Fisch mutations explained: Every multiplier and how to trigger them

Mutations are the real economy drivers in Fisch. Every mutation is a visual twist on your catch and a multiplier on its sell price, and stacking the right ones is how a plain fish turns into a serious payout.

There are now well over 190 named mutations in the game, spread across regular drops, admin-only effects, and time-limited event rewards. They don’t all pay out equally, and many only appear under very specific conditions: a certain rod, a particular weather event, or even a one-off admin event.

How Fisch mutations work

When you hook a fish, the game can roll one or more extra properties for it:

  • Mutations – the named effects like Tryhard, Sunken, or Neon. These change the look of the fish and apply a value multiplier.
  • Attributes – Big, Giant, Shiny, and Sparkling, which also add multipliers and can stack with mutations.

You can usually see that a fish is mutated during the reel-in mini-game: Electric fish crackle, Abyssal fish are shadowy, Mythical fish glow, and so on. Once landed, the mutation name and its multiplier appear on the fish’s info panel and apply directly to its sell price.

Mutations are RNG-based, but you can manipulate that RNG heavily with rods, enchantments, events, baits, locations, and NPCs.

All Fisch mutation multipliers (regular, admin, and limited)

The tables below group mutations by how the game treats them: standard drops, admin-event exclusives, and limited-time/event-only effects. Values are the sell-price multipliers applied to the fish’s base value; attributes such as Big, Giant, Shiny, and Sparkling stack on top of these.

Fish attributes that stack with mutations

On top of mutations, Fisch rolls separate “attribute” flags. These don’t change which mutation you got, but they stack more multipliers on top:

Attribute Effect Value multiplier
Big Increases size ≈1.99x+
Giant Greatly increases size ≈1.99x+
Sparkling Strong glow effect 1.85x
Shiny Metallic sheen 1.85x

A high-end catch might be, for example, a Mythical + Tryhard + Giant + Sparkling fish. Each piece multiplies the base value again.

Event and weather effects that boost mutation rates

Several global events modify the odds of pulling specific mutations or any mutation at all. These roll randomly when the day-night cycle flips.

  • Mutation Surge – raises the chance of any fish having a mutation by 15%.
  • Night of the Luminous – increases Sparkling attribute rate by 10%.
  • Shiny Surge – increases Shiny attribute rate by 3%.
  • Eclipse (weather) – sharply boosts Solarblaze mutation rate.
  • Blizzard (weather) – boosts Blighted mutation rate.
  • Avalanche (weather) – boosts Sleet mutation rate.
Tip: combining these events with the right rods and enchantments is how you consistently hit high-end mutations like Solarblaze, Blighted, and Sleet.

Rods that unlock or boost specific Fisch mutations

Most of the iconic, high-value mutations are either locked behind specific rods or have their odds heavily tilted by them. A few examples:

  • The Lost Rod – enables the Lost mutation.
  • King's Rod and Heaven's Rod – raise the chance of Big and Giant attributes.
  • Abyssal Specter Rod – boosts Abyssal mutation rate.
  • Seasons Rod – only way to obtain Seasonal mutations (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter).
  • Aurora Rod – grants access to the Aurora mutation.
  • Phoenix Rod – increases Scorched mutation chance.
  • Ethereal Prism Rod – enables Prismize.
  • Rod Of The Zenith – only way to roll Wrath.
  • No-Life Rod – boosts Hexed.
  • Zeus Rod – rolls Charred and Electric Shock.
  • Summit Rod / Avalanche Rod – increase Sleet rate.
  • Poseidon Rod – unlocks King's Blessing.
  • Haunted Rod – post-Halloween access to Ghastly and Sinister.
  • Midas Rod – raises Midas odds.
  • Celestial Rod – only way to get Celestial.
  • Sunken Rod – grants Studded.
  • Voyager Rod – boosts Fossilized.
  • Auric Rod – enables the gold set: Aureate, Aureolin, Aurous, Aurulent, Aurelian.
  • Kraken Rod – only way to trigger Tentacle Surge.
  • Trident Rod – only way to catch Heavenly.
  • Free Spirit Rod – enables Bloom.
  • Crystalized Rod – boosts Crystalized.
  • Mythical Rod – increases Mythical mutation odds.
  • Brick Rod – grants Studded and can roll the Awesome mutation at a low rate.
  • Rod of The Eternal King / Scurvy Rod – improve Greedy odds.
  • Ice Warpers Rod (with Summit Rod) – required for Blighted.
  • Seraphic Rod – increases Blessed mutation rate.
Tip: for a specific mutation, always prioritize its matching rod over generic luck boosts. Many of the rare ones simply never roll without the right rod equipped.

Enchantments that increase specific mutation chances

Enchantments on your rod can quietly shift the mutation table in your favor. These are some of the key ones:

  • Abyssal – +10% Abyssal mutation rate.
  • Noir – +10% to Albino and Darkened.
  • Blessed – +2% to Sparkling and Shiny attributes.
  • Mutated – +7% chance that a fish has any mutation.
  • Ghastly – +20% Translucent mutation rate.
  • Quantum – improves Subspace mutation odds.
  • Chaotic – improves Chaotic mutation odds.
  • Blood Reckoning – improves Sanguine mutation odds.
  • Anomalous – improves Anomalous mutation odds.

These bonuses stack with event modifiers and rod passives, so combining all three is how you push into the very rare mutation territory.

NPCs, chests, nukes, and other mutation tricks

Using NPCs for extra mutations

Two NPCs play a direct role in mutation management:

  • Appraiser (Moosewood) – re-rolls a fish as if it were just caught, with a chance to apply a new mutation and raise its value. Event bonuses apply to these rolls as well.
  • Chiseler (Ancient Isle) – converts Amber-mutated fish into either Revitalized or Purified, both of which have much stronger multipliers than base Amber.
Note: appraising can also remove an existing good mutation or attribute. Avoid appraising anything that’s already clearly valuable (for example Mythical, Sunken, or stacked Shiny/Sparkling fish).

Treasure chests and the Sunken mutation

Treasure chests spawned from Treasure Maps can drop fish with the Sunken mutation, which sits in the 4.5x range and is one of the more reliable high-tier boosts if you’re consistently mapping and digging up chests.

Using Nukes for Nuclear fish

When a Nuke explodes, every fish in the blast radius gains the Nuclear mutation for a limited time window of up to 30 minutes. During this period, all catches in that water count as Nuclear and benefit from its 6x multiplier.

Tip: if you’re going to detonate a Nuke, coordinate it with good bait and a strong rod so you’re multiplying already high-value fish.

Bait and location requirements for specific mutations

Baits that directly apply mutations

A few baits do more than improve catch quality; they force or strongly bias specific mutations:

  • Chocolate Fish – applies the Chocolate mutation.
  • Holly Berry – rolls the Jolly mutation, especially during Fischmas.
  • Lucky – aims for the Blarney mutation.
  • Aurora Bait – applies the Aurora mutation.
  • Hourglass Bait – forces Neon.
  • Colossal Ink Bait – forces Colossal Ink.

Because these baits are rare, they’re best saved for high-value fish pools or when weather and mutation events are active.

Locations with exclusive mutations

Some mutations only exist in specific zones, no matter what rod or bait you use elsewhere:

  • The Depths – only place where you can catch Abyssal-mutated fish.
  • Grand Reef – only place for the Electric mutation.

Combining these locations with their matching enchantments and rods is essential if you’re targeting those mutations for collection or cash.

Practical mutation farming setups

To make all of this usable, it helps to think in terms of focused setups rather than chasing everything at once.

High-roller setup (general rare mutations)

Step 1: Equip a rod with the Mutated enchantment and, if possible, one that passively boosts a rare mutation you care about (for example Mythical Rod, Abyssal Specter Rod, or Auric Rod).

Step 2: Wait for Mutation Surge or at least Shiny/Sparkling events, then fish in a high-value location like deeper waters or rare-fish spots.

Seasonal grinding setup

Step 1: Equip Seasons Rod and, during that season’s event window, add any relevant bait (Holly Berry for Jolly during Fischmas, for example).

Step 2: Stack Blessed or other supporting enchants and fish continuously during event weather like Blizzard or Eclipse when they appear.

Conversion and appraise setup

Step 1: When you pull Amber fish, bank them and bring them to the Chiseler on Ancient Isle to convert into Revitalized or Purified.

Step 2: Use the Appraiser on Moosewood only on mid-tier or plain fish you’re willing to risk, ideally when Mutation Surge is active.

Once you start thinking in terms of multipliers, rods, and events instead of just random luck, Fisch’s mutation system turns into a set of levers you can pull on purpose. The grind doesn’t disappear, but the payoff from a well-built setup makes every rare glint on the line a lot more satisfying.
