Every Top-Tier Spear in Crimson Desert and How to Get Each One

Every Top-Tier Spear in Crimson Desert and How to Get Each One

Crimson Desert's spear class doesn't hand you anything for free. The best polearms in Pearl Abyss's open-world RPG are scattered across frozen mountain caves, bandit-infested quarries, and hidden sanctums — none of them sitting on the critical path. Each one fills a different role depending on where you are in the game, and knowing which spear to chase (and when) can save you hours of wasted effort.

Quick answer: The Kuku Flame Spear is the strongest all-around spear thanks to its per-hit explosions and full refinement potential, but it requires a crafted blueprint. For raw early-game damage, the Soul Spear's 27 ATK is unmatched, though it cannot be upgraded or socketed.

Kuku Flame Spear — Best AoE Spear

The Kuku Flame Spear triggers an explosion on every single hit. Light attacks, heavy attacks, spinning slashes — all of them produce a targeted blast that catches enemies in a wide radius, including those off to the side. It cannot be sold, and it has no sockets, so you won't be attaching any Abyss Gear to it. The trade-off is that it supports full refinement levels, meaning you can push it to max without degradation.

Crafting the Kuku Flame Spear

Step 1: Unlock the Sanctum of Exaltation in northern Pailune. Completing it awards Blueprint II: Kuku Flame Spear.

Step 2: Gather the materials — Kuku Spear x1, Flame Spear x1, Small Battery x10, and Lubricant x50.

Step 3: Travel to Grimnir's Kuku shop in Hernand and craft the spear there.

⚠️
Because the Kuku Flame Spear has zero sockets, it won't benefit from any Abyss Gear builds. Plan your loadout accordingly — this weapon is purely about raw explosive damage on contact.

Soul Spear — Highest Raw ATK in the Early Game

With 27 damage per hit, the Soul Spear holds the highest raw attack stat of any weapon you can realistically obtain in the early portions of Crimson Desert. It's a ghostly, translucent blue two-handed weapon that fires spectral projectiles at surrounding enemies every time you score a kill, on a 10-second cooldown. The crowd-control potential is significant during group encounters.

The downsides are real, though. The Soul Spear cannot be upgraded, and it doesn't accept any Abyss Gear. It sells for 4.94 silver, but selling it early on would be a mistake, given how much damage it puts out before mid-game weapons catch up. Expect it to fall off against late-game bosses once enemies scale past its fixed stats.

Where to find the Soul Spear

Step 1: Open the map and locate Hernand. Zoom in just above the letter "H" — the entrance sits between the two upper lines of the H on the map text.

Step 2: Head to the Argent Peaks on the western side of Hernand. The entrance to the Antumbra Ritual Grounds is on the mountainside. A rock bridge visible to the northwest serves as a reliable landmark when you're above the entrance.

Step 3: Inside the grounds, jump and land on the platform on the south side of the lower level. The Soul Spear floats eerily at the center of that room. Hold the interact button (X/Square on controller, E on keyboard) to pick it up.

💀
The Antumbra Ritual Grounds are packed with floating magic users who fire projectiles. You don't need to kill them to grab the spear. If you rush in and grab it without fighting, you can intentionally die and choose "Revive at Checkpoint" — you'll respawn outside with the Soul Spear still in your inventory.

Tip: Visiting at night and raising your lamp from a high vantage point can reveal the entrance more easily, as torches on the mountainside become visible in the dark.

Spear of Righteousness — Most Customizable Spear

The Spear of Righteousness is a two-handed weapon with a silver, curled horn tip and a yellow-black flag on the shaft. Its defining feature is five Abyss Gear slots, making it the most customizable spear in the game for players building around specific gear synergies. It sells for 6.21 silver and can be refined at Hernand's smithy, Turnali.

It drops from Bleed Bandits, but the drop is not guaranteed. You'll likely need multiple clears before it appears. The most reliable farming spots are Karin Quarry and Perwin Quarry — both have enough enemy density to make repeat runs manageable without excessive downtime between attempts.

Vow of the Dead King — Best Polearm for Sustained Damage

Technically a halberd rather than a traditional spear, the Vow of the Dead King fits comfortably into a polearm playstyle. It sells for 18.44 silver and carries a flat 4% damage increase against different enemy types — a bonus broad enough to stay relevant through most of the game. That percentage multiplier stacks well as you progress into areas with diverse enemy compositions.

Step 1: Travel to the Frostveiled Castle Ruins and clear out the bandits occupying the area.

Step 2: Find the staircase that descends into the castle's lower level and head down.

Step 3: Continue through the hall past any traps. At the end, look for an unlit lantern next to a set of metal bars. The Vow of the Dead King is lying inside.

Bismuth Spear — Best Damage-Over-Time Spear

The Bismuth Spear is a two-handed weapon with a unique Bismuth affinity. Each hit latches a pseudo-poison effect onto the target, stacking up to three charges with each charge on a 5-second cooldown. Against enemies that survive long enough for all three stacks to build, the cumulative damage is substantial. It sells for 4.22 silver.

The catch is durability. The Bismuth Spear has a finite Durability Meter, and when it runs out, the weapon is permanently gone. Don't commit to it as a primary weapon unless you're comfortable losing it eventually.

Step 1: Travel to the Well of Enlightenment in Forebearer's Barrens.

Step 2: On arrival, look for the circular pool in the area.

Step 3: To the right of the pool is a small clay oven-like structure. Enter through the low opening. The Bismuth Spear is inside.

Which Spear to Prioritize by Game Phase

If you're still in the early game and want the biggest immediate power spike, the Soul Spear is the clear pick. Its 27 ATK outpaces everything else you'll have access to at that point, and the spectral projectile effect makes clearing groups of enemies dramatically faster. Grab it as soon as you can reach the Argent Peaks west of Hernand — it's obtainable right after unlocking glide at the end of Act 1.

For mid-game and beyond, the Spear of Righteousness becomes more valuable because of its five Abyss Gear slots. The Soul Spear's inability to accept any Abyss Gear or upgrades means it hits a hard ceiling, while the Spear of Righteousness scales with whatever gear synergies you build around it. The farming process at Karin or Perwin Quarry takes patience, but the long-term payoff is worth it.

The Kuku Flame Spear is the endgame pick for players who want consistent AoE without worrying about Abyss Gear management. Its per-hit explosions and full refinement path give it the longest effective lifespan of any spear in the game, though the crafting requirements — particularly the blueprint from the Sanctum of Exaltation in Pailune — mean you won't have it until later in your playthrough. If you're running a polearm build through the final stretches of Crimson Desert, this is the one to aim for.
