Dying Light: The Beast — The Beast Within quest walkthrough
Dying Light: The BeastDetailed directions for rooftops, the church tower, and the train tunnels with essential survival notes.

The Beast Within is the third main mission in Dying Light: The Beast, unlocked after finishing Life After Life. It pivots from a contained defense to an open hunt that moves across rooftops, into Old Town’s church, and down through train tunnels. This walkthrough focuses on the cleanest route through each objective and what to prioritize when the game throws Sleepers, Biters, and Volatiles at you.
Mission overview and rewards
- Objectives: speak to Jacob, track the Beast across rooftops, investigate the explosion, reach and climb the church, push into the train tunnels, and escape the cave-in.
- Completion rewards: 10,000 XP and 500 Old World Money. A Co-Op Lootpack is granted if you complete the mission in co-op.

Talk to Jacob (Town Hall)
Start on the second floor of Town Hall. Jacob recaps the Beast encounter and points you toward the rooftop trail Sheriff saw from the tower.

Climb up via the new ladder near the UV lights and get onto the roof. Use Survivor Sense to reveal the Beast’s tracks; Volatiles will appear in red while scanning.

Follow the trail across nearby rooftops until a blast interrupts the chase. Your target shifts to the explosion site.
Investigate the explosion site (under the bridge)
The blast site sits by a bridge where an armored or military vehicle has been hit. Clear the immediate infected or give them a wide berth—your task is to inspect the bodies and container truck rather than hold the area.

Search the truck to progress the objective and listen for the emergency call pointing you to Old Town’s church. Don’t rush off before grabbing useful loot inside the vehicle (fuel, ammo, and a strong SMG can spawn here).

Reach the church (basement entrance)
Head straight for the church even if Volatiles sniff you out; the main gate area is bathed in UV and offers brief safety. The primary doors are locked, so use the exterior stairs leading down to the lower level and move toward the basement.

At the iron gate that’s been smashed open, squeeze through the narrower opening immediately to the right. Crouch and keep your light off where possible—this room is packed with Sleepers and a single patrolling infected. Thread the far-right edge of the room to minimize noise.

Climb the small rise at the back and pull aside the wooden plank blocking the passage to the main hall. A cutscene will introduce the Beast before it flees upward.

Pursue the Beast (church interior climb)
The commotion wakes the Sleepers. Decide quickly: thin the group from elevation or begin climbing immediately. Either way, your route snakes along the church’s walls and scaffolds.
- From the altar, move left to the scaffolding and up to the ledges on the right-hand wall. Shimmy along, then jump to the statue base and loop around to the opposite wall.

- Traverse between columns toward the stained glass, reaching a wooden platform. Kick down the folding ladder here—this creates a mid-route checkpoint if you fall.

- Jump to the first chandelier, then the second, and leap to the hanging rope. Swing directly to the stone outcrop above the altar; waiting costs momentum and increases the risk of a fall.

- From the outcrop, climb to a wooden ledge on the side opposite the fountain. Expect one or two infected to meet you on landing.
- Advance along a beam and commit to the long jump into the open window across the nave. Once outside, reacquire the Beast’s tracks with Survivor Sense and move across the roofline.

Get to the train tunnel (Old Town edge)
Make for the tunnel where the Beast is stalking the Baron’s soldiers. Inside, the critical path is marked by yellow glowsticks; follow them through rubble-strewn corridors and smaller rooms while clearing opportunistic Biters.

Find the Beast in the tunnel (cross the tracks)
At the bottom of a stairwell that appears to dead-end, a large infected blocks progress. Look for a Pitchfork opportunity weapon in the environment to burst down its health, then finish the kill with your regular loadout.

With the area clear, push the partially opened door on the first storage car to the right of the room’s entrance. Use it to cross to the far side of the tracks and continue deeper in pursuit.

Escape the tunnels (don’t fight the swarm)
The chase collapses into a cave-in and a full-blown swarm of infected. Your only win condition here is speed—turn around and retrace your path to daylight.
- Do not stop to fight; even a few seconds spent swinging will burn your exit window.
- Favor the “harder-looking” lines: routes with bars to swing across, longer jumps, and planks over gaps. These micro-parkour sections momentarily slow the horde behind you.
- Keep your sprint charged and chain movement tech—vaults, swings, and mantles—so you’re rarely stationary.
Breaking into sunlight at the tunnel mouth ends the pursuit and the mission.
Survival notes for this mission
- Volatiles during the rooftop and street segments are functionally unbeatable—running is the plan. Use Survivor Sense often; red silhouettes help you avoid their sightlines.
- UV-lit thresholds (Town Hall, church gate) can reset pressure during night sections. If you’re spotted near Town Hall early, doubling back through its UV entrance will break a chase.
- In the church, the fold-down ladder is an important safety net—kick it once you reach that platform so you don’t have to redo the entire climb after a fall.
Once you’re out, bank the XP and cash, then queue up First Blood. The Beast Within’s route teaches the game’s preferred rhythm—sprint lines on rooftops, measured stealth through Sleepers, and a confidence check on mid-air traversal—so you’ll be better prepared for the set pieces ahead.
