Find Larvitar and evolve it to Tyranitar in Pokémon Legends: Z‑A
Pokémon Legends: Z‑APrecise rooftop locations in Lumiose, access requirements, evolution levels, and how Tyranitarite unlocks Mega Tyranitar.
Larvitar shows up on rooftops across Lumiose and later in a Wild Zone, with some spawns gated by traversal tools or inactive Holovators. If you’re hunting early, focus on the city rooftops; Wild Zone 15 opens later and is initially unreachable where Larvitar appears.
| Area | Exact spot | Access requirement | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vert Sector 2 (Vert Plaza) | Rooftop reached from the plaza ladder; across a small gap | Climb ladder; either a precise roll over boxes or wait for the glide ability | Daytime spawn on city rooftops; an Alpha may appear here. |
| Vernal Avenue (east side), south of Prism Tower | “C”-shaped building rooftops; climb the east-side ladder, follow the roofs to the lower part of the “C” | Glide ability required to reach the lower curve of the “C” | Single Larvitar spawn on this lower rooftop. |
| Bleu Sector 7 | Rooftop near the sector’s Holovator | Restore and use the local Holovator | Standard rooftop encounter once the lift is active. |
| Jaune Sector 6 | Rooftop south of the Holovator | Repair and use the Holovator | Another roof spawn after lift access is restored. |
| Wild Zone 15 | Rooftop in the zone | Holovator access; initially offline when the zone first unlocks | Larvitar appears here later; spawns during the evening. |
Time of day matters: Larvitar is available on Lumiose rooftops during the day, while Wild Zone 15 spawns show up in the evening.

Traversal and timing: Holovators, gliding, and the rooftop gap
- Holovators gate several rooftop spawns. When you first reach some areas (including Wild Zone 15), nearby Holovators may be offline; they become usable as you progress the story.
- The glide ability unlocks via the main missions and makes the Vernal Avenue “C” route straightforward. Without it, you can’t reach that lower rooftop.
- On Vert Sector 2, you can cross the small rooftop gap early with a precise roll off stacked boxes. If that feels finicky, return once you have the glide ability.
Evolve Larvitar into Pupitar and Tyranitar (levels)
Larvitar’s line evolves by leveling—no items or special conditions required.
| Stage | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Larvitar | — | Rock/Ground |
| Pupitar | 30 | Rock/Ground |
| Tyranitar | 55 | Rock/Dark |

Mega Tyranitar and how Tyranitarite is obtained
Tyranitar can Mega Evolve when holding Tyranitarite. You don’t buy this stone from Quasartico Inc. or the Stone Emporium; it’s awarded late in the main story after a fight with a Mega Tyranitar. Once you have the Tyranitarite, give it to Tyranitar, and it will Mega Evolve during battles.

If you want Mega Tyranitar on your team, it’s worth grabbing Larvitar from a city rooftop early so it can gain levels naturally. The stone arrives late; having a level 55 Tyranitar ready means you can Mega Evolve as soon as the story hands you Tyranitarite.
