Ghost of Yotei — The Five Teachings: unlock, climb, and beat Takezo
Ghost of YoteiEquip Takezo’s five charms, reach Mount Yotei’s summit, and win a freezing duel for cosmetic rewards and a trophy.

The Five Teachings is Takezo’s capstone mythic tale in Ghost of Yotei. It triggers after you finish Takezo the Unrivaled, then asks you to equip all five of his charms and meet him atop Mount Yotei for one last duel. The fight adds a cold mechanic that slowly reduces your maximum health, so preparation and clean defense matter more than raw aggression.
Quest requirements and objectives
- Complete Takezo the Unrivaled.
- Equip all five Takezo charms at the same time.
- Travel to the summit of Mount Yotei and wait at the campfire.
- Defeat Takezo the Unrivaled.

Takezo’s five charms you must equip
Charm | Effect |
---|---|
Takezo’s Charm of the Unrelenting Warrior | Increases damage when your health is low. |
Takezo’s Charm of Bold Deflection | Parries inflict a small amount of extra stagger. |
Takezo’s Charm of Renewed Determination | Grants a small amount of Spirit when you take damage. |
Takezo’s Charm of Bracing Victory | Defeating staggered enemies restores a small amount of health. |
Takezo’s Charm of the Stout Heart | Modestly boosts the potency of the Heal technique. |

How to reach the summit quickly
If you’ve already completed the Mount Yotei shrine climb, fast travel to the top and follow the wind to the campfire. Otherwise, take the Shrine Path on the western side of Yotei Grasslands and prepare for a long ascent with grapples, ledges, and narrow paths.

Start the encounter
At the mountaintop camp, make sure all five Takezo charms are equipped. Interact with the campfire to wait, then speak to Takezo and opt to duel. The fight begins immediately after a brief exchange.

Duel mechanics and a safe game plan
A cold debuff gradually freezes you during the encounter. Practically, your maximum health cap shrinks over time, but it won’t drop to zero on its own. This creates a soft time pressure: the longer the fight runs, the less room you have for mistakes.
- Prioritize defense. Dodge red-glint (unblockable) attacks and look to block or parry standard strings. Greed gets punished here.
- Reset often. If you eat a hit mid-string, roll out instead of trying to trade; Takezo’s combos can delete your remaining health cap quickly.
- Use quickfire tools sparingly to interrupt or create space, then return to disciplined parry-and-poke rhythm.
If you’re stuck, lowering the difficulty is an option and doesn’t impact trophy eligibility.

What changes at the mountaintop duel
Expect a faster tempo than the southern coast bout and more punishing follow-ups off any mistake. The frozen health cap is the difference-maker: your margin for error narrows the longer you stay in. Focus on:
- Recognizing the red-glint windups early and stepping off-line.
- Perfect parries on predictable openers to build stagger safely.
- Taking measured damage after parry windows instead of overextending.
Rewards you earn
Reward | What it is |
---|---|
Gilded Night (weapon kit) | Dual katana cosmetic variant. |
Gilded Dawn (weapon kit) | Dual katana cosmetic variant with a distinct color scheme. |
Straw Hat of the Unrivaled | Vanity gear inspired by Takezo. |
Unrivaled (trophy) | Unlocked upon defeating Takezo at the summit. |
Finishing The Five Teachings also resolves Takezo’s outstanding rematch thread tied to his earlier tale.

Fast recap
- Finish Takezo the Unrivaled, collect all five charms, and equip them simultaneously.
- Reach Mount Yotei’s summit (fast travel if you’ve done the shrine climb), rest at the campfire, and duel Takezo.
- Play defense-first, dodge red-glints, parry cleanly, and respect the shrinking health cap from the cold.
- Claim the Gilded Night and Gilded Dawn weapon kits, the Straw Hat of the Unrivaled, and the Unrivaled trophy.
Once Takezo falls, his storyline is complete and you’re free to pivot to the other mythic tales across Ezo. If you reached the peak before finishing the shrine climb, consider wrapping that too—its charm pairs well with several late-game builds.
