The Fast and Fortunate is Dying Light: The Beast’s optional racing questline in Castor Woods. It’s a short series of time trials in a zombie-choked course that doubles as the only reliable way to unlock the Car Repair Kit blueprint for fixing ruined vehicles.

Prerequisites to make the quest appear

  • Unlock the Efficient Driving and Collision Expert skills. The quest marker won’t appear until you have both.
  • Head to the Farmlands, along the road that borders the Villa area. Look for a crashed truck with infected nearby.
  • Clear the area, pick up the radio/comms from the wreck, then follow the voice to the quest giver’s location: a car shop/garage near Nate Market (Dark Zone).

Inside the workshop you’ll meet Travis, who organizes truck rally races around Castor Woods. He’ll start you off with a qualifier before you’re allowed onto the main stages.

How progression works

  • Each track unlocks after you finish the previous one with at least a Bronze time.
  • After each race, wait one full in‑game day for Travis to get in touch and open the next stage.
  • Complete all stages, then return to Travis to claim the final reward.

Race locations, medal targets, and rewards

These are the stages and time thresholds you need to hit. Bronze is enough to advance; going for Gold is required if you’re chasing the racing achievement/trophy.

Stage Where to start Bronze Silver Gold
Qualifier Travis’s workshop sign ≤ 2:00 ≤ 1:42 ≤ 1:33
Le Mans‑ion Castor Woods course marker ≤ 2:50 ≤ 2:35 ≤ 2:25
Old Town Grand Prix Near Hardwood Art Gallery ≤ 2:29 ≤ 2:14 ≤ 2:04
Factory 500 Industrial course marker ≤ 2:35 ≤ 2:20 ≤ 2:10

Quest starting point: a broken car east of Taurus Gas Station in the Farmlands.
Series rewards: XP, Beginner Manual Pages, and the Car Repair Kit Blueprint after the final stage.

Driving tips for beating the timers

  • Prioritize speed to each checkpoint. Clipping smaller infected is fine; the time loss from braking is usually worse.
  • Avoid large infected at all costs. A direct hit can wreck the truck and end a run.
  • Watch for gas tanks on the road. They can stick to the hood and explode, destroying the vehicle.
  • If you get lodged or totaled, use the vehicle respawn prompt (F on PC) to get unstuck quickly.
  • You only need Bronze to unlock the next race. Save perfection runs for when you’re targeting Gold times.

What you get for finishing everything

  • Car Repair Kit Blueprint: lets you repair trucks you’ve battered during exploration and races.
  • Achievement/Trophy progress: winning Gold on all Travis’s races fulfills the racing challenge requirement for completionists.

If the quest marker doesn’t show up, double‑check the two required driving skills, then return to the Farmlands crash site and approach on foot. Once Travis is in your contacts, let a full in‑game day pass between stages so the next race can be scheduled.

The racing series is brief but useful: it opens a dependable repair path for vehicles and gives you a structured reason to learn each road, shortcut, and hazard in Castor Woods. Treat Bronze as your unlock pace, then come back for clean laps when you’re chasing Gold.
