The Ciupaga in Dying Light: The Beast mirrors the fantasy of God of War’s Leviathan: you can hurl it into targets and call it straight back into your hand. It’s also a practical tool for early exploration, thanks to a built‑in loot bonus. Here’s where to grab it, how to reach it from the outside, and the small control quirks that make the throw-and-recall work reliably on PC and controllers.

Ciupaga location (Misty Forest Resort)

The Ciupaga sits on the exterior of the Misty Forest Resort in the National Park area. You’ll pass this resort naturally shortly after completing the main mission “The Beast Within.” The axe isn’t inside; it’s mounted just above a balcony door near the top of the building.

Reach it from the outside:

  • Approach the resort entrance, then move to the right side of the facade to begin climbing.
  • Use ledges, fencing, and awnings to work up to the first roofline; keep heading up and around toward the back.
  • Drop or vault onto the rear balcony. Look just above the balcony doorframe — the axe is placed horizontally on hooks. Jump up and collect it.
Note: If the axe isn’t present, progress the story and return. The resort’s interior opens later during the “Stay Human” side quest, but you do not need to enter the building to obtain the Ciupaga.

How the throw and recall works

The Ciupaga can be thrown and recalled on default bindings without unlocking a separate skill. The throw uses the game’s built‑in weapon throw input, and the axe returns to your hand automatically after impact.

Platform Throw input (default) Recall
PC (keyboard/mouse) Hold attack (LMB), then press interact (F) while still holding Automatic return to hand after impact
Controller Hold aim/attack (RT), then click the right stick (R3) Automatic return to hand after impact
Tip: Throwing consumes stamina. The axe’s unique perk doubles throw power, so a well‑timed toss can drop common infected and stagger tougher targets at surprising range.

Perks, durability, and crafting

Beyond the recall trick, the Ciupaga carries a useful set of passives:

  • +20% common craftparts loot
  • +10% uncommon craftparts loot
  • +100% weapon throw power

Those loot bonuses apply when the Ciupaga is equipped. Clear an area with your usual kit, then swap to the axe while looting to pick up extra materials.

Like other legendary melee weapons, the Ciupaga wears down with use. Picking it up adds its blueprint to your crafting menu, letting you make replacements later at a workbench. Crafted versions won’t perfectly match the unique roll of the one you find on the wall, but they can keep the playstyle going without another trip to the resort.

Step‑by‑step: reach the balcony faster

  1. From the resort’s front entrance, turn right and climb up the wall and fencing to the first exterior platform.
  2. Traverse the awnings and ledges, then mantle to the roofline.
  3. Circle to the back of the building and drop to the balcony.
  4. Look above the balcony door; jump up to grab the Ciupaga.
Tip: Power lines and awnings along the facade visually guide a clean route to the balcony. If you fall, the climb is short enough to retry immediately.

Troubleshooting: it’s not there

  • Advance the main story and revisit the resort. Players often see the axe appear after pushing further into early missions.
  • Return after completing activities nearby. Some world items populate once nearby objectives are cleared.
  • Don’t wait on the “Stay Human” side quest. That opens the interior; the axe is still collected from the outside balcony.

The Ciupaga delivers two wins early in the game: a satisfying ranged option that snaps back to your palm, and a quiet boost to your materials grind. Grab it once, then rely on the blueprint to keep that loop alive whenever the original finally breaks.
