Genshin Impact's Lohen Explained — Cryo Polearm DPS Kit, Talents, and Constellations

Lohen is a 5-star Cryo Polearm character headed to Genshin Impact in Version 6.6. His kit, currently in beta testing, positions him as an on-field Cryo DPS whose damage scales directly off how much his teammates contribute during combat. His ascension stat is CRIT DMG, all of his talent multipliers scale off ATK, and he carries the Hexerei trait — granting him conditional damage bonuses when certain thresholds are met.

Quick answer: Lohen enters a special "Stratagem" state through his Elemental Skill, builds Joy through his own attacks and Triumph through teammate damage, then spends both resources on a powerful Cryo nuke called Piercing Frost and his Elemental Burst.

Lohen's Elemental Skill — Stratagem and Piercing Frost

Casting Lohen's Elemental Skill activates the Stratagem state, which is the foundation of his entire gameplay loop. While in Stratagem, Lohen gains access to two distinct point systems — Joy and Triumph — that fuel his most damaging abilities.

ResourceCapHow It's Generated
Joy100Normal Attacks grant 15 Joy per hit; Charged Attacks grant 18 Joy per hit. Gain can occur at most once every 0.1s.
Triumph100 (base)Generated when party members deal damage while Lohen is in Stratagem. Damage ≥1000% of Lohen's Base ATK grants 20 Triumph; anything less grants 1. Each party member can generate Triumph at most once every 0.1s.

Once Joy hits its maximum, Lohen's default Elemental Skill (called Deceptive Maneuver) transforms into Piercing Frost. Activating Piercing Frost consumes all accumulated Joy and Triumph to deal Cryo DMG, with the total damage increasing based on how much Triumph was spent. This loop — attack to build Joy, rely on teammates to build Triumph, then unleash Piercing Frost — is the core of Lohen's damage rotation.

⚠️
Triumph generation heavily rewards teammates who can deal large instances of damage. Sub-DPS characters with high single-hit multipliers will generate 20 Triumph per proc, while chip damage only contributes 1 point at a time.

Lohen's Elemental Burst

Lohen's Elemental Burst also consumes all current Triumph to deal Cryo DMG, with damage scaling based on the amount consumed — similar to Piercing Frost. If Lohen is already in the Stratagem state when the Burst is cast, the Stratagem duration extends by 1.65 seconds. The Burst itself delivers a six-hit sequence of Cryo damage, drawing comparisons to how Wanderer and Wriothesley deliver their burst windows.

Because both Piercing Frost and the Burst consume Triumph, you'll need to decide which ability to spend your Triumph on during each rotation — or rely on constellations that change this dynamic entirely.

Passive Talents

Lohen has four passive talents, each reinforcing his role as a team-dependent Cryo carry.

Talent NameEffect
Forbidden AdmonitionWhile in Stratagem, party members generating Triumph for Lohen grant an extra 60 Triumph if their damage is ≥4000% of Lohen's Base ATK.
Masterpiece of JestWhile in Stratagem, party members who trigger Cryo-related Elemental Reactions gain 15% ATK for 8s. Lohen also gains 15% ATK.
Exuberant ArrivalAfter casting Elemental Skill, Lohen gains the Revelry effect for 9s, increasing Elemental Skill level by 1. If any party member's Normal Attack, Elemental Skill, or Burst talent level is not lower than Lohen's Elemental Skill level, Revelry's duration extends by 6s. Triggers once every 18s.
HexereiWhen Lohen uses Piercing Frost or his Burst with Triumph at 50% or more of its cap, his Normal and Charged Attacks deal 40% increased damage for 6s.

Forbidden Admonition is particularly notable because it creates a massive Triumph spike when teammates land heavy hits. Paired with the base Triumph generation, a well-built sub-DPS teammate can push Lohen's Triumph to maximum almost instantly. Masterpiece of Jest, meanwhile, rewards Freeze and Melt compositions by buffing the entire party's ATK when Cryo reactions occur.

Exuberant Arrival has an unusual condition: it checks whether your teammates' talent levels are at least as high as Lohen's Elemental Skill level. If they are, Lohen gets a longer window of boosted Skill level. This means investing in your support characters' talents directly benefits Lohen's output.

All Six Constellations

ConstellationEffect
C1Triumph cap increases by 250%. Triumph generated by party members' damage also increases to 250% of the original while in Stratagem.
C2For 4s after using Piercing Frost or Burst in Stratagem, Lohen gains Blade of Purity. His next Normal or Charged Attack deals an additional hit of 300% ATK as Cryo AoE DMG and increases party Elemental Mastery by 125 for 8s. Triggers once every 4s.
C3Increases Elemental Skill talent level by 3.
C4Using Burst in Stratagem automatically fills Triumph to max. Entering Stratagem restores 15 Energy if not full; if Energy is already full, using Burst restores 15 Energy instead.
C5Increases Elemental Burst talent level by 3.
C6Piercing Frost and Burst in Stratagem no longer consume Triumph. Joy is immediately filled to max, and the next Piercing Frost extends Stratagem by 1.25s (once every 7s). All damage from these abilities gains +80% CRIT DMG.

C1 is a straightforward power spike, tripling the effective Triumph ceiling and generation rate. C4 eliminates the tension between spending Triumph on Piercing Frost versus the Burst by auto-filling Triumph before the Burst fires. C6 is transformative — removing Triumph consumption entirely means Lohen can chain Piercing Frost repeatedly without losing his damage bonus, while the +80% CRIT DMG pushes his ceiling dramatically higher.

Ascension and Talent Materials for Pre-Farming

If you want to have Lohen ready on day one, you can start collecting his materials now. His character ascension requires Cryo-specific gems and a new boss drop, while his talents use Mondstadt's Resistance book series.

Because Lohen is a main DPS, you'll likely want to prioritize his Elemental Skill talent first, since Piercing Frost is where most of his damage comes from. The Burst is secondary, and Normal Attack talent is the lowest priority unless you're running him at C2 or C6.

Team Composition and Playstyle

Lohen's kit doesn't lock him into a single team archetype. Freeze, Melt, and Hypercarry compositions all remain viable because his Triumph system simply rewards teammates who deal damage — regardless of the reaction type. That said, his Masterpiece of Jest passive specifically buffs ATK when Cryo-related reactions trigger, giving a slight edge to Freeze and Melt setups.

His design favors sub-DPS teammates who can deal large, infrequent hits rather than many small ticks. A teammate dealing a single instance of damage equal to or greater than 1000% of Lohen's Base ATK generates 20 Triumph, while weaker hits only contribute 1 point. Pairing Lohen with characters who have high off-field burst damage — rather than fast-ticking abilities — will maximize his Triumph generation and, by extension, his Piercing Frost and Burst damage.

Early speculation suggests Durin may be one of his strongest teammates, though the full picture will become clearer once final multipliers and team testing are available. There are also rumors that Lohen may be added to the Standard Banner rather than a limited-time event banner, but this has not been officially confirmed and will likely only be clarified during the Version 6.6 Special Program.

Everything described here comes from the Version 6.6 beta and remains subject to change before Lohen's official release. Multipliers, talent descriptions, and constellation effects can all shift during the development process, so treat the specific numbers as directional rather than final.
