Jigoku Fortress sits at the far north of Ishikari Plain, on the western coast of Yokai’s Nest. It’s marked in red on the map as a Yotei Six Camp, which means it’s locked down and staffed with archers who will fire if you approach the front gate. The way in isn’t obvious—until Shiro shows up.

Jigoku Fortress location (Ishikari Plain)

  • Region: Ishikari Plain
  • Sub‑area: Yokai’s Nest (northernmost part of the region)
  • Map cue: Western shoreline at the very top of Ishikari Plain

Reaching Ishikari Plain is part of the natural story route in Chapter 1. On arrival, ride north past the Rumoi River until Yokai’s Nest fills the compass.

How to unlock the “Shiro the Swindler” bounty

  • Prerequisite: Complete several bounties in Ishikari Plain (three is sufficient).
  • Pickup: Speak to Kojiro the Bounty Hunter at Ishikari Market (by the bounty board). He gives this job directly—there’s no poster to read.

Once the bounty appears, your target is at Jigoku Fortress. Fast travel toward Yokai’s Nest and head for the fortress’s front gate to set up the entry trigger.

How to enter Jigoku Fortress (hidden route with Shiro)

If you walk up to the gate, you’ll be warned off by gunfire. Don’t force the gate. Instead:

  • From the front gate, turn right (north) and follow the cliff a short distance to a small, empty campsite.
  • Inspect the straw mat on the ground, then the gunpowder nearby. This investigation triggers a cutscene—Shiro appears and leads the way.
  • Follow Shiro along the east side of the fortress to a cracked, destructible section of the wall.
  • Use the grappling hook in tandem with Shiro to pull the wall down.
Note: This section cannot be opened before meeting him.

With the wall collapsed, you have the only viable entry into Jigoku Fortress.

Clear the camp and duel the leader

Inside, your goal is to eliminate every enemy in the stronghold. Work through the courtyards and walkways until you reach the back of the fortress. The final beat is a one‑on‑one duel with the fortress leader—win it to fully liberate the site.

As a Yotei Six Camp, Jigoku Fortress is completed when all hostiles are dead and the duel is resolved. Town spaces refill with civilians afterward, and an Altar of Reflection becomes accessible in the area.

Rewards and the Sly Thief Mask

  • Coins: 1,500
  • Mask: Sly Thief Mask (a clear nod for collectors)

The mask unlocks upon finishing the bounty, alongside the Coin payout. Keep it in your vanity rotation if you’re chasing themed sets.

Altar of Reflection near Jigoku Fortress

There’s an Altar of Reflection tied to this camp at Yokai’s Nest. Look just north of Jigoku Fortress and along the cliff to the right of the stronghold.

  • Route: Use grappling points on the cliffside path; be ready to swing through tree branches to reach the altar.
  • Use: Bow at the altar to learn a Technique.
Tip: Yotei Six Camps consistently grant access to an Altar of Reflection when cleared, so they’re efficient stops if you’re building out Techniques while you liberate the map.
