Fortnite's Stabilize the Rift Event — Defeat Dark Voyager Drones for Vaulted Mythic Loot

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 introduced a new category of match events called rift anomalies, and the Stabilize the Rift anomaly is one of the most rewarding. When it triggers during a Battle Royale match, a massive tear in reality opens up at a random spot on the map, surrounded by a swarm of Dark Voyager Drones. Destroy every drone, and the rift collapses — dropping Legendary and Mythic weapons that are otherwise vaulted this season.

Quick answer: Eliminate all Dark Voyager Drones around the rift tear using any weapon (SMGs and ARs work best), then pick up the vaulted Legendary or Mythic item that spawns once the rift stabilizes.

How the Stabilize the Rift Anomaly Works

Rift anomalies are match-wide events that affect every player on the island equally. The Stabilize the Rift variant was unlocked through the Showdown progression system in Chapter 7 Season 2, where Team Foundation and Team Ice King compete to add new content throughout the season. When this particular anomaly fires, a Rift Anomaly icon appears on your HUD, marking the location of the tear. The event is not tied to any fixed POI — it spawns randomly across the Golden Coast map.

The rift itself resembles the reality tears connected to the Dark Voyager's storyline from Chapter 7 Season 1, when the Dark Harvester was using rifts to reach another reality. Small Dark Voyager Drones materialize around the tear and begin scanning it. Your job is to wipe them all out before another squad does.

⚠️
The Stabilize the Rift anomaly briefly appeared in matches earlier than intended — Epic accidentally enabled it instead of the Slapperoni Pizza unlock from Team Ice King's track. It was quickly disabled and has since been re-enabled through normal Showdown progression.

Destroying Dark Voyager Drones in Chapter 7 Season 2

Despite their intimidating appearance as miniature versions of the Dark Harvester, the drones go down fast. A few bursts from any assault rifle or SMG in the current loot pool will take one out. Their numbers can look overwhelming at first, but the fight is straightforward once you understand their single attack pattern.

Step 1: Head toward the Rift Anomaly icon on your HUD. You'll see the rift tear and a cluster of drones hovering around it.

Step 2: Open fire with an AR or SMG. Each drone only takes a handful of shots to destroy. Focus on one at a time to thin the swarm quickly.

Step 3: Watch for the laser beam charge-up. When a drone begins glowing and charging its laser, move directly underneath it — the beam fires in a straight line and can't track you at close range below the drone.

Step 4: Exploit the stun window. After a drone fires its laser blast, it freezes for roughly one second. Use that opening to land free shots without any return fire.

Step 5: Keep eliminating drones until a progress bar fills completely. Once every drone is destroyed, the rift stabilizes and collapses, dropping your loot reward on the ground.

Tip: Because the anomaly icon is visible to everyone in the match, expect company. Treat the event like a supply drop — loot is valuable, and other players will contest it.

All Vaulted Weapon Rewards from the Rift Anomaly

When the rift collapses, it leaves behind one randomly selected weapon from a pool of Legendary and Mythic items pulled from previous Fortnite seasons. These weapons are otherwise unavailable in the Chapter 7 Season 2 loot pool, making this the only way to get your hands on them during a match.

Weapon Type
Baron's Double Down Pistol Pistol
Thorne's Vampiric Blade Melee
Explosive Repeater Rifle Rifle
Modular Gatekeeper Shotgun Shotgun
Havoc Suppressed Assault Rifle Assault Rifle
Chains of Hades Melee
Grapple Blade Melee / Mobility
The Kneecapper Weapon
Typhoon Blade Melee

You receive one item per completed event, chosen at random from the table above. Epic may expand this loot table as Chapter 7 Season 2 progresses.

Where the Stabilize the Rift Anomaly Fits in Season 2

The Stabilize the Rift event is one of several rift anomalies rotating through matches on the Golden Coast. Other anomalies include Rivalry Rumble, which forces every player into a rivalry simultaneously, and Storm Focus, which reshapes the Storm circle and reveals its final position at the start of the match. Epic has confirmed that more anomalies will be added later in the season.

The Dark Voyager's presence in Season 2 extends beyond just the drone swarm. The villain's headquarters, Dark Dominion, is a new named location on the map featuring a reassembled Zero Point shard. Players who completed the Interference and Redacted story quests in Chapter 7, Season 1 already investigated the Dark Voyager's operations at Lethal Labs, and the Stabilize the Rift anomaly continues that narrative thread — the drones appear to be scanning the rifts for intelligence on behalf of the Dark Voyager.

If you spot the Rift Anomaly icon flash onto your HUD mid-match, it's worth the detour. The vaulted weapons you can pull from a stabilized rift are some of the strongest items in the game, and the drone fight itself takes under a minute with decent loot already in hand.
