What Fall’s Rest Shrine is and why it matters

Shrine Climbs are short, guided ascents marked by red torii gates that lead to shrines tucked into cliffsides and peaks. At the top, you perform a bow (swipe down on the PS5 touchpad) to complete the activity and claim a charm. Fall’s Rest is one of 13 Shrine Climbs in Ghost of Yotei and a smart early target because its reward, the Charm of Kanayago, increases metal and black powder pickups used for weapon and armor upgrades.

These climbs are never missable. Their starting gates appear on your map once you’re nearby, and each ascent typically takes only a few minutes.

Fall’s Rest Shrine location (Yotei Grasslands)

You’ll find Fall’s Rest in the southeastern corner of the Yotei Grasslands. Look for a line of red torii gates climbing a hillside; the approach is just northeast of Shirahige Falls. If you’re wandering the region’s lower right quadrant and see a path curving up from the valley, you’re close.

Detailed route to the shrine

  • Start at the torii gate foothill in the southeast of Yotei Grasslands and take the marked trail upward.
  • Follow the gates and wooden walkways as they wind along the rock face; stay on the main path rather than cutting across ledges.
  • Near the top, you’ll enter an area with a small pool of water.
  • The shrine sits to the left of that pool. Approach the altar and swipe down on the touchpad to bow and complete the climb.
Tip: If you ever lose the line of gates, backtrack to the last red gate you passed and scan for the next one up-trail. The correct route always connects gate to gate.

Reward and best time to do it

Fall’s Rest grants the Charm of Kanayago. The charm boosts your haul of metals and black powder while scavenging, speeding up early upgrade paths for blades and armor. Because it directly improves resource collection, it’s worth securing as soon as you have free roam in the Grasslands.

How Shrine Climbs work (controls, mapping, timing)

  • Start markers: Red torii gates; their start points show up on your map once you get close.
  • Completion: Interact by swiping down on the touchpad to bow at the shrine.
  • Duration: Expect roughly three minutes per climb under normal conditions.
  • Availability: None are missable; everything can be done in free roam after finishing the story.

Planning a full run for “Body, Mind, and Spirit”

Finishing all Shrine Climbs is part of the Body, Mind, and Spirit trophy, alongside Bamboo Strikes and Hot Springs. There are 13 total Shrine Climbs spread across the map:

  • Yotei Grasslands: Fall’s Rest, Blooming Ridge, Mount Yotei
  • Ishikari Plain: Sun’s Peak, Winding Tears, Azure Wind
  • Tokachi Range: Amber Respite, Faithful Leap, Risen Fog
  • Nayoro Wilds: Patient Frost
  • Teshio Ridge: Enduring Hold, Chilled Peak
  • Oshima Coast: Budding Grace

Completing all shrine climbs also unlocks the Golden Mask cosmetic.

Important note about Azure Wind Shrine

Azure Wind Shrine in Ishikari Plain is tied to the main tale The Oni. You’ll complete it during that mission. You won’t be able to return to that mission-only area afterward, but there aren’t any other collectible or trophy requirements in that space.

Knocking out Fall’s Rest early pays off for the rest of the playthrough. The resource boost from its charm compounds as you explore, making upgrades less grindy while you chip away at the remaining shrines for the trophy and the Golden Mask.
