Wolf Dens are repeatable, combat-forward stops that expand Atsu’s wolf toolkit. Look for a low mound with a single tree and nearby bodies; investigate to summon the wolf, then ride after it to a hunter or raider camp. Clear the enemies, free the caged wolf, and you’ll earn a wolf Technique point toward new abilities. Dens surface on your map once you get close, and you can wrap up any you missed after finishing the story.

There are 10 Wolf Dens across Ezo: two each in Yotei Grasslands, Ishikari Plain, and Tokachi Range; two in Teshio Ridge; plus one in Nayoro Wilds and one on Oshima Coast.

Ghost of Yotei Wolf Dens (flow and rewards)

  • Trigger: At a den marker, examine the nearby corpses to call the wolf and start the pursuit.
  • Objective: Follow the wolf to a Trapper/Saito/Oni camp, defeat everyone, and open any wolf cages.
  • Rewards: A wolf Technique point each time, new wolf skills, and occasional shamisen songs; your bond with the wolf increases as you progress.
  • Notes: Standoffs are a fast way to thin numbers. Expect variant threats like buffing leaders, bo-hiya fire, shields, and disarming attacks depending on the region.

All Wolf Den locations (by region)

Region Wolf Den Where to start Encounter notes
Yotei Grasslands Green Hill South of Lake Shikotsu. Look for a lone tree on a rock along the lake’s eastern side. Small trapper camp. Initiate a Standoff to drop a few foes while the wolf tackles another; free the captive wolf to finish.
Yotei Grasslands Great Mountain North of the Sarubetsu River, west across the Nupur River from Yotei’s Shadow Inn. Free a second wolf at an empty camp; a Standoff follows when enemies arrive. Use the throwable spears scattered around to clean up.
Tokachi Range Hunter’s Watch Ohara Plains, south of Yubari Lake and northeast of Serpent’s Pass; den sits on a hill by a lone tree. Camp includes a Kumigashira who buffs allies with chants; remove him early with a well-placed arrow to stop the aura and simplify the fight.
Tokachi Range Howling Fields Just south of the Boar’s Eye Cave map label. Rescue three wolves at the camp. Expect a larger follow-up brawl with multiple wolves and enemies.
Ishikari Plain Dying Fire Near Nakagoya Spring, along the river northeast of Ishikari Market. Follow the wolf while dodging bo-hiya fire. Oni Raiders wield makeshift flamethrowers, shields, and reinforced spears; deploy quickfire tools (e.g., metsubushi, oni flame) and watch for yellow disarming attacks.
Ishikari Plain Old Wound On/along the Rumoi River in the Jigoku Fortress area (toward its south and west approaches). Wolf hunters bombard the den; clear them to draw out the wolf, then ride to the camp and eliminate the trappers.
Nayoro Wilds White Scars Where two branches of Kankan Creek meet, on the east bank of the central fork. Standard camp clear. Free the wolf to complete.
Teshio Ridge Cold Lake Along the western edge near Sarobetsu Lake, then head east into the mountain range; the den sits near a cliff. Climb to the den. Clear the camp and release the wolf to finish.
Teshio Ridge Biting Wind Northeast of the region, north of the Sentinel Forest; up on a ridge. Standard camp clear with a caged wolf. Free it after dealing with remaining enemies.
Oshima Coast Waterfall Far east of the region beyond the Saito Artillery Outpost; climb either side of the waterfall to reach the top. Final trapper camp for Wolf Dens. Free the wolf to claim the last Technique point.

Progress tracking and cleanup

  • Map visibility: Each den icon appears on your map when you draw near.

If you’re only hunting for the last few, ride the river systems and ridge lines listed above and watch for the telltale tree-on-a-mound silhouettes. Travelers on the road can also nudge you toward the nearest den if you’re coming up empty.
