Mutations in Run for Brainrots change a brainrot's appearance and multiply its income — sometimes dramatically. Each brainrot can carry only one mutation at a time, and the difference between a default unit and one with a top-tier mutation is the difference between pocket change and serious earnings. Some mutations spawn naturally, while others require specific in-game events or admin-triggered moments to appear.
Quick answer: The two strongest mutations are Rainbow and Divine, both offering a 10× income multiplier. Rainbow has a 1% natural spawn chance on the red carpet; Divine activates during the Divine event, which currently triggers every half hour.

Permanent Mutations — Always Available
Four mutations can be obtained at any time through normal gameplay. They spawn on the conveyor belt without needing any special event or admin intervention.
| Mutation | Multiplier | Spawn Chance | Appearance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Default | 1× | Standard | Original look, no change |
| Gold | 1.25× | ~50% | Yellow / gold tint |
| Diamond | 1.5× | ~20.4% | Cyan / diamond blue |
| Rainbow | 10× | ~1% | Cycles through RGB colors |
Gold and Diamond are by far the most common mutations you'll encounter. Nearly every session will produce a steady stream of both. Rainbow, on the other hand, is exceptionally rare at roughly a 1-in-100 spawn rate on the red carpet, but its 10× multiplier makes it one of the two most valuable mutations in the entire game.

Limited Mutations — Event and Admin Exclusive
The remaining mutations are tied to specific in-game events. Most of these are currently unobtainable through regular play and only appear when an admin triggers the corresponding event during an Admin Abuse session. The sole exception right now is Divine, which activates on a recurring timer.
| Mutation | Multiplier | Event Trigger | Appearance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bloodrot | 2× | Bloodmoon event | Dark red |
| Candy | 4× | Candy Aurora event | Pink |
| Lava | 6× | Molten event | Neon orange |
| Galaxy | 7× | Galactic event | Neon purple |
| Yin Yang | 7.5× | Yin Yang event | Black and white |
| Radioactive | 8.5× | Radioactive event | Neon green with hatch texture |
| Cursed | 9× | Cursed event | Red and black with red eyes |
| Divine | 10× | Divine event (every ~30 min) | Bright yellow/white with symbol texture |
Every limited mutation except Divine is currently labeled as Admin Abuse Exclusive, meaning you can only get them when an admin manually spawns the associated event. When these events do fire, affected brainrots on the field have a mild chance of receiving the mutation.
Divine stands apart because it still activates on a regular schedule — roughly every half hour — giving players a recurring window to land 10× brainrots without waiting for an admin.

Full Mutation Ranking from Worst to Best
| Rank | Mutation | Multiplier | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11th | Default | 1× | Obtainable |
| 10th | Gold | 1.25× | Obtainable |
| 9th | Diamond | 1.5× | Obtainable |
| 8th | Bloodrot | 2× | Admin Abuse only |
| 7th | Candy | 4× | Admin Abuse only |
| 6th | Lava | 6× | Admin Abuse only |
| 5th | Galaxy | 7× | Admin Abuse only |
| 4th | Yin Yang | 7.5× | Admin Abuse only |
| 3rd | Radioactive | 8.5× | Admin Abuse only |
| 2nd | Cursed | 9× | Admin Abuse only |
| 1st (tied) | Rainbow | 10× | Obtainable |
| 1st (tied) | Divine | 10× | Obtainable |
Rainbow and Divine share the top spot at 10×, but Divine has a slight practical edge. Brainrots with the Divine mutation can also receive an exclusive trait, pushing their total value even higher than a Rainbow counterpart with the same base stats.
How Mutations Stack with Traits
Mutations and traits are separate systems. A brainrot can carry one mutation and one trait simultaneously. When both are present, the total multiplier is the sum of the two individual multipliers, minus 1×. So a brainrot with a 10× Rainbow mutation and a 4× trait would have a combined multiplier of 13× (10 + 4 − 1), not 14×.
This stacking mechanic means chasing high-multiplier mutations is only half the equation. Pairing a Rainbow or Divine mutation with a strong trait like Strawberry (8×) or Meowl (7×) produces the most profitable brainrots possible.

Mutation Index and Base Color Unlocks
Collecting every obtainable brainrot in a single mutation type unlocks a unique base color for your home area. You can track your progress toward each mutation's collection through the in-game index and switch between unlocked base colors in the settings menu. This gives long-term collectors a reason to pursue full sets of Gold, Diamond, Rainbow, and Divine brainrots beyond the raw income benefits.
Rarity vs. Power — They Don't Always Match
Rainbow is one of the two most powerful mutations, but it isn't the rarest. That distinction likely belongs to Yin Yang or Bloodrot. The Yin Yang event has only been triggered roughly three times during Admin Abuse sessions, making Yin Yang brainrots exceptionally scarce. Bloodrot has appeared more frequently during admin events but remains far harder to find than any permanently obtainable mutation.
If you're optimizing purely for income, focus on Rainbow spawns during normal play and Divine events on their half-hour cycle. If you're collecting for rarity and trading value, the limited mutations — especially Yin Yang and Cursed — carry significant prestige precisely because they're so difficult to obtain.
