Witch’s Homework is a permanent progression system in Genshin Impact’s Version 6.2 “Luna III” that upgrades a small group of Mondstadt characters and Durin through special quests. Everything runs through a quest item called The Little Witch’s Dictionary, written by Alice and the Hexen Circle, and culminates in new Hexerei: Secret Rite buffs and a team bonus when you field multiple Hexerei characters together.
Requirements to access Witch’s Homework
Before any of the new quests appear, the game checks two separate conditions: one for unlocking Witch’s Homework itself, and another for each character-specific assignment.
- Version requirement: The account must be updated to Version “Luna III” (Genshin Impact 6.2).
- Story requirement: Archon Quest Prologue: Act III “Song of the Dragon and Freedom” must be completed.
- System unlock: The tutorial quest “Witch’s Homework: Solution” must be finished to obtain The Little Witch’s Dictionary.
- Character requirement: For each Hexerei character, you must already own them and have them at level 70 or higher to start their personal homework quest.
Once all of that is in place, Witch’s Homework appears in the Events Overview and as a new Secret Rite talent node on eligible characters’ talent screens.

How to start Witch’s Homework and get The Little Witch’s Dictionary
Step 1: Open the in-game Events Overview menu and select the Witch’s Homework entry from the list on the left. Use the “Go to Quest” button to track “Witch’s Homework: Solution”.
Step 2: Follow the navigation to Mondstadt’s library and speak with Lisa to accept a premium commission involving a large shipment of books.

Step 3: Sort through the stacks of donated books in the library. Near the end of the task, you’ll find a suspicious book titled The Little Witch’s Dictionary.

Step 4: Interact with the dictionary. Opening it pulls you into a mage’s domain where Alice explains the purpose of Witch’s Homework and the Hexerei assignments tailored for Mondstadt’s people.

Step 5: After the conversation with Alice ends, talk to Lisa again in the library to wrap up the commission and complete “Witch’s Homework: Solution”.
Finishing this quest permanently adds The Little Witch’s Dictionary to your account and unlocks the Witch’s Homework interface, where all Hexerei assignments live.
How to claim your free Hexerei character (Razor, Fischl, or Sucrose)
Completing “Witch’s Homework: Solution” also gives you a one-time choice of a free 4‑star Hexerei character.
- Available choices: Razor, Fischl, or Sucrose.
- Availability: The selection is permanently available after the Luna III update; there is no limited-time end date.
- Limit: You can only invite one of the three to your party through this feature.
Step 1: After “Witch’s Homework: Solution” is complete, open the Witch’s Homework entry from the Events Overview again.
Step 2: Use the event menu option that lets you invite a Hexerei character. The screen shows Razor, Fischl, and Sucrose as the available options.

Step 3: Select your preferred character and confirm the invitation. If you already own them at constellation 6, the invitation converts into the usual starglitter compensation.

Once chosen, that character joins your account (or gains a constellation) exactly like a normal 4‑star pull.
How Hexerei: Secret Rite buffs work
Witch’s Homework drives two connected upgrade layers:
- Individual Secret Rite buff: A new talent node that modifies a character’s existing kit.
- Team bonus: A shared effect called Hexerei: Secret Rite that activates when you run at least two Hexerei characters in the same party and have completed their homework quests.
For now, the Hexerei roster is tightly focused:
| Hexerei Character | Homework Quest Title |
|---|---|
| Sucrose | Of Wonderland Flowers |
| Durin | Of This World |
| Mona | Of Untested Insight |
| Venti | Of the Waking of Wind |
| Klee | Of Leaves That Spark |
| Albedo | Of Questions Beyond Questions |
| Razor | Of the Little Wolf Pack |
| Fischl | Of the Unexpected |
Each character’s Secret Rite buff is different. Some modify normal attacks, others adjust elemental skills, bursts, or constellations, and the exact details vary per kit. Once unlocked, the buff is permanent and doesn’t consume materials or require talent levels to maintain.
On top of that, teams with two or more Hexerei characters and completed homework quests trigger the Hexerei: Secret Rite team bonus. This bonus improves talents and constellations further when the condition is met, rewarding you for building around Mondstadt’s witch-connected cast.

How to unlock a character’s Witch’s Homework quest
Every Hexerei character has their own assignment inside The Little Witch’s Dictionary. The game exposes this through a new lock icon on their talent screen once they meet the requirements.
Step 1: Level the character you want to at least 70 and make sure they’re already in your roster.
Step 2: Open the character menu, select that character, and go to the Talents tab.
Step 3: Look for the new locked node labeled as their Secret Rite. Select it to open a panel with a “Go to Homework” button.
Step 4: Hit “Go to Homework” to open The Little Witch’s Dictionary interface, which lists all Hexerei characters and their assignments.
Step 5: Choose the relevant character inside the dictionary and press Accept Quest. This adds their Witch’s Homework to your quest log and places a navigation marker in the correct region.
From here, each quest plays out like a short, bespoke story involving that character and a few combat or puzzle beats. Completing it immediately unlocks their Secret Rite talent and updates the team bonus logic.

Fischl Witch’s Homework quest (Of the Unexpected)
Fischl’s assignment pushes you across Mondstadt, Liyue, and Nod‑Krai, with a cameo from some familiar publishing faces.
Step 1: Start the homework to find Fischl in front of the Adventurers’ Guild in Mondstadt. She’s looking for an editor, which points you to Onodera standing near Good Hunter.

Step 2: Talk to Onodera. He explains that someone called Mr. Nine is in trouble and may be linked to Chang the Ninth in Liyue.

Step 3: Teleport to Qingce Village and climb the ladders up to Chang the Ninth’s home. Investigate the clue outside his door and another near his table and chair.
Step 4: Once Chang the Ninth finally appears and confirms he’s not Mr. Nine, the quest automatically moves you to Nod‑Krai to chase the real lead.
Step 5: On arrival, a Seelie is being attacked by two Wilderness Exiles. Defeat them to protect the Seelie, then follow it a short distance to safety.

Step 6: After meeting Nicole and the real “Mr. Nine,” Fischl’s Hexerei: Secret Rite buff unlocks. Speak with Chang the Ninth one last time to close out the quest.
Venti Witch’s Homework quest (Of the Waking of Wind)
Venti’s homework leans into time, wind, and music, bringing you back to a classic Mondstadt dungeon.
Step 1: Head to Thousand Winds Temple and talk to Venti at the marked location.

Step 2: Venti calls on the wind to guide you toward an “island favored by Time.” Follow the wind currents along the indicated path.
Step 3: Once you reach the spot, play a song with Venti to “summon Time within the Winds.” This is handled through a short interaction rather than a rhythm mini‑game.

Step 4: After the performance, a wave of monsters appears. Defeat all enemies that spawn in front of you.
Step 5: A short dialogue follows where Venti reflects on his new powers. At the end of the conversation, Venti’s Hexerei: Secret Rite buff unlocks and the homework quest completes.
Razor Witch’s Homework quest (Of the Little Wolf Pack)
Razor’s assignment returns to Wolvendom and focuses on defending his pack against a new kind of threat.
Step 1: Travel to Wolvendom in Mondstadt to start the quest.
Step 2: Enter Boreas’ old arena—Razor is waiting inside the wolf god’s home for a conversation.
Step 3: Join Razor as he hunts down Abyssal Monsters along the path. Follow the quest markers and clear each group of enemies.

Step 4: Deeper in the area, you’ll find the wolf pack already fighting dark wolvers. Protect Razor’s wolves by defeating the corrupted enemies.
Step 5: Return inside Boreas’ arena to eliminate a trapped pack of Dark wolves. This is the final combat wave.

Step 6: Speak with Razor one more time. His Hexerei: Secret Rite buff unlocks as soon as the dialogue ends.
Mona Witch’s Homework quest (Of Untested Insight)
Mona’s homework links astrology back to the ruins of Khaenri’ah and plays out as a compact combat trial.
Step 1: Go to Mona’s house to start the quest. The marker sits at her usual Mondstadt‑adjacent residence.

Step 2: After the opening conversation, the game automatically teleports you to the Gates of Khaenri’ah in Sumeru.
Step 3: Mona uses her Sign of Truth, which causes several monsters to appear. Defeat all enemies that spawn to continue.

Step 4: Exchange a brief set of lines with Mona after the fight. When the dialogue concludes, Mona’s Hexerei: Secret Rite buff is granted and the homework quest is marked complete.
Sucrose Witch’s Homework quest (Of Wonderland Flowers)
Sucrose’s homework is the longest of the set, turning into a mini research trip across Mondstadt’s countryside and Dragonspine, finished with a tuning puzzle at the crafting table.
Step 1: Start by going to the Crafting Table in Mondstadt. Talking to Sucrose there kicks off the quest.

Step 2: Travel to Windrise to observe environmental conditions for her experiment.
Step 3: As you approach the marked point, an Eye of the Storm appears. Defeat it to proceed.
Step 4: Head to Springvale and draw water from the pond as requested.
Step 5: Return to the Crafting Table in Mondstadt. Lay out various items on the table until the interface shows a 100% Tuning Rate for Sucrose’s potion. This is a short item‑placement puzzle; you can retry combinations until the bar hits 100 percent.
Step 6: Travel to Dragonspine to test the tuned potion on a specific flower.
Step 7: After the test, an oversized Over‑specced Whopperflower spawns. Defeat it to finish the field trial.

Step 8: Talk to Sucrose after the battle. Her Hexerei: Secret Rite buff unlocks at the end of this conversation, completing her homework.
Why Witch’s Homework matters for team building
Witch’s Homework quietly turns a set of older Mondstadt characters and Durin into a semi‑linked archetype. Each quest is short, but the rewards stack:
- New power budget: Secret Rite buffs give these characters fresh hooks—stronger basics, tweaked bursts, or constellation‑tier effects that arrive the moment the quest finishes.
- Party synergy: Running at least two Hexerei characters switches on the Hexerei: Secret Rite team bonus, which further amplifies talents and constellations in ways tuned around each kit.
- Free roster support: The choice between Razor, Fischl, and Sucrose offers either a brand‑new character for newer accounts or another constellation and starglitter payout for veterans.
Once you’ve finished “Witch’s Homework: Solution,” the system is always there in the background. Any time you pull one of the listed characters and push them to level 70, check their talent page for the Secret Rite node and pick up their homework. It’s an easy way to add value to older Mondstadt mains while nudging you toward Hexen Circle‑flavored team comps.
