Springfield Island hides a Mythic with a very literal name: Jebediah’s Protective Helm. It’s the severed head from the town’s founder statue, and it grants a single-use shield against the next headshot you take. Here’s where to grab it, how it behaves once equipped, and the downsides you should weigh before making room for it in your loadout.
Find the Jebediah Springfield statue (location)
Go to Springfield Town Square. The Jebediah Springfield statue stands in the center of the plaza, easy to spot once you drop into the town.
Knock the statue’s head off (steps)
- Hit the statue’s head with your pickaxe or shoot it a few times.
- When the head falls to the ground, interact to pick it up.
- The item enters your inventory and is automatically applied to your character’s head, even if it’s not in your active slot.
Jebediah’s Protective Helm effects (what it does)
Once you have it, the helm passively protects you from the first headshot that lands on you. That single headshot is fully negated. After absorbing that hit, the helm pops off your character and lands nearby.
There’s a brief delay before you can pick it up again. After that delay, you can retrieve it and reapply the protection by carrying it in your inventory.
Tracking and inventory trade-offs
Wearing the helm broadcasts your location on the map in the same way a Medallion does. Enemies can track you while you have it equipped.
It also occupies a valuable inventory slot. You’re spending one slot for a single headshot block at a time, with a short downtime after it triggers. That trade makes sense if you expect long-range duels or sniper threats, and it’s less attractive if you need every slot for healing, mobility, or ammo.

When to carry it
Jebediah’s helm shines when headshot risk is high: rotating across open ground, crossing sightlines, or facing players known to carry high-damage, precision weapons. If you’re stacked on essentials and can spare a slot, the one-shot insurance can flip a fight. If your kit is already cramped, the map reveal and inventory cost may outweigh the benefit.

Bottom line: head to Town Square, drop Jebediah’s head, and decide whether a single headshot immunity is worth a slot — and being visible on the map.
