the short detour.
Quick answer: Learn the Nature's Snare skill, then use it on two triangular spinning devices inside the basin — one after the other — until the water drains completely and the Abyss Cresset unlocks.

Where to find the Haunted Hill Ruins
Haunted Hill is a small sub-region northwest of Hernand Town. The ruins themselves sit roughly 850 meters northwest of the city. The easiest route is to follow the river that flows north of town, continue northwest past the lake, and then head west along one of the smaller branching streams. The lake splits into four offshoots — take the one that trends northwest rather than due north or due west. The ruins are just past the end of that stream.
Nearby landmarks include the Hunter's Cabin graveyard puzzle to the west and an Abyss Nexus directly east of the graveyard, so you may already have waypoints in the area.

How to get the Nature's Snare skill
Nature's Snare is a spirit-type ability found in the green section of the skill tree. You need it before you can interact with the puzzle mechanisms. There are two ways to learn it.
| Method | Details |
|---|---|
| Observation (free) | At the ruins, look for a blue hologram of a child using a nature power on the southern side of the basin, near a triangular device poking out of the water. Focus on the hologram to learn the skill at no cost. |
| Abyss Artifact (skill tree) | Spend one Abyss Artifact in the spirit section of the skill tree to unlock Nature's Snare directly. |
If you arrive at the ruins without the skill, the observation method lets you pick it up on the spot, so there is no need to backtrack.

How Nature's Snare works
Nature's Snare lets you grasp and spin objects using spirit energy. To activate it, first enter Focus mode (the ability you learned during the Reunion quest). Then, on a controller, rotate the right stick clockwise. On the keyboard, press E. As long as you are close to a valid object and have Spirit remaining, your character will keep spinning it.
The ability slowly drains your Spirit meter. If you run out mid-spin, simply re-enter Focus to regenerate Spirit and then resume. Your draining progress on the water level is not lost when you pause, so there is no pressure to finish in a single cast.

Draining the basin — full walkthrough
Step 1: Head to the southern side of the basin where the blue hologram appeared. A triangular wooden device juts out of the water near the Abyss Cresset. This first mechanism is not submerged, so you can reach it on foot.
Step 2: Stand in front of the device at a comfortable distance and activate Nature's Snare. The device will begin spinning, and the water level will slowly drop. Keep the ability active until the water recedes below the device's stone base and stops draining further.

Step 3: Cross to the opposite side of the basin where a second spinning device sits. The water is still partially present, so use the exposed pillars and ledges to move across safely rather than swimming — drowning is a real risk here.
Step 4: Use Nature's Snare on the second device exactly as before. Continue spinning it until the water drains completely. A short cutscene will play showing the Abyss Cresset unlocking.

Rewards for completing the puzzle
| Reward | What it does |
|---|---|
| Abyss Artifact | Approach the now-accessible container near the Cresset to claim it. Abyss Artifacts can be spent to unlock new skills. |
| Fast-travel teleport | A new teleport point activates at Haunted Hill, making future visits instant. |
Common sticking points
The puzzle is straightforward, but a couple of things can trip you up. If nothing happens when you try to spin a device, double-check that you have Nature's Snare equipped and that you are entering Focus before attempting the spin input. On the controller, the right-stick rotation needs to be a deliberate clockwise motion — a single flick will not sustain the spin.
If your Spirit runs out and the device stops, do not worry. Walk away, use Focus to regenerate, and come back. The water level stays where you left it, so you can chip away at it in multiple attempts without penalty.
With both devices fully drained, the Abyss Cresset opens up, and the Haunted Hill Ruins are complete — one less puzzle standing between you and a full map of fast-travel points across Crimson Desert's world.
