Every Money-Making Method in Abyss, From Beginner to End Game

Money is the single most important resource in Abyss on Roblox. It dictates which guns you can buy, which tubes you can ride, and how deep you can actually explore. Running out of cash stalls your progression hard, and aimlessly catching low-value fish near the starter island is one of the slowest ways to build a bankroll. The trick is matching your money-making strategy to your current stage in the game.

Quick answer: Complete every available NPC quest in your current region first — they offer the highest guaranteed payouts — then target mutated fish with the Radar item ($450 from Richard in Forgotten Deep) and sell high-weight catches from Ancient Sands or Spirit Roots.

Early Game Money in Forgotten Deep

Starter Quests Are Your Best Income

When you first spawn on the starter island, your priority should be accepting and finishing every quest you can find. The Kraken NPC at the center of Forgotten Deep doubles as a tutorial and a significant early cash source, handing out a chain of simple tasks like catching specific fish and buying gear. Completing these rewards you with money, XP, and Star Shards simultaneously, so you're progressing on multiple fronts at once.

Beyond the Kraken, talk to Mr. Black and Virelia on the same island. Their quests are beginner-friendly and can all be worked on at the same time without interfering with each other. Once you've wrapped up the island quests and have enough money to buy the Pufferfish Tube, you unlock access to the Diver NPC out in the open water. The Diver assigns delivery tasks — carrying crates of varying weight to NPCs across different regions. With just the Pufferfish Tube, you can complete roughly six of these deliveries for around $3,500 in easy earnings.

Tip: Resist the urge to buy early gun and tube upgrades beyond the Pufferfish Tube. Most early-game equipment gets replaced quickly. Save your cash for the mid-game gear that actually matters.

Best Fish to Farm Early

If you've finished your quests and still need cash, focus on Salmon and Mahi Mahi in the waters around Forgotten Deep. Both are non-hostile, weigh a decent amount, and give reasonable money and XP per catch. Mahi Mahi, in particular, are large and heavy, meaning they sell for more than most fish in the starter zone. Barracudas also sell well but are aggressive, so they're riskier for new players with weak guns.

Always prioritize mutated variants of any fish you encounter. Mutations apply a sell-price multiplier that can dramatically increase your income from a single catch. To spot them efficiently, buy the Radar from Richard in Forgotten Deep for $450. Using it scans a wide area and displays each fish's name, health, and mutation status, so you can skip normal fish and zero in on the valuable ones.

Mid Game Money in Ancient Sands

Marcus, Grumpy Hank, and the Diver Questline

Once you reach the Ancient Sands region, quest rewards jump significantly. Your main targets here are the Marcus and Grumpy Hank NPC questlines. Completing all of their associated tasks nets roughly $20,000–$25,000 from each NPC. That's a massive leap from early-game payouts and enough to fund serious gear upgrades.

Don't forget to return to the Diver NPC and continue his delivery chain. Many of his later quests take place in Ancient Sands, so you can knock them out alongside the Marcus and Grumpy Hank objectives without extra travel.

Fish Farming in Ancient Sands

For fish-based income, start with Cod and Blackfin Tuna. Neither is hostile, and both bring in solid profit per catch. Once you've upgraded to at least the Crossbow Gun (your first recommended purchase in this region), you can handle tougher targets.

After picking up the Wasted Gun from Crazy Jeff's Store, shift your focus to Sharks and Bigmouthfish. A single non-mutated Bigmouthfish can sell for close to $980, and mutated versions push well past $2,000 each. Sharks hit hard and are difficult to catch, but their sell value makes them worth the risk once your gear can handle the fight. Mutated variants of any fish in this region can yield around $10,000 per hour of focused farming.

Note: Skip the Boat Tube that Marcus sells. Instead, save up for the Zepline Tube, which unlocks after completing five Diver quests. It's a much better investment for reaching the end-game region.

End Game Money in Spirit Roots

Gear Requirements for the Deepest Region

Spirit Roots is the deepest and most dangerous area in Abyss, and your tube choice matters a lot here. The Zepline Tube only functions down to 375 meters, which limits you to the upper portion of the region. For full access, pick up the Rukiry Tube from Grumpy Hank or, ideally, go straight for the Oxy Tube. The depth ratings are similar between the two, but the Oxy Tube's overall stats are significantly better.

For guns, the Wasted Gun will work on some Spirit Roots fish, but you should swap to the Magroot Gun as soon as possible. The damage difference matters when you're fighting aggressive end-game targets.

Lumi and Isolde Quests

End-game quests pay out enormous sums. Prioritize the Lumi and Isolde NPC questlines in Spirit Roots. Isolde's chain is especially important because completing it unlocks Victor's Shop, which sells some of the best gun and tube combinations in the game. Finishing every available quest in this region should be your first order of business before settling into a fish-farming routine.

Whale Hunting for Maximum Profit

The single most profitable activity in Abyss is killing Whales in Spirit Roots. Whales function as mini-bosses — you can't catch them with a harpoon, only kill them and collect the drops. Each whale drops multiple chunks of meat and occasionally a head. Regular chunks sell for roughly $2,600–$3,900 depending on weight, while heads are worth about three times more (a 54 kg head sells for around $9,400). Mutated whales push these numbers even higher.

Whales spawn in the back cavern area of Spirit Roots, behind the large tree. They're relatively rare, but you can find a few per hour. Server hopping is an effective way to hunt them more consistently — leaving the game while in the ocean and rejoining places you in the same spot with a fresh server's fish spawns. Just watch your oxygen, since it doesn't reset on rejoin. Focused whale farming can generate over $100,000 in 30 minutes with decent luck, and up to $200,000–$300,000 per hour under ideal conditions.

Note: Whales deal massive damage, especially the larger ones. Dodge their charges by swimming downward rather than upward. Store your whale chunks in the portable stash before selling — dying costs you 25% of your carried fish and a percentage of your held cash. Selling everything at once after a full farming session minimizes risk.

Other Profitable End-Game Fish

If you're still gearing up or waiting for whale spawns, the Sailfish and Hammerhead Shark are the best alternative targets. Both are Epic-rarity fish that sell well, though they're aggressive. For players running weaker loadouts, Pacific Fanfish, Napoleon, and Jellyfish (watch out for its sting) offer lower but still meaningful income compared to earlier regions. Even common fish in Spirit Roots are worth more than their counterparts elsewhere.

Passive Boosts That Increase All Earnings

Races With Cash Bonuses

Certain races in Abyss provide passive buffs that increase money earned from selling fish. The best options for cash bonuses include Spirit, Anglerfish, Shark, Kraken, and Sea Angel. You can reroll your race using Star Shards, so if you land on one of these early, it compounds your earnings across every method described above.

The King's Fortune Artifact

Artifacts are obtained by cracking geodes found while fishing. Most artifacts provide utility bonuses like extra weight capacity or cooldown reduction, but King's Fortune is currently the only artifact that grants a direct 10% cash bonus on fish sales. Equip it whenever you're farming for money.

Treasure Chests and Free Income

Treasure chests are scattered across all three regions — on the starter island, inside the Ancient Sands dome, and throughout Spirit Roots. Walk up to one and press E to open it for free money, potions, oxygen pods, or Star Shards. They're easy to miss, especially in the deeper areas.

Buying the Minimap for $2,450 from the Jeff NPC in Ancient Sands helps locate nearby chests and quest NPCs. Some quests also reward keys to secret chests, which contain significantly larger lump-sum payouts than regular ones. Claim your daily rewards as well — the amounts are small, but they add up over time.

Money-making in Abyss scales dramatically as you move through the three regions. Early on, quests and Salmon farming keep you moving forward. In the mid-game, Bigmouthfish and Sharks start generating real wealth. And once you reach Spirit Roots with proper equipment, whale hunting becomes the fastest path to six-figure earnings. Match your strategy to your current gear, always chase mutated fish, and store valuable catches in your portable stash before risking a deep dive.
